Hey /g/, I need your opinion. Some time ago I saw somebody post about how they set up an old server for bitcoin farming in a starbucks and it ran for months without anybody touching it and I am thinking of doing the same thing. I would set up an used old server in a public space and let it just let it run with a "please dont touch" sign on it.

Did I get baited /g/ or would this actually work if I cheesed my way through everything. I am thinking of setting this up in at my local gym since you get free wifi and power wont be too hard to find.

Worth a shot, what is there to lose? A cheap server? I'd try it

That's fucking smart.

Going to do this as well.
>>
Make sure you put some Titan X's in your bitcoin farmer that you leave. That's the only way this will be worth it.

How do you deal with technologically retarded people?
Especially people that refuse to sit and learn 2 basic things, like how a new TV remote works?
Especially people that you know are not stupid in general, but when it comes to technological products, they become a shit throwing monkey?
Also, post cringe/anger inducing stories about such people.

I deal with them by doing the same tasks for them time and time again. It's quite frustrating having to "install" new devices for my parents when all it essentially means is inserting the never-changing account and mail server information for whatever e-mail program the device has pre-installed, and possibly downloading an alternative internet browser and possibly a pdf reader, office suite, Spotify and the like, which are all just a few clicks away and doable by illiterate babies.

Then again, I don't mind too much as it's not too frequent. Then again, I do mind when they do purchase their new devices, as they ring me up and demand I'll stop everything and rush for the train station to get there ASAP as these things can never be learned and only a master wizard of computer technology may be able to succeed in "installing" a new device, and it's essential it's done right this second.

Also it bogs my mind how some people have serious troubles opening the settings in a program and fiddle around to see if there's anything that could possibly fix their issue.

And it also bogs my mind how some people become terrified of computers, almost hysterical. They keep phoning me and telling how there was an error message on their screen, but they clicked it away and nothing happened. And I'm supposed to know what it was about since they forgot what it said, and I'm to blame for not having a clue what they're talking about.

Sometimes I feel some people just work on a totally different frame of mind when it comes to anything tech related.

I need a phone that doesn't do anything but make/take calls and ~possibly~ text. Without going into why, just take your best guess out of any of the reasons someone might want this and just go with that. Does anyone know where I might find such a device that will still work?

I'm trying to do some work with lubuntu + libreoffice, just text+images but I'm doing it in a p4 and after adding 3 photos its broken as fuck and I need to use more than 200

I'm thinking about installing XP + pirated office but I don't know if it will get better

Which word version can properly manage this shit?

I just need a text processor that let me throw images on it/resize them and export as PDF

Is LibreOffice breaking just because of low memory/processor power?

High bit depth for imagery is like high bit depth for audio. Only really important when processing, and avoiding banding when using high levels of compression.

So you give some shop owner your credit card info and that's literally all he or anyone else needs to take your money.
At best you can file a complaint to your bank after that, if you happen to notice some money missing.

How is this not absolutely retarded security-wise and why is it still a thing in [current year]?

You don't check your billing statements? What's wrong with you?
>at best you can
And that's a problem why, exactly? Oh, you want it to be automated? Good thing it is! The vast majority of CC fraud is detected by automated systems and blocked before it even hits your account. The small number of cases that slip through, well, that's why you read your statement. You *do* read your statement, don't you?

Also with modern chip card systems, the "credit card info" never actually stays with the merchant, but that's more to let the banks foist the fraud losses off to someone else, it has nothing to do with you, the customer.

I bought a 4k ultra HD premium t.v. and I want to start gathering some 4k HDR content to watch on it.

Somebody has told me that the smart software in the t.v. can play 4k HDR content just fine, if you hook it up from a external HDD.

Is there anything I should look out for when getting an external HDD for this purpouse?

What kind of HDD would I need to correctly play 4k hdr content on my t.v.?
