Arch Linux is so good it can't even remain stable.
>>
Eek out performance
>>
could be because arch doesn't come with a desktop environment and such and you don't really need one to program

or a similar reason but they want to use a different de/wm, like i3 maybe

Why do so many people on XFCE use a bottom panel with applications? What's the point? It just seems messy and pointless, only to immediately look aesthetic or something

You have your window list in your panel, the second panel acts as nothing more than a intrusive launcher, why not just use a start menu or application launcher via keyboard?

I just don't really understand the appeal

It's the default unless your distro configures it differently.
Most people just don't care enough to change it.

Post your component list, rate other anons', and ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

Assemble your parts list; built-in price comparisons by vendor and a compatibility filter.

Have a budget, but don't know where to start? This will recommend you a parts list based on price.

I'm actually very tempted to get the Samsung Chromebook plus. How big is the performance difference between the core m3 on other chromebooks/the pro and the ARM one in the plus? Is there more app compatibility with Android apps on the ARM based chromebooks?

no, it's a meme like SSD's
>>
I literally tried it once. I soon realized it's basically "Linux from Scratch" with minorly fewer steps. Good thing I knew about Debian linux before because I fear some people literally fall into the meme.

Arch is no much different, only slightly faster, doesn't compile.

Practically "too lazy to make a distro, the users make it, see how much freedum I spread?"

Might as well do LFS Linux if you are that bored.

what did (((/g/))) mean by this?

https://www.overclock3d.net/news/cpu_mainboard/european_pricing_for_amd_s_ryzen_8-core_cpus_has_been_leaked/1

>This new leak prices the 4GHz 8-core R7 1800X at €599.99, which includes tax, with the R7 1700X being priced at €469.99 and their R7 1700 being priced at €349, which is pricing that is highly competitive with Intel's current offerings.
>Right now Intel's 8-core 16-thread i7 6900K costs €1109 and their 4-core 8-thread i7 7700K costs €360 in the EU.

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).

----
If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™

Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", ultraportable
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.
