Replacing thermal paste on laptops and risking warrantly loss?
I have seen many youtubers complaining about bad thermal paste on laptops that cause bad cpu and gpu temperatures on Laptops

If you take good care of your laptop and are reasonably tech-savvy you don't need the warranty anyway. So go repaste your laptop.
>>
>>58859506
I had to use the warranty a few times, every time because of hardware failure

bitching about doing basic maintenance after 3 years?

I bet this cuck rides public transportation.

Hey /g/! I have a chance to purchase one of these bad boys.

I have always wanted to try Gentoo and from first impressions I like i3.

Other good distros, wms, or upgrades I should make to it?

lubuntu or antergos with xfce
>>
>>58859697
I quite like window managers though as opposed to desktop environments. They work better when your workflow is keyboard based and, with a laptop without a track pad, the more keyboard shortcuts the better.

I was initially considering a Ubuntu based distro but after some though I figured that it couldn't hurt to try Gentoo or Arch, especially since the system is quite resource constrained.

Later on though I plan on getting an SSD and 4GB RAM for it.
>>
>>58860047
You could always try building your system with ulibc or musl. Smaller file size will help with performance somewhat, especially on a hdd. If you forgo glibc entirely, it isolates you from a lot of malware. Not that its terribly common on linux, but its on the table.

What is your favorite code editor for web dev and why?

> Visual Studio Code because it's faster than Atom and more complete than Sublime Text for what i'm doing (mostly angular2)
34 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
I would probably still use Visual Studio. But I don't do much web unless I have to and in that case I might even use some of those automatic web builders (they are insanely automatic and advanced nowadays).

I liked Brackets though to be honest. Text-based but it also has a nice live-preview system. It opens up a Chrome that dynamically changes.

Though at the end of the day if I did seriously I would go with something more automatic. It's current year, I don't have time to VIM.
>>
>>58859250
I'm still surprised how competent VS Code is when Atom is trash. Now they just need to make a non-shitty C/C++ compiler because god damn its optimization is terrible.

Because the transistor can't be shrinked that easily anymore. CPU's are max 1% faster per one year. GPUs can only give the delusion of faster advancements since they are parallelized at all times so they can only enlarge the transistor count, but at a higher cost.
>>
>>58858766
I think you're mistaken here. 99.99% of /g/'s population has no respect or regard for old technology. They all gravitate towards newer stuff.

I have no motivation in learning complex algorithms, paradigms and the sorts. most of my cs colleagues are really average. I get most of my dominance instinct satisfied by playing online vidyia and even working out. But knowing I'll probably work for a company whose product i probably wont even believe in puts me down. Low motivation. Whats you're narrative that you lie to yourself to get by? And im not pondering to kys myself. Not yet at least

>>
>Whats you're native that you lie to yourself to get by?
That I'll eventually get a job at either AYYMD, Inlel, or noVideo. I hated algorithms, but I loved my hardware related courses. Get in on this shit, OP. It's not too hard and there's a growing need for it, as comp engineers grow old and all college kids are Python and JS niggers.
>>
I just don't think about it anymore. There's no point in doing so. If I keep myself busy, it keeps the ennui and inevitable gloom away.

I long for the day when I can get a proper lobotomy.
