By crashing a plane with no survivors.
I always have to realize that Java is still the best all around language. You can use it to literally anything other than making games. Yes, you will have a big end product, possibly with a packaged JRE, so your program is minimum ~170-200MB, not as sexy as a 1-2MB executable made with C, but come on, no one cares if it works in the end (also note that with Java9 this will improve significantly). The performance is also - not looking at start-up times - comparable to C. In the end, you get a product that runs almost everywhere (if you dont start doing stupid shit). Also, for OOP hating fags, you don't have to follow all that bullshit some Java library does, you can write beautiful code in Java without it being too bloated.
>>59965816
Most of the Java hate is probably from people working on ancient enterprise code. I'm sure there's a way to write beautiful Java, but I've never seen it in the wild.
>>59965816
>170-200mb compared to 1-2mb, says don't care
Please kill yourself
>>59965838
Yes, some old libraries and code I had to maintain also made me puke, but people should just realize that it is not the case anymore. With Java8 streams your code looks sexy again.
>>59965853
Try doing a cross platform program in C++ and compare the results. Also fags here usually like Python, but you have to package the Python runtime too and you use a language that much slower than Java.

Currently worthwhile CPUs:
>G4560 for budget builds (<$500) unless G4620/i3-6100 is heavily discounted
>i5 aren't worthwhile. Get Ryzen 5, drop down to G4560, or up to Ryzen 7
>No R5 1400 unless discounted
>i7-6700k is good but pricey. If over budget: consider locked 7700; not chasing 4.8Ghz+ capable when you weren't gonna overclock, or get R5
>Cheap Z270 board is still good for faster memory in games w/ locked 7700, but aren't for overclocking (VRMs suck)
>R7/Xeon for compute/multitask/mixed use
Currently worthwhile GFX cards:
>RX470 , RX480, 1070, 1080, 1080TI
>1060 is worth considering over a 480 if same/cheaper in your country, or you just play games it's better on for the price. 1050Ti is for mITX builds
>470 is usually all you need for 1080p. Look for them on sale ~$130 or less.
>Nvidia GPU + Ryzen has issues in many games atm
>Budget builds: consider integrated graphics over a card weaker than RX470, unless price/performance is better (discounted/used)
>May for Vega
General:
>No brand/model loyalty. Parametric filters on pcpartpicker can help
>Consider larger SSD-only for what you budget SSD+HDD combined. Add HDD later once needed
>NVMe aren't worth it just for faster OS boot. They're primarily for productivity as a scratch disk
>Save money w/ mATX case/mobo, and if patient by purchasing your parts individually in flash sales
Just Waitâ„¢ for RX 585x2
>7700K is better for gaming right now
>BUT RYZEN HAS MORE CORES! IT'S FUTUREPROOF! JUST WAIT FOR MULTICORE OPTIMIZATION IN FEW YEARS!

>SO WHAT?! ARE YOU GONNA PLAY NOW OR WHAT?!
>so I guess I'll update my card to new 2070 Volta
>LOL NVIDIAKEK ENJOY YOUR UPGRADE EVERY YEAR

The model number I have is AX7970 3GBD5-2DHV3 from Powercolor. At stock voltage of 1.175v, I got 1070/1425 though I haven't messed with the memory much yet. I currently have at 1105/1425 @ 1.219v. The guy I bought it from was selling it since he upgraded to an RX 480.

I just bought a ThinkPad T420, which I have read has pretty great macOS support. Should I install macOS on it or Arch Linux? Pricing of the i3/i5 line up just needs an improvement and a REAL IPC improvement while we're at it.
Ryzen 5 was never meant to beat an unlocked i5 in a direct apples to apples comparison in games or tasks that are heavily single threaded or don't quite make use of more than 4 cores. Any one who tries to claim otherwise is a complete retard because that much should've been obvious. But see the thing is, AMD never had to beat Intel in the IPC game because as long as AMD comes close enough at a considerably lower price, that's MORE than enough to shift people to buy from Intel to AMD.
Take a look at the i7-6900K vs the R7 1800X. The i7-6900K is a bit better in some applications and trades blows with the R7 1800X in other cases. But that minuscule difference isn't worth $500. That's where AMD is beating Intel. MOST people don't need the Quad Channel memory support or the 40 PCI-Express lanes but it's still certainly a selling point. For those people who don't care about the cost, the choice here is obvious.
That being said, Ryzen 5 is being targeted at people who do other things with their desktops. Maybe in the future 6/8 Core CPU's will be the gold standard in gaming applications, but the way I see it we're still wee bit far way from that. The way I see it, Ryzen 5 is a literally a gift from the Gods to the lower end budget streamers who don't have a garage full of cash to dump into their new gaming rig. To me that's the real purpose of Ryzen 5.
While people who purely game and don't edit pictures/videos/music or stream aren't going to be affected by the extra cores/threads on Ryzen 5 CPU's, but to those who DO it could be the difference between light and day.
Thanks for asking. Of course I bought Ryzen 1600, the deal is too sweet. I will upgrade to nextgen Ryzen 7 years later when software will catch up to the core count.
>>59965240
Bought a 1700X for the higher rated TDP envelope. I game a bit, but mostly bought it for work. I do lots of computationally intensive simulations with massive data sets. The extra threads aren't very helpful for gaming performance, but they cut down my run times to about a third of what they were. Once Naples comes out and this shit makes it to server farms, hot damn.
