Why has DC been traditionally successful at creating legacy characters, while Marvel fucking stinks at it?
I say this as a Marvel fan, I notice all the legacy characters in DC, none seem forced or out of place and all seem to have their fanbases..
Meanwhile, I only want Marvel to fucking stop it, and so do most other people I know
DC treats their heroes as gods among men.
Marvel treats their heroes like flawed people doing what they can to help others.
Normal people don't pass the torch, they take up the cause, but with their own identity. Lebron James became Lebron James, not Micheal Jordan II. Spider-Man in the MCU is actually a good example of how a legacy character would work because he's his own character, but wears colors similar to the heroes who inspired hims (Blue for Captain America and Red for Iron Man). We all know that's not why his outfit has those colors, but it seems natural enough not to notice.
Because most of DC's legacy characters have been around for decades now. The initial fan outrage over them has died down, and now heroes like Kyle Rayner and Wally West are old enough to have nostalgic fans of their own.
Trust me, a lot of people fucking HATED DC's legacy heroes when they were first around.

Because DC invented legacy heroes. They were doing them before Marvel even published Fantastic Four #1. It's an essential part of the company's mythology.
That's not to say that Marvel can't do them too, but it feels less natural to their setting. There are some excellent legacy characters at Marvel right now (Kamala Khan and Jane Foster are probably the two best written ones) but there are also ones who just feel like they're jumping on a bandwagon and have nothing to offer (looking at you, Riri.)
Is there any chance that this will actually be good?

Depends if they can go more than 3 pages without some variation of "as a gay mutant".
Unlikely

She literally does
Is it weird that all three animated versions of this character have American accents?
>>91425497
Is it weird that every animated version of Emma Frost has an English accent?
>>91425497
Not really, she was a parody of 'cute spunky girl-next-door' characters like Kitty Pryde. Giving her a foreign accent would have defeated the purpose.
>>91425527
Would you prefer her with a Boston accent?
Could you imagine if he talked like this in the 2003 cartoon?

Goddamn, all these acronyms. Let's have Agents of F.U.C.K.

as soon as they let Ewing write a magic book, probably

I think they got overtaken by STAKE which had jurisdiction over "Monsters" in general
Look, the bottom line is what Made Carol Danvers Sell, Hell any comic book character, is that she possessed what my college Econ. teacher called "Sex, Drugs, and Rock N Roll; and I don't mean laying on their back I mean having an actual personality.
For example:
Former Carol-
Sex- She was a physically attractive person whose allure not only distracted the villain but also caught the attention of the predominantly male comic reader.
Drugs- With her demon in a bottle, readers could gain some sort of bond to her, especially with those struggling with their own form of addiction.
Rock N Roll- While she was a hard as nails airman, she also had a heart of gold that understood the needs of others and when she did something wrong, she often carried that weight in some way.
The new Carol has lost those traits:
New Carol:
Sex- Now looks like a bulldyke with a shitty haircut that is taking too many sex change pills
Drugs- With her alcoholism simply swept under the rug, the faults she had that attracted readers are gone therefore making her look to immaculate.
Rock N Roll- Her compassion for humanity has now been replaced with a heart darker than a black hole, willing to minority report anyone with a hint of dissent. Combine this with a populace too stupid or too scared to call her out on her bull. it's a recipe for disaster.
>Drugs- With her alcoholism simply swept under the rug, the faults she had that attracted readers are gone therefore making her look to immaculate.

I feel like generally you're on to something, but these two points contradict each other. It's more that the narrative isn't really diving into this well. Because the descent into this kind of colder personality could be a good story, but they skipped over the character development to turn her into a different person.

her alcoholism got resolved like...five issues after it was introduced. decades ago.
her real addiction is war. and hey, we're still seeing the fallout of the last war she started
>>91424988
>they skipped over the character development to turn her into a different person.
it happened in Reed's Ms. Marvel.

Can't wait for Bendis to start writing Thor once Thor Ragnarok is release.
I honestly do kind of want to see that, just for the shitstorm. How fast do you think he'd have Mjolnir back with he-Thor? How angry would people be?
>>91424346
I still can't believe his ego was so big to think that his writing on GOTG had anything to do with the jump in sales, while the movie was announced/coming out at the same time. So yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see him here.
Really don't know who should write Thor next.
Pak maybe, his Hulk was great.
Aaron felt like such a utter godsend with butcher/bomb arc and has become such a fucking missed opportunity & I say that as someone who actually likes the Fem Thor stuff more then not.
I don't understand?

Why is Jack's cum blue?
>The X-Men have so many psychics on board with them
>The Guardians of the Galaxy had at least 3 psychics with them
Are the Avengers too poor to afford Psychic help like they use to or something?
>>91424214
The Avengers have had team psychics in the past, they remember that their powers are "useless under these conditions" almost all the time, and unless they can throw zaps or telekinesis they are a waste of time and space.
And since the Avengers often have a fews guys who can bench press Manhattan, TK girl is rather redundant as well.
By not having any current psychics, they don't have to deal with any "possessed by my evil Id/turned my teamate gay" bullshit either.
>>91424214
Look at your image. The Avengers used to have 2 out of those 3 very psychics. But their benefits package sucks so they keep losing them to the GotG.
>>91424293
Both of them were useless trouble-magnets.
They are better off giving their slot to a Hawkguy or even a legacy character.
Discuss.

What's /co/'s opinion on Rick Veitch? I really like his Aquaman run, Brat Pack, and Greyshirt: Indigo Sunset but other than that I'm not really familiar with his work.
You should check out his run as writer on Swamp Thing, he takes over the issue after Moore leaves doing writing and pencils
>>91423731
>Brat Pack
It's like Kingdom Come: it's great and you should never look for any of the sequel material because it's depressingly mediocre in comparison. Any and all of his Swamp Thing work (iirc he started as artist while Moore was still writing).
He's sorely underappreciated.
>>91423889
I didn't even know there was a sequel but thanks for the warning. And I'll definitely check out his Swamp Thing run.
