It's canon that she fakes an English accent. Which I think is just writers not being able to discern the difference between English Received Pronunciation they teach aristocracy in England from Mid-Atlantic accents they teach at the wealthy in finishing schools (Think Kathryn Hepburn and other American actresses from the 40s-60s that have an accent literally no one uses in real life). The accent is considered genteel and the proper way to speak for women of status.
