One time I was camping way out in the countryside and me and my family were hiking through some flat land and we get a gorgeous view of the night sky. A few moments later my father pointed out a strange light that was approaching our area at an alarming speed, so we quickly left the site. Later that night I witnessed some horrifying dreams that I can barely recollect. Well if you're too rigid a thinker to use a search engine and separate nonsense from plausible information then I suppose what I would suggest is to look up folklore for different cultures.
If you want you can start with japan, I can't find my book on their creatures at the moment but they have these fun little demons that are supposedly responsible not only for many deaths but also advancements. Legends tells that a Japanese doctor was taught surgery from one of these demons in exchange for a favor.
Then read folklore on other cultures and see if you can find commonalities. Think "The hero with 1000 faces" or the overwhelming similarities between the stories in religions both ancient and modern.
Take these common stories and traits and trace back the stories as far as you can. When you get to the oldest version of the story you might get to the root of a demon's identity.
Keep in mind if you want to expand the subject of demonology at all you should read, read, read every story and myth you possibly can. Seek more commonalities and find them where others missed or didn't bother looking.
I think that's a good start.

So this is a story my mom told me that her grandpa told her happened to him. So my great-grandpa was walking home from a mill that he worked at, and it was late at night, he was walking alone and ran to a dog that looked like a german shepard but it had a human face, and apparently it spoke to him, no idea what it said though. So my great-grandpa noped the fuck out of there and ran the rest of the way home. No idea whether to believe it or not but he wasnt the kinda person who would lie. So /x/ any idea what the fuck my great-grandpa saw? (Also have some other paranormal stories my mom and dad have told me about there own lives if anyones interested)
