I was banned for playing on the plane to hawaii. Was just a soft ban though had ended by the time I was settled in the hotel. I think poke bank will let transfer pokemon from gen 1, 5, or 6, so I think you'll be fine. But gen is really not as bad as everyone says, it's not my favourite but I enjoyed it. Alot of my favourite pokemon are from gen 6, and it's not that really easy if you turn the exp share off.
