in all seriousness, i think the special/physical thing introduces some complexity to the game. taking that away would be boring
i'm interested in imagining what pokemon would be like now without the physical/special split

I was thinking about something similar earlier but I wasn't going to post it because I'll get jumped on for simply thinking about it.

The physical/special split was a good idea, but it should have been physical/special attack only, not defense/special defense.

As it is there are too many stats. It takes fucking ages to IV breed something unless you already have a significant amount of prep work already set up. Even with guaranteed 3 IV legendaries that's only half of your stats that are guaranteed viable. The fact that Hyper Training is a thing is proof that there's a problem in this area.

Now, if stats were

Things could run more smoothly. Simply make Defence apply to all incoming moves, whether physical or special. This way walls like Steelix and Aggron aren't utterly useless trash anymore because they don't have a glaring weakpoint where they ran out of BST to give them.

I know it sounds stupid and crazy, but just entertain the thought for a second. It only seems so obvious and set in stone because it's been that way for so long, but it would work. Think about your own personality; what would your dominant stat be? Most people would think Attack or Defence, or even Speed. Literally no one would go "Special Defense". What trait does it even imply? Calmness? Robustness? It's such a non-sequitur.

as a non-competitive player and casual fan who grew up with the first two gens and hasn't played through any of the gens inbetween, i absolutely love sun and moon - it's basically everything i wished pokemon would be in the future when i was a kid

sure i think some things can be improved but i had (and am still having) a fantastic time and alola is by far my favorite region and i love the new mons and forms

i understand long time players are upset because of competitive buffs and all that but it made me fall in love with pokemon again and that makes it amazing to me

I started with Red back when Pokemania was going crazy but my favorite's still Hoenn even if ORAS was bad.

ORAS' issues aren't really related to the region though, they're more because of how fucking stupid gen 6 in general was.

The only objective flaw I think is that the teams are kind of retarded but that's present in most games anyway. The most down to earth villains are Team Rocket and even then it's just a bunch of mooks following Giovanni.
