It's alright. I don't know why it got so much hate, it's actually a decent adaptation of the 1995 movie.
>>
>>84954959
Just finished watching it, it was even worse than I expected. Absolute travesty, it didn't deserve to (badly) copy the iconic scenes from the original.
>>
the first half is great and then it devolves in to a cringe fest.

The movie S-U-C-K-S. Not exaggerating one bit. Everything feels so generic, CGI is so bad it almost feels like watching video game cut-scenes during the action sequences, there is nothing really going on despite the fact that Peter wants to convince Tony that he is worthy to be an Avenger (childish all the way- what a hero!). Emotionally empty movie with silly jokes and Easter eggs, bad- indifferent cinematography, bad performances from everyone (Holland is NOT Peter Parker, Keaton did his Beatlejuice mannerisms once again, Marisa Tomei cute as always but miscast, the rest of the cast either underdeveloped or amateur at best). This movie is just suits and tech. I could go on bashing it forever not only for not being loyal to Spiderman comics but also for being more of a TV show rather than a movie. Forgot to mention that there is a lot of stupidity throughout the movie for instance no physics in there (plus more but I'd have to go frame by frame to discuss those).
Never before in my life have I been so baffled from the critics' and audience's consensus. 93% on rotten tomatoes??? WTF! We deserve junk like that then. Since you like talking movie morals why don't you all take a minute to think about this: If the cinema is going downhill maybe YOU are responsible too (since you like garbage like Spiderman Homecoming)

I really hate that these movies look so bland. There is no style to any of them.

And I agree, Spider-Man trying to impress Tony Stark is a terrible narrative thrust. I'm fine with downsizing the stakes, having a generic villain trying to blow up the planet for dubiously explained reasons is boring as sin, but you still need SOMETHING at stake in order for a movie to have gravity. If Spider-Man had failed in this movie, what would be the consequence? Tony Stark would have lost one of his 12 trillion suits? Thor would need to find a new magic belt? There's nothing I care about less than that.

Look at the train sequence in Spider-Man 2. If Peter failed, would the world have been destroyed? No, but the scene still had an impact because SOMETHING was at stake. Peter wanted to save the lives of the people on the train. If he failed, there would be a tangible consequence, and he was willing to nearly rip himself in half and give up his secret identity to save these people. It was an act of heroic sacrifice. This movie had none of that. The Staten Island Ferry scene was a direct callback to that scene, and it was fucking awful. The tension was undermined by MORE POINTLESS jokes, and there was no actual danger. It didn't feel like a kid risking his life for strangers because it was the right thing to do, it felt like a kid trying and failing to impress his favorite teacher. It was fucking garbage and it looked like a video game.

It had select strong moments. I liked the John Hughes inspired direction (Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, The Breakfast Club), Holland did the wall-crawler justice, and Keaton's Vulture is up there with Dafoe, Molina, and Church's villains. However, it was held back by lackluster fight sequences (worst in a live-action Spidey flick to date), a generic score, and not fully committing to its vision. On the latter point, Homecoming felt like it was struggling between being its own thing and being a MCU flick. Disney really needs to start letting directors put their own spend on these films. With all the money they've made and goodwill they've built up, surely they can afford to take a few risks. GotG paid off well.

First off. I saw this last night at a special thursday showing, and I'm not lying, probably 50 or more percent of the people in the theatre were seniors. Me and my girlfriend are 23 and we had an old couple in front of us and on both sides of us and it smelled like old people.

Second off, people were checking their phones 70 minutes in. It was distracting. The old man sitting beside me fell asleep and I knew when he fell asleep because his breathing changed from quiet to slow and heavy and the old lady in front kept turning around to see who was making so much noise.

Third off, when the movie ended, only 1 group of nerdy highschoolers awkwardly clapped. I felt so embarrassed for them, myself, and everyone around me. They started off clapping so confidently, like they thought they could get everyone else to clap too. Then the old lady on the other side of me was about to start clapping but when she saw no one else was joining along with them she changed her mind. Everyone left the theatre in dead silence.
