I watched it four times in cinemas.
The first two times were just myself in Japanese without subtitles (I am fluent in Japanese so I knew what they were saying) when I was in Japan.
The third and fourth times were here in the US with my girlfriend. We watched the subtitled version first then we watched the English dub.
My second time was even in IMAX.

We plan on going to the UK and also take her to a movie date watching a limited IMAX screening in the UK, even if we already saw it multiple times, and because the UK screenings have English subtitles and a dubbed version, and she doesn't understand Japanese.

And speaking of IMAX, Your Name. is the first 2D animated film that wasn't a re-release (so the Special Extended Editions of Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King don't count) to be shown in IMAX since Treasure Planet back in 2002.

Your Name. looked beautiful and amazing in IMAX, and the sound was much better than in regular cinemas.
Too bad it was only in IMAX Digital and IMAX laser projectors, would've loved a 70mm screening of this.
This is probably why I thought Treasure Planet looked more beautiful than Your Name., at least in IMAX, among other things.
For starters. Treasure Planet was actually in 70mm rather than IMAX Digital, and it was one of my first IMAX movies, the way they blended 2D and 3D animation together was really great and the hand-drawn animation by Disney is god-tier, as usual.
Don't get me wrong, I loved how Your Name. looked in IMAX, I just thought that Treasure Planet looked even better.

It would be really amazing for her to watch Your Name. in IMAX, especially since the last time we watched a 2D animated film in IMAX together was Treasure Planet which was also our first movie date in general back when we were 14.
And we thought that it would be a great call back to our first movie date which was also a 2D animated film in IMAX.

We really loved Treasure Planet, by the way, and it is one of our favorite animated Disney films

I really liked how all of the characters were shown to have real flaws, but the lol so random party girl was actually the most level headed out of all of them in how she confronted her problems. She changed her entire life for Holden who then practically dumped her because he couldn't see things from an alternative point of view (which admittedly would be a bit of a blow to any mans pride). Alyssa didn't tell Holden about her past, but I mean fuck, who brings that up during the honeymoon stage? Women's promiscuity seems to be present in a few of Smith's films but he doesn't really do Alyssa justice during her explanatory scene. Even Silent Bob's monologue kind of just dances around the fact that men need to feel like they are the pioneers of a girls sexuality and even though it's not a correct feeling it's inevitable. I think ultimately Holden acted like a juvenile and I can understand why but that is supposed to be his perfect girl, the love of his life, and first speed bump that comes up, he flies off the handle. He was selfish, Alyssa gave away plenty to be with him.

Banky was just your asshole immature friend, everybody has that guy you will hang out with but don't really invite to parties because he's a bit autistic. And you're right, that ending nearly ruins the movie for me.

I feel as though the plot could have gone on exactly as normal if that weird "intervention" scene was just completely edited out. No extra dialogue or anything. Just Bank and Holden fighting, and then running into Alyssa again at the end.

Actually they could use the extra time to explore what Holden and Alyssa go through after they break up, I feel like the build up was far more heavily weighted than the fall out. That would also make the ambiguous ending all the more sweet IMO. So close to being a phenomenal film, but I still love it for what it is. Smith used to be able to turn his hand so well to exposition and monologues but not in a jarring way.
