I am a student who studies at the TU in Delft, Netherlands. I want to study nuclear physics or what it is called. But I can't ask anyone what bachelor I need for it. Which studies will provide a way to nuclear science?

>Applied Physics specialisation Nuclear Science and Engineering
>The principle objective of the Nuclear Science and Engineering specialization is to meet the growing demand for qualified nuclear scientists and engineers. The field of nuclear science and engineering is widespread and multidisciplinary. The NSE programme can be taken within both the Applied Physics and the Chemical Engineering Master’s Programme. The programme may focus on either health or energy.

>Master of Science Applied Physics
>The master's degree programme is automatically accessible to TU Delft students after completion of their bachelor's degree in Applied Physics.
Students holding a BSc degree in Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Molecular Science and Technology can be admitted, but will be required to take additional courses in what is called a bridging programme. This may be a standard programme or it may be tailored to your specific situation. This also applies to TU Delft students who have done a minor in physics. Contact the academic counsellor of Applied Physics.

>Master of Science Chemical Engineering
>BSc graduates in Chemical Engineering or related field of science are invited to apply for admission.

Amateur game dev here,
How difficult would it be to create a simple model of the solar system ? I've only taken pre-calculus so far, but I did learn conic sections. I've been looking at Kepler's law of planetary motion, and I kind of understand the math, but I'm not quite sure how to implement it programmatically. Please share your precious knowledge with me.

depends how simple you want it to be
>>
You need to solve a system of differential equations with initial conditions from the planets. You don't need more than Kepler's laws.
>>
Look up N-body simulation. But it really depends on how complex you want it,

Nasa finally weighed in on the subject:

http://www.nasa.gov/feature/jpl/strange-star-likely-swarmed-by-comets

>A star called KIC 8462852 has been in the news recently for unexplained and bizarre behavior. NASA's Kepler mission had monitored the star for four years, observing two unusual incidents, in 2011 and 2013, when the star's light dimmed in dramatic, never-before-seen ways. Something had passed in front of the star and blocked its light, but what?

>Scientists first reported the findings in September, suggesting a family of comets as the most likely explanation. Other cited causes included fragments of planets and asteroids.

>A new study using data from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope addresses the mystery, finding more evidence for the scenario involving a swarm of comets. The study, led by Massimo Marengo of Iowa State University, Ames, is accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journal Letters.

So since everyone calmed down with the 24/7 aliums shitposting, can we actually talk about how weird this star is? You guys think it's comets?

What else. Spaceships wouldn't block enough light for us to be able to discern the differences if they've achieved lightspeed travel.

Comets/Asteroids or orbiting planets is my guess.

I read an article about a megastructure being a potential cause. Can't remember the civilization tiers but isn't a tier 3 civilization capable of using the sun as direct energy? A massive structure near the sun would likely suffice. Or a massive habitable tech planet.

Alien technology could be anything. Assuming they're advanced they could have gathered enough resources to "build" their own planet.
>>
>>7680788
Granted that may be true, they're all speculations. Anything and everything can be true outside of earth.

So what's wrong with treating the number line as a big circle with infinity opposite zero where passing either switches parity?

If you mean using it in replacement of the ordinary number line: you cannot possibly set a scale. All numbers will be infinitely close to 0 and the number circle becomes useless.

Why is the core of the Earth only 10,000 degrees?

That doesn't even seem that hot.

That's like 5 times hotter than a pottery kiln.

They say the core warms the earth, but that shit doesn't warm anything. It still freezes up here on the crust at night and in the winter.

Okay /sci/, say I somehow had a very large vat of elemental oxygen, and a very large vat of elemental hydrogen that are the exact same size. Now, I attach both of these canisters to a completely empty vacuum chamber and I start releasing the elemental hydrogen and oxygen into the chamber. What happens then? What things form, if they form at all?

>>

Oxygen is 16 times more in mass then Hydrogen with 8 protons and 8 nuetrons to 1 proton in Hydrogen. So the ratio of mass to be the same, you need 16 parts more hydrogen than oxygen to have the same amount by mass.
If provided an ignition source, a rapid oxidization would occur leaving you with with water and some left over H2.

Believing in the big bang is no different than believing in god, the theory even comes from the catholic church trying to rationalize god. It probably didn't happen and we don't really know what did.

I'm still having trouble wrapping my head around the idea of time being an illusion. Like, I think I get the basic concept of it, but I don't understand as much of it as i'd like.

Can anyone like, put it in simple terms for me? I have an exam coming up.

Probably the most simple thing i can think of is on an atomic level. Its just a bunch of shit floating around and combining. If molecules in suddenly did the exact opposite and bonded/unbonded "perpendicularly" I guess you could say, would time be reversed? Time does not really exist when you look at it abioticly.
>>
>>7679974
This still debatable it may not be an illusion at all

yes, becase the purpose of evolutoin is survival and evolution would not be possile in a static organism. enviornments change, and so the organism needs ot be able to changed with the anviornemnt. thus evolition serves an eviloutionary purpose

Why do people only care about how much money is to be made when deciding a STEM major? No, seriously. I hear people all the time asking whether to pick one or another, with one being something they actually enjoy and the other paying more.

Shouldn't it be obvious? So long as you're not a complete financial dunce it shouldn't matter if another field pays more than the one you're good at and like. You're going to make enough money to take care of yourself and a hypothetical family regardless. Furthermore, you'll be too busy doing cool shit that's fulfilling and useful to be worrying about how to blow your money anyway.

Even poorfag artists have these keks beat.

Yes, I'm waving my e-cock when I haven't even started school yet. I just decided this last week. I'm just annoyed when people are more interested in money than doing something useful and enjoyable to them.
>>
>>7679863
they probably don't exactly have the right mindset to be thinking about money when they pick out their stem major. most likely immature kids that just want money and see nice cars and big houses

now after they get their degree, then they realize that there's bills and rent to pay, money to save up for a down payment, IRA and such.
