Non-mathematician here. Topology sounds pretty cool. What do I need to learn to study topology on my own?
Have only had calculus.
Picture unrelated.
Basic set theory.

graph theory, algebra, and mathematical logic. after that you can get into topology, and eventually manifolds.
Introductory topology book.
how to prepare for maths and physics ?
how much do i have to study everyday?
how do i revise and memorize all the formulas?
how do i divide my time?
I used to be good in maths and physics, this year my grades went down to 60% because i didn't study shit, although I can theoratically understand what's happening
age:18, senior year
math: derivability, series, inverse functions, complex numbers, 3x3 matrices(determinant and inverse)
physics: electricity in general: RC, RL , RLC(forced and free(?) ) , with their differential equations
what do
Step one: Turn off the computer
Step two: Turn off other technology (phone, tv, radio)
Step Three: Study.
Step Four: If you think you are done, you are not, go back and study.

This, and also you should break what you need to know down to it's tiny essential tasks. If you don't know how to, say, divide fractions, and you keep getting things wrong because of it, research how to and then you can move forward with other problems.
Have a really really good foundation.
if our bodies temperature are around 37º C, why when we are in some place at 30º C temperature do we feel heat instead of cold
Because the feeling of heat is entirely biological.
It's basically your body telling you to gtfo of the sun coz sooner or later you'll overheat.
Our body generates its own heat, especially if we are active. Without cooling off our bodies will overheat even at temperatures bellow our natural body temperature. And even though evaporative cooling (i.e. sweating) can work when it is hotter than our natural body temperature outside, it does not work particularly well at high temperatures.

Core temp vs external.
So where do you guys download your textbooks from nowadays?
>>7688124
Internet mostly.

If the Big Bang created space, then what was the singularity contained in and where did it pop into existence?
>>7688074
No, space and matter were created in the big bang.
And space is not absolute "nothing".
its duality
So wait, I've discovered a new way to look at the singularity.
So could the singularity have already been infinite size, always expanding, with uniform distribution of energy
And then became unstable, rippled and caused matter to exist, but will continue to expand further until it is uniform again?
So there really was no singularity the size of an atom like they say. We are in the singularity right now.
Hey /sci/ I'm at university studying engineering but I feel kind of disheartened, because it wasn't what was expecting, and I'm thinking of transferring to a Physics course, because I really enjoy physics and math. How are Physics courses at university? My only desire is to do lt of physics and math with no bullshit Management and Business.
tl;dr I don't like engineering and would like to do Physics.
There is no Business and Management in Physics degrees, there is also no Jobs at the end of it.
>>7688020
I was worried about no jobs. How about Research?
>>7688022
You'll need a PHD, publishing in multiple well regarded journals, good references, top grades, good networking and blind luck. I am somewhat regretting doing a Physics degree. If you think you can handle it give it a go but it's not fun
Is there any negative (health) effect/risk of wearing a non stainless, rusty steel ring?
>>7687998
Its not that rusty and looks are subjective... Anyway, i didnt came here for fashion advice, i just want to know the health effects
>>7687995
inside you, maybe
externally, no
>>7687995
apart from the certain rust stains, wearing it could become most dangerous on junkyards with a magnetic crane. iron itself though is not biologically unhealthy for the organism.
I have a problem that I can't resolve in my mind. If you have an Archimedes Screw in a tube am I right in saying that it is impossible for air to flow through the tube faster than the speed of the screw? I need to know this for an invention that I am working on.
>>7687940
>am I right
no
>>7687940
Nope. Their is a passage from one side to the other without interruption.
>>7687942
There*. Fucked that one up good.
You're still wrong though OP
Discuss. I've just seen this and I've never thought of this calculations in this way. My mind is pretty much blown. (for the record, I'm not a scientist and have never taken any course in science/maths/etc after high school).

Yeah, mathematics isn't just numbers, buddy
Layman here. I need a list of books that fully explain Evolution. I don't want books or essays where the writers simply says "there's underwhelming evidence" and goes on pandering about how amazing science is. I want recommended books with evidence that can referenced and read on.
>>7687849
read the fucking campbell then
>>7687849
>science can fully explain anything
Do you want popsci or textbooks?
HELLO.
WHAT IS THE SCENT EMANATING FROM SPIDERS? IS IT A PHEROMONE? IF SO, WHAT IS ITS CHEMICAL CONSTITUTION?
IT IS A BITTER AND OVERLY PUNGENT SCENT, WHICH I HAVE NOTICED THAT NOT ALL PERSONS CAN SENSE, WHICH IS ODD.
>>7687843
thats the grease you make skub from
HELLO?
I cant smell spiders
Is there some way to deactivate optical illusions by changing the colors or angles or something?
Are there people with superior brains that just don't get fooled by optical illusions?
focus on the black circle
Visual focus can dampen the effects of optical illusions.
>>7687787
There are people who don't get fooled by some optical illusions, they are called "schizophrenics."
I have a questions regarding the origins of human intelligence. Somewhere along the lines of evolution some species species became as intelligent as a human and thus became human(?). Was this "event" a sudden mutation in a single individual or a series of mutations over the course of time in a population?
I guess a better way to put it is did some proto-human end up way smarter than its peers and thrived and reproduced because it was so much smarter? And then its descendants went on to out compete everything else? Looking at human history it looks like we kinda came out of nowhere when it comes to language, tradition, and mysticism. Could we all still be living in jungles of it wasn't for some lucky mutation in a single individual?
>>7687782
>Somewhere along the lines of evolution some species species became as intelligent as a human and thus became human(?)
what?
>>7687786
what i mean is was some proto-human born with a mutation that made him more intelligent than his peers. And did his species classification change as a result of a single mutation?
>>7687782
>I guess a better way to put it is did some proto-human end up way smarter than its peers and thrived and reproduced because it was so much smarter?
no he/she became a tiny bit 'smarter' (you could also call it more succesful, better-adapted, got eaten by other animals less often) and some of his/her kids even an additional bit more then, too, then the next generation again a tiny bit more, and so on and so on
>Could we all still be living in jungles of it wasn't for some lucky mutation in a single individual?
nah that same mutation would have occured again, hundred years later
>aside from Bottom Basic Math, Science
>i have YET to use ANYTHING taught in Elementary, Middle and High School in real life
>>7687764
>real life
if your life is uninteresting and filled with repetitive activities which a monkey could do, that's your own fucking fault
I just started learning how to code. When am I going to get to start using all of the cool math I've learned? So far I'm mostly just using algebra and arithmetic in the books exercises. I've had multi variable calculus, linear algebra, discrete math, intro to group theory, probability, and regression analysis
>>7687764
You can read and write can't you dipshit?
Obviously you being so fucking retarded you can't even realize that, you probably were a shit student then and a shit person now.
How is it that E. Coli from human feces can infect humans? What is it that is different about the pathologic E. Coli and the symbiotic E. Coli in the gut?
>>7687748
those in the gut or even on your skin usually are not supposed to go into your blood or lungs and multiply there. also there are many different strains, some might produce toxic stuff some dont, but that depends on many other factors.
>>7687775
That makes more sense. But, say a man gets an E. Coli infection from eating food prepared by a man who didnt wash his hands after taking a shit. How does that happen?
