I think I can get like a 1 inch rise max. The fairing and tank limit literally everything for bars. What do you mean by highway pegs? The only time I use that term is with cruisers. I think I can make my own version of the DP Superpole seat. They're pretty comfy.

Best liter currently (including panigale)? The rsv4 has dat sound, but the s1000rr is comf and fast, and ducati is beautiful looking. R1m comes with pretty much universal recommendations, and there's a good deal of hype for the new suzuki too. Which would /dbt/ get if they had the money, and why?

It's your skin

Please wear gear anon, doesn't matter what you're riding or where you're going.

Motorcycling is awesome, you want to do it as long as possible

Losing the skin on your hands means no riding for weeks as well as loss of hours at work and general hellish trouble. A $30 pair of riding gloves helps dramatically, better gear is always best.

I genuinely hope you do, at least get a pair of gloves and some sturdy over-the-ankle boots. Holidays from work? They vary by business, but mine include New Years Day, Good Friday, Easter, Independence Day, Thanksgiving and the day after, and Christmas Eve and Day. I accrue 10 days of vacation time a year, and 5 days of personal time, and I can roll over up to 5 of each every year. I don't know where I stand on personal time because I'm the only salaried employee and they don't keep up with my hours closely, but I'm on track to roll over 5 vacation days again this year. I'll probably use all 15 up next year diving in Honduras plus my regular racing schedule.

I get 20 days a year paid to take when I want and 5 days a year for sick or personal leave. Over the christmas shutdown of 2 weeks is also paid and isnt counted on my 20 days.

So i can have 4 weeks off over christmas break and it only costs me 10 days leave and the other 10 just accrue and stay until I use them.

Do not buy the SV1000 if you want a reliable motorcycle. They eat their own stators no matter what year the bike was made and there is no way to prevent it, it will just happen eventually.
>>
>>16205956
a stator is like $30-60 and easy to replace, and also no big deal if it goes out. unless it's burning one every year i wouldn't be concerned

what is the penalty for using non dot slicks on the road? i can get some really cheap and they have good grip. it doesnt really rain here but i guess i can cut some grooves, maybe itll make them seem more legal too.
>>
>>16206053
they don't handle heat cycles very well so after about a week they will be really hard and not grip well.

Also they need to get hot to grip well and it's nearly impossible unless you have miles of back to back corners
>>
>>16205982
If it didn't put metal shavings through the engine it would be a simple fix every time but the magnets separate from the clutch and then shatter. The chunks float through the engine and you have a bad time.
>>16205987
For some reason the VStrom 1000 doesn't burn stators.
>>16205988
You know that a bump started motor with a burned out stator is going to die again very quickly right?
>>
>>16206053
The penalty is not being able to get them up to temp. Depending on the brand and compound, they're probably dangerously slippery up to 180°F, which you can't achieve on the street. My race tires are DOT legal and still unsafe for use without warmers, it's not even easy to ride them around to get them up to temp without lowsiding.

Coils do not contain magnets. I should have said the magneto not the stator. ops. And it is a commonly known problem can be seen talked about on countless SV1000 forums.
>>16205988
Might wanna make that a $376.56 component btw and they fail usually after 15k miles. That price is just the magneto that comes apart, probably will take the R/R with it and that will take the battery so add a couple more hundred on that.

its a known issue for all sv/vstrom engines
iirc someone found some better adhesives to restick the magnets if they get loose.

the "countless" cases you find are pretty condensed, how many by percentage of all bikes do you think have any issues?

There is a host of modern scramblers being built by Ducati, Moto Guzzi, BMW, Benelli and Triumph that many mature-aged riders claim are not scramblers at all.

They are, of course, right.

Go to the end of this article and vote for your favourite modern “scrambler”!

Scrambler is an old term for a dirt bike up to about 650cc capacity that raced on off-road tracks with low jumps (by today’s standards) and various obstacles.

The old scramblers died off in the mid-70s, replaced by the far superior modern motocross bike with more power, lighter weight and longer-travel suspension.

Of course, the scrambles tracks have also evolved into today’s MX tracks with massive jumps and stutters that would kill one of those scramblers in a lap.

Wind the clock forward about four decades and the term, scrambler, has returned.

Triumph Scrambler scramblers
2006 Triumph Scrambler
Riders who want a scrambler don’t necessarily want to go hare scrambles racing, but want something that looks like an old scrambler.

They seek form over function.

RD's are nice.

i had the chance to buy a basketcase rz500 years ago, but i need a bike as a dd so had to pass it up. so much regret. was cheap as fuck.
>>
>>16206609
I have an RD350 with a DS7 (I know... I know...) motor in it, but I sent a basket case RD400 engine off to Spec II and then Scott himself to be built to the fucking hilt and now its back, just in time for winter... I have some kehin 32mm carbs for it and custom tuned expansion chambers, aand a a modern dual spark ignition (fuck points and condensors) from some german company I can't remember. I want the 2 stroke power wheelies and I want em bad. I can feel it in my balls. The goal is to have it running before Spring.

---
Same Ducati Dude here. The only picture I have right I already posted, the rest are on my laptop. also lemme reiterate I'm retarded and its a 350, I have a 400 motor for it. It currently has a 250 DS7.

Have a picture of my sorely missed 1000 Hurricane.

Yes, because the form thats currently popular A: has nothing to do with function and could easily be replaced with different stying without adding weight or destroying ergonomics and B: is associated with 13 year olds and hooligans.

Adult off-roaders seeking an escape from the pointy, garish plastics that make no attempt to soften up the already aggressive stance that comes from an MX/dirt suspension are kind of screwed

Only sportbikes offer mature aesthetics and top tier performance in one stock package these days. You can get a very edgy looking cuckasucky ZX#, or a sleeker, more professional looking CBR. With the sole other "function first" genre, it's edgy shit or go home unless you want to opt for more weight and a worse suspension as some sort of fucking "adventure" bike.

Seriously look at this shit.

It looks like a cheap toy. It doesn't have to, but it does. Hell, it could look more professional with less plastic, saving weight in the redesign. Adults that want to look like adults shy away from this crap more than they shy away from having alpinestars and icon logos on every square inch of their body.

I actually went to look at the AT when I spotted the Tiger. It was like fate or something. I like my torque, but after the 1050 I have triple fever. The 800 is smooth as fuck, but ride by wire takes some getting used to. Dat WP suspension tho.

Also the AT air filter is 225% easier to get to than the air filter on the Tiger.

Are you implying the hipster faggots who buy scramblers ride them off road?
Because they don't and old people are smart enough to understand that the bikes we have today are insane compared to what they could get their hands on back in the 70's and 80's so they all actually love them, i have never met someone over the age of 50 who owned a dirt bike and was not in love with the thing.

Just go buy your form over function scrambler and stop trying to change things you do not understand.

Is your reasoning behind this logic that you can't ride a dirt bike off road so no one in the history of owning dirt bikes wants to?
Because it honestly sounds that way...
Reality is 99% of people who own a dirt bike want to ride it off road and they desire a functional bike more than a pretty one.
