I've eaten shit in the exact same manner on a bicycle and I had the neck strength to keep my head rigid no problem, he banged his helmet because a: its like a 2 inch extension on your head, and b: its fucking heavy, and makes it hard to stop the momentum generated by his torso.

basically every "see, this is why we need helmets!!!!" webm or whatever is just that, some dude banging his head because when you put on a helmet you turn into a fucking bobble head with the big head mode cheat on

For sure dude, I need my helmet for when I get blindsided from behind at a stop light, (like this guy >>1324686 if the truck had tried to add two more crying while laughing emojis to his text and didn't look up in time) that way after my legs and arms are mangled all to shit, I can still cling to life long enough to get stuck with six figure medical bills.

Or do I need my helmet for when I fall over sideways, in that case let me suit up right now, I'm about to walk down stairs and I could skip a step, and then GOD KNOWS what will happen, hopefully my trusty walking helmet will save me from the certain death of toppling over to the side like a drunk person

I don't know what type of rider you are or how complicated are things in your area.
I just wear my helmet because I ride 9 hours a day and had front, rear, side collisions; at high and low speeds. It's always the same, head first into the ground.
That 6 figure medical bills it's different here, since we have free health care. Nevertheless I apreciate my face.

something like 70% of MC crashes are just from turning. There is no reason to lean that much, you should slow down on turns if you dont want to get fucked by a tiny bit of gravel or oil on the road etc. Placing all your bets on the rubber holding all the centrifugal force is stupid.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_findings_in_the_Hurt_Report
>with the typical error being a slide-out and fall due to overbraking or running wide on a curve due to excess speed or under-cornering.
Read that as people retardedly forgetting to turn or locking up their brakes because they are afraid of the corner. It is much more rare for someone to crash because of gravel in the corner or because they were going too fast for their tires to maintain grip through the corner.
>>
>>1347705
>something like 70% of MC crashes are just from turning.
And I might as well prove that wrong from the same source.
>Approximately three-fourths of these motorcycle accidents involved collision with another vehicle
>In the multiple vehicle accidents, the driver of the other vehicle violated the motorcycle right-of-way and caused the accident in two-thirds of those accidents.
That's half of all motorcycle accidents caused by a car violating a bike's right of way.

Man you're a shitty rider.

You had plenty of time to brake fuckboi.
You could have ridden to the right and out of the cars path
You rode into the opposite lane.

>"Are you fucking kidding me!"

No, are YOU fucking kidding ME? You're a fucking gnat on the road. Everything else can kill you. Drive more defensively or one day you'll encounter a stupid driver and they're going to fuck your life up because you ride like a moron.
>>
>>1368029

>not understanding how to lane split intelligently and safely.

The car changed lanes ahead of you because he either didn't see you, or expected you to slow down. Car drivers can't read your fucking mind. He doesn't know you're going to split lanes. You need to do it slowly and safely. If the traffic is stopped, you can't shoot through doing 30. You are not giving people enough time to react, and you are not driving defensively.

Protips: Never split at more than 15 mph faster than the rest of the flow of traffic. If you're going to split, don't shoot through. Slow down with the rest of the traffic and then split. Make it completely deliberate and obvious. Otherwise shit like this video happens, and it's entirely your fault.

Also the fact that he ate shit on that easy turn is hilarious. getfukt

Here where I live in Florida, riding without a helmet is legal if you're over 18. BUT, it is implied consent that you will not seek damages over head injuries. So, for example, if some dumb fuck is sitting behind you at a red light and lets his/her foot off the brake and pops you in the back, you fall forward, or to the side, or whatever, and bump the fuck out of your head. If you are not wearing a helmet, you cannot sue them, and their insurance has no obligation to pay for any head related injuries you might have.

The entire point of the post I originally replied to was that it was a motorcycle rider that did it, and that's why it was bad, and even implying that it's okay when cars do it.

The thought process of any action a motorcycle rider, or even any driver takes should be safety, efficiency, then the law, in that order. What the rider did was not unsafe, not did it hinder efficiency of traffic, and it was only against the law, and not even an important one at that.

Also, the assumption that I disagree with right of way laws and lanes is preposterous. By the way, speed limits don't save lives.

I want to learn to ride, but this shit worries me. How much do you actually have to lean on a street bike? Is the problem with these webms simply that the rider isn't focusing on the direction he wants the bike to go in?

You don't have to lean much. Watch some motovloggers, you'll see that they never lean, and look at cruisers, it's physically impossible for them to lean. If you just don't go too fast, you won't have to lean much, and as you get more experience you get more comfortable getting closer and closer to the ground.

>efficiency, then the law,

This makes no sense. It should be Safety, Law, then efficiency. Efficiency should never outweigh the law, You're essentially stating that if it is convenient to you, then you can do whatever you want as long as it is safe. Laws exist for a reason, whether it may be openly apparent to you at the moment or not.
>>
>>1382417
>it's ok for me to zip through a gas station lot to skip a light
>That already is legal
>yes, it would be okay, because it's not unsafe, inefficient, or illegal.

First of all, it isn't legal. It is very much illegal to skip an intersection by using a parking or other surface other than a designated road way. Just because it isn't caught often, does not mean that it isn't illegal (obviously depends where you live, most places it's illegal).

Also, not unsafe? Are you dense? What if everyone started using the gas station parking lot as a means of skipping intersection, essentially treating it like a regular road way? Pedestrians are crossing parking lots all the time, to have people zooming through it consistently would be fucking retarded, not to mention the enormous increase in traffic going through it.

Again, inefficiency is irrelevant here. It is illegal and unsafe, it doesn't matter if it is more efficient to use that method.

You are actually the person on the road that causes accidents. Holy shit.

You fuck off!

Seriously stop driving. I don't understand how you can defend something that is so obviously dangerous to not only yourself, but especially to those around you.

>You're pretending that 'efficiency' involves only me.

That only reinforces my point. Efficiency for anyone should never matter. It's efficient for you to run a red with no other cars on the road, while it's also efficient for the pedestrian to walk when it says it isn't. This kind of shit results in accidents happening.

>but no one was on the road! I thought it was safe!

It wasn't. You just didn't notice. That is why so many of these laws are in place, to prevent accidents from occuring EVEN WHEN YOU THINK IT'S SAFE AND EFFICIENT/CONVENIENT. Holy fuck it's amazing how dense you are.

> If you think that every single law is good, you're delusional.

I'm not arguing whether you can smoke weed or not you dingus. Most, if not all, traffic laws have been put into place to prevent accidents and unnecessary damage from occurring. You're fucking blowing my mind that you think your convenience and efficiency outweigh the law.

Honestly you are actually going to kill someone someday. Please drive seriously.

I have no experience at all in motorcycles, can you tell me just by the sound if this bike has any problem? I am about to buy it and the owner sent me this video and I had an expert friend riding it to tell me if it had any problem and he said the acceleration in 5th gear from 50 km/h wasn't good, but everything else was fine, so I'm guessing the jets' setup needs to be redone.
>>
>>1395602
I'd perform, or have performed, a cold compression test. Jetting doesn't magically go bad. If it's been altered incorrectly, chances are good there are other problems installed by a previous owner.

If compression is low within or out of limits, skip it because paying for top end jobs sucks and doing them yourself sucks much less but is still annoying. Parts aren't free.

If this is to be an onlybike, buy Japanese and ignore the Italianbike meme. Ninety percent of why people buy Guidobikes is appearance, Italian motorcycles make acceptable second machines, but new riders should put reliability first, middle and last. You aren't racing where tiny performance margins matter.
>>
>>1384835
Take a rider course. The current internet obsession with max lean has little to do with performance in (most) riding. /dbt/ is /race/ so you came to the wrong place for anything else.

Buy and read a copy of Proficient Motorcycling while hunting a rider course.

>>1384878
RIDER COURSE. The internet can be useful but it won't teach you the muscle memory and kinesthetic experience of riding any more than watching porn teaches you how to fuck.
>>
>>1384782
I like it. Motorcycle throttle designs were not always twist grip, and a snomochine throttle would be sweet in cold weather.

I never thought of trying it and I've been wrenching a very long time. Imma have to look into it. Could be a great way to reduce carpal tunnel pain on long rides too.

Motorcycle controls evolved from a mix of tradition and US Federal law. They are standard to be standard, not "better" than alternatives.

As far as actual street riding goes very little, but yes, you will need to counter steer to do anything on a bike.
You don't need to get knee down or anything, but if you ride around without leaning you will ride like shit.

Also if you a have a dual sport, dirt bike, etc. you'll end up having a different riding style that emphasizes leaning less.

Hey probably not the right place to ask but this has pretty much sent me over the edge of getting a motorcycle licence and a bike anything you guys recomend doing/ practicing

Take the MSF course. In my state you take the two day course and the instructors then do your riding test. After two days riding with them you're a lot less nervous that testing with a state cop.

The MSF course I took used 250's (there may have been a few smaller bikes in there. Not sure since there was 13 of us in the class).

And this guy >>1397131 is kind of right. After the course I bought a 650 cruiser and there was a huge difference. I got used to it quickly but yeah, there's not much trouble you can get into with a 250 on a MSF course.

there's nothing wrong with 250s, I started on a 250 about five years ago and I always come back to them, they're too fun to push around

Got it used from a faggit who wanted to get rid of it because his wife told him so.
Sold me for 1000€ and he even bought the registry change and gave me his helmet and gloves.

you can go ham on it and start with a >250cc but it wont be easy. I recommend going lighter. 125cc is an optimal place to start because they are small and light. the lighter the bike the easier it is to handle and the more errors you can make before landing on your face

That bike is just a wheelie machine. He stalled, rolled on the power hard, and dropped the clutch.
Wheelie.
To avoid that, don't pop (or drop) the clutch. On higher displacement bikes, be careful rolling on the throttle quickly. What he did isn't so much of a concern on a learner bike, a 250 or some odd, but it is still possible.
