Failed my module 1 bike test this morning.

Went way too fast in the hazard avoidance swerve, overshot the blue cones by over a metre.
>>
>>16197230
>he could have made the turn
How do you know?
did you see if there was any other obstacle on his right? where you there?
do you know how fast the car was going or if he accellerated suddently when went straight instead of turning?
are you homeschooled?
>>
>>16197278
There was a time when being homeschooled meant having a superior education.
I guess it's still preferable to going to Burgerland public school.

I don't know any of that. What I do know, though, is that he passed a car on the right at an intersection before the car started turning. So the question is: are you really trying to defend that?
>>
>>16197289
You're -assuming- he he passed the car before it started turning,
as far as what he said the car could have started turning and then gone back to his lane.

Throttle tubes and grips....
Why isn't anything sticking? I've cleaned the surfaces with iso alcohol and they're dry. I've tried a bunch of different glues and nothing seems to hold for more than a week. I tried the paint and also hairspray approach and I don't like the feel of wiring down the grips. The best thing I've used so far was friction tape and it was very difficult to get the grip on and it still has a bit of slip inside.
I wish I never bothered replacing the grip, the rock solid feel of the old one was better even if it was torn up.
>>
>>16197302

>What's the general consensus on Royal Enfields? I'm looking for something with vintage styling, but a relatively new bike is also appealing.

They capture the vintage British experience very, very well. Unless you are a mechanical masochist they are best avoided, tho if you wrench they are easy. Keep in mind OG Britbike owners were used to perpetual wrenching on machine that made old Harleys look reliable, which by comparison they are. Quality control is meh. Horsepower is homeopathic.

I'd buy a Hinckley Triumph Bonneville used if I had modern pseudo-vintage Britlust. I wouldn't buy an Enfield (unless used and stoopid cheap and never a main ride and even then my choice would be questionable) and I've worked on British bikes since the 1970s. triumphrat is a good Triumph forum.

Alternate option because there are so many with low miles is a later solid mount Evo Sportster, which is a "1960s classic motorcycle" with the reliability issues fixed, better aftermarket than any other brand (compared to Harleys, there is no other aftermarket thanks to long production runs), and very simple design. Easy and cheap to return to it's 1950s stylistic origins since so little changed, and you can beat the shit out of them. xlforum has exhaustive detail.

>>16197643

>Are parts cheap, though?

Yes, and they are plentiful. You can build a complete motorcycle from aftermarket parts and not buy a single nut, bolt or washer from the Motor Company.

HDs of recent vintage are reliable, but Harley haters hate Harley on principle because they hate the mass of posers who buy new ones. Ignore them then learn on actual HD forums (guess wat forum this is not?) to determine if want. The real HD community is large and diverse.

Evolution engines are boringly reliable and easy to maintain. Older models are easy to maintain (if you are a mechanic, and every biker was expected to be one in that era) tho more fiddly, but the Shovelhead/Ironhead era was a very, very long time ago. Most of the people alive in the 1970s are dead today. The rest will be shortly.

This repair is best next to directly wiring with crimp connectors and heat shrink. Connectors are convenient, but so is straight wiring and if you replace a light snipping the wires is trivial.

Bare crimp connectors in bulk and a variety of sizes are cheap on Ebay. So is polyolefin heat shrink with internal adhesive.

If in hurry, check your local industrial supplier like Fastenal.

>>
>>16197686
cash in hand and negotiate
there is really no good way since they don't need to get rid of it. they don't make a noticeable lost by just letting it sit for 2 years and eventually someone will come by and buy it for their price
>>
>>16197668
Ensure no air bubbles in system. If no instructions exist for bleeding air, and you KNOW you've enough coolant to be safe, I'd ride it to get to temp. Most systems burp themselves.

If your engine gets warm by feel but your temp gauge shows nothing and sender is undamaged, there may be air bubble near temp sender. I've not worked on that bike but cooling system theory on otherbikes and autos is the same.

I suppose that it was kinda important to note that I had mostly water as a coolant and I thought that 102? on idle after couple of minutes was normal. Then I learned that it is, in fact, very abnormal. so I drained reserve tank and filled it with antifreeze solution. now the temp on idle won't go over 82?. I'll be giving her major maintenance in spring, previous owner kinda didn't know what he was doing apparently.

also, I want to fool around with custom paint job, is there any chinese supplier that /dbt/ can recommend? I will almost certainly fuck them up but I want to learn from my own mistakes on a cheap chink set, and if it turns out not that horrible I don't want to think that it'll break off or something. bike is '02 cbr954 a shit.

A wrap might help for a little while but it will wear out and burn through. If it's just a small hole a good exhaust shop should be able to fix it quickly. Even easier if you take the pipe in separate from the bike.

125 isn't that slow man. I learned on a Kawasaki Eliminator 125 and that thing could get up to 50mph fairly quick. A quick highway run in the slow lane going 1 exit is no big deal.

yes, it's pretty good for transportation. you'll be getting close to 80 miles per gallon (or 20 per liter or whatever the fuck britfags use) so that alone is godmode compared to most cars. it also helps that UK has a decent motorcycle culture where you can filter and cars know to look out for you. here in the USA, you just pray some soccer mom in her 7000 pound Suburban doesn't turn you into a red paste because she dropped her cell phone

Pull off carbs and check float is set at correct height (make sure the float floats too..)

Gumtree is a good place to look for something local.

Post 2007 YBR is probably the best all round little commuter bike. You could go with a dual sport like an XR125 or DT125 then you can mess around on dirt tracks and stuff where your small engine isn't as much of an issue.

>Does the hipster heatwrap do anything at all?

Wrap is the modern equivalent of spraybombing yer exhaust with BBQ paint (which can work surprisingly well). It traps moisture so paint heavily before applying unless you don't care.

Wrap traps heat and some moisture so it may reduce pipe life.

Wrap can somewhat plug leaks but you can scissor out some aluminum sheet from a soda can, conform it to your leak, then wrap around that patch you can effectively stop the leak.

There are many ways to reduce or stop leaks. Clear RTV is quite tolerant of heat and doesn't look like ass if slightly visible. You can often seal patches with it. Very good for leaking exhaust gaskets and I give all my exhaust gaskets a skim coat prior to install if they need it or not.

Agree with cleaning carbs, also dump out fuel tank contents, clean petcock strainer, and use inline plastic fuel filter if not already fitted.

Pull oil filler cap and sniff for petrol. A very flooded engine can dump fuel into the crankcase.

Inspect vacuum fuel valve if fitted since you are there anyway.

In future post YEAR, MAKE, MODEL even if you don't think it matters.

Own a factory service manual. Distant second choices are Clymer, Haynes, and Chilton in no particular order as their quality varies.

If Harley, get factory parts book and factory service manuals which are wonderfully done and the standard by which all manuals should be judged.
>>
>>16197215
Arn't they made in India and exclusivity shit now? They are basically standard shithouse Indian quality with a British brand on it.

I'd avoid them imo, they aren't fast, nor comfortable, nor reliable and the brand isn't what it used to be, not by a long shot
>>
>>16197912
I forgot to mention you should leak check your carbs by gravity feed off the motorcycle if practical. I use riding mower tanks but you can hang a longer hose off your stock tank.

Checking off bike allows easy isolation if one float sticks or needle (inspect their black Viton tips) is worn.

Pine-Sol dip is love.

Buy Gates or other fuel injection hose when replacing fuel lines. Generic auto store hose is shit, but most stock fuel injection hose too. Best deals I've found are via Ebay if you can wait.
>>
>>16197872
Flooding the carbs and they are probably firty, cleaning them properly should be fine. If you flood you need to leave it for 5 mins, or if you get it started leave it idle for sometime (5-10 mins). Nothing fucking worse than flooding the carb like a sperg, take it from me
>>
>>16197992
>Thanks. Why under 10k? I don't understand this miles thing. Do vehicles have a miles limit?

On tinybikes that matters because they get flogged harder to keep up with traffic. I'd stick to it up to 250cc displacement.

For larger machines that's kind of a "if you are not a mechanic" meme. 10K mattered when top end jobs were every 20/20K in the 1960s on allbikes but Jap and BMW. Now mostbikes will do 100,000 miles if treated decently.

I buy by condition vs. price. Check model specific resources for known problems.

>that had the consequence of me shiting my pants on my first 600cc in every corner for a few months

Kids these days. When I was a lad we rode all year in vile weather and smiled because we were riding. Vibration helps circulate blood. If it bleeds, you are fine. If it doesn't, review your bleeding.

Any hydraulic fitting alone the brake line may be bled, not just the bleeder screw at caliper. I use small "constant tension" hose clamps to snug my bleeder tubing on the nipple. Towels, adult diapers (work great, rob a gummer if you must) etc keep fluid mostly off rest of bike.

Air rises, so I bleed the fitting on the master cylinder first. Old trick, works well, and you can go back and forth over bleed points to get last bit of air.

Anti-seize your bleeder screw threads. Helps seal during bleeding and keeps the fuckers from seizing later on.

If caliper swapping to a different style caliper take care. I just had my ass kicked by not shimming a caliper swap quite right then trying to bleed. From now on I'll leave the hardware loose, bleed, then secure hardware and test spin wheel for drag as final check.

Best way to check is bleed until good lever feel, ride bike to verify, then check feel next day. It will almost always be fine.

If you don't care you can skip the bleed hose and spew fluid where you like, tho all but DOT 5 eat paint. I catch my goo in a towel or plastic bag with paper towel if no bleeder cup handy.

I re-read the rules
A1 lessons from 17
Exam at 18
A2 lessons from 19 (if you already have A1, otherwise 20)
A2 exam at 20
A lessons from 22 (if you already have A2, otherwise 24)
Exam A from 22 (if you already have A2, otherwise 24)

You're read the rules wrong.

A1 is 17-19.
A2 is 19-23
A is 24 (for direct access) or from 21 if you've held your A2 for 2 years.

>How do you get away from police?

Shoot first and you don't have to run. Follow up with the bayonet to save ammo.

>I have a mightyvac. I am telling you, this method is not 100%.

No shit it isn't, and I've used them since they came out in-shop. Used the brass ones too. Fun fact, Hustler magazine used to sell a penis pump that was basically a cock bong with a standard Sears/Lisle/etc brake vacuum pump. Vacs work great until they don't, and it's not the hardware, it's particular brake systems.

Pressure bleeding with a custom master cylinder cap is probably the most awesome way to do it. Some people make their bleeders. You need a cap without a vent hole, a cap seal, a hose barb, and a common pump sprayer. I don't have one because fuck making a bunch of caps for different master cylinders, tho with a mill I should at least do Harleys. Used master cylinder caps are cheap on Ebay.

This design is famous:

Because we aren't allowed to drive a proper vehicle solo <18.
It's only since a few years you are allowed to drive a car at 17 (if you have someone next to you that has a valid licence for 5 years and is sober)

>>16199292
We have mobile roller benches
If your scooter/moped can go faster then they are supposed to (don't know the exact speed) they will take and crush it.

125ccs are rare though. We never had them before the A1 licence came around, so don't know if they even check them.

That's pretty much the same as the UK, except they only have to have had their license for 3 years, but have to be over 21.
