How can I learn to solo like J Mascis?
That pick guard there is pretty. My favorite Fender Medium picks have that same sort of design, does it have a name?
Here's my thing 'o' the day: is guitar hard? I've played since I was a kid but only ever play by myself. I've never been in a band, I've never jammed with someone, none of that. But my younger brother knows piano and sax and can read music and thought he would be able to pick up playing Ukulele quickly, and he is head over heels on that fucking thing. I grabbed it from him and basically knew exactly what to do--ukulele seems like dumb guitar, in the sweetest sense.
He was kind of jelly, but I just never thought that guitar was hard to learn--or harder than other instruments. Although, I guess it's hard enough for the 10,000,000 people who own guitars but can't play them to not ever care enough to really try?
So, guitar friends, where does a guitar (or any string instrument) rank in terms of difficulty, among other instruments?
Neo-4chan users don't know what b8 looks like, no matter how obvious.

Discuss Claire Elise Boucher aka the new Mozart.
New interview: http://vmagazine.com/article/v104-grimes-interview/
>Still, Boucher’s not entirely prepared to abandon the glamour of big budget videos just yet; she has also just finished collaborating with Janelle Monáe on her video for “Venus Fly,” their shared track on Art Angels, which will serve as the 11th and final video off the album.
>As she closes the door on this album, Boucher has a calmer project in mind for the next: “I’m really vibing on making something really slow and gorgeous that just breathes, and has room to breathe. I feel like my work has always been fast paced, kinetic, and almost just manic and I feel like for me the hardest thing I can do is make something that’s slow and heavy. I’m so ADD in my work; I really want to push myself into something that would be slower and more reflective.”
Daily reminder to be nice to Grimes.

The point of these threads is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.

Ganksta N-I-P - The South Park Psycho (1992)
>horrorcore, southern hip hop, gangsta rap
So vulgar and horrible it absolutely crosses over into "so bad it's good" territory. N-I-P's lyrics are obviously incredibly horrific. One doesn't have to look further than "Disgusting" to realize the true extent of how fucking vulgar this album is. "Went out to eat with a bitch that I hate / So I nutted in her cup to keep from buying her another shake / Raised up her dress, her pussy smelled like socks / I got mad and made her drink some period blood on the rocks” really only scratches the surface of the disgusting lyrics on this thing, and for how awful they are, I really do love them. They're just /so/ over-the-top, and they're delivered with a scary amount of passion and conviction. However, the pure enjoyment I get from the lyrics and their delivery is really the only majorly positive thing I can say about this album. The beats are alright, I guess, but really unmemorable and cheesy at times, especially with the overuse of the same gun sound effect. This kind of adds to the aesthetic of the album, but taken on it's own it's just lousy, lazy production. It's a good listen for today, but I can't say I'd ever give it another serious listen.
