Can someone give me a detailed timeline of what happened to Kanye West between 2008-2010 and what lead him to creating what is considered his masterpiece, and one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time?
>>71173070
From what I know he was stressed and his mental well-being was deteriorating. He left for Hawaii, essentially exiling himself. From here he spent a shit load of Def Jams money on hiring producers and talent for all the features. Everyone just kind of came together and created a masterpiece.
Overrated album.
Yes I can.
>2007: Graduation is a huge success. He plans on proposing to his longtime GF (since before college dropout gf). His mother, whom he loves dearly and raised him alone wants to get plastic surgery.
>2007~2008: his mother dies due to complications in surgery. He spirals out of control, losing the light of his life. He proposes to gf and she denies him and walks out.
>2008: depressed and suicidal, he flies off to Paris, then tokyo, just getting fucked up and avoiding everyone. He makes 808s and heartbreaks, using auto tune because he felt like a sad robot with no heart left. (See spike jonze short film) infamous Taylor Swift incident.
>2009: he realizes he had fucked up real bad, and would be in the bargain bin with the other wash ups soon if he didn't redeem himself. Gathers his favorite artists together from (bon iver, pusha, ty $, etc). Flies them to a mansion in Hawaii to stay with them for an entire summer. Works day and night (literally, sleeping in studio) to make something he believed could redeem himself
>2010: succeeds.
Kanye West has an extremely interesting life. I can't help but watch every doc, interview etc.

>needless to say, the very same critics and publications that ignored the Swans when they were releasing one masterpiece after the other hailed this mediocre senile work as a masterpiece 30 years later, finding all sorts of hidden meanings in what was simply an astute sellout.
How exactly did Gira sell out with The Seer?
>>71170220
Holy fuck he actually called them "the Swans"
giving in to the post rock label, hiding lack of ideas behind drones, pandering to the indie community
>>71170220
He didn't. Newer Swans is very much a different take on the exactly same style of music that Swans have always done. Yet there are fans that are irrationally mad for idk what reason. It's not like the new stuff is that easy to digest compared to their 90s stuff.

Fucking trash

That's what you get for liking Opeth
Racist
Nice reverse racism, bigot.
I am absolutely in love with My Bloody Valentine's entire discography. What other shoegaze bands can send you into that trance state as well as MBV?
Nothing in my opinion, they are completely in a league of their own.
>>71170252
This is how I'm starting to feel. I've tried listening to so many other bands but they don't even come close. Swirlies, Slowdive, Ride, The Pains..., TJAMC, and more. They're all so much worse.
>>71170116
Not a lot but the closest in my opinion is either Slowdive or All Natural Lemon & Lime Flavors. Sweet Trip can be good sometimes too.
If you could launch an album to space so a superior space being could hear it, which album would you launch?
Probably something classical, even though I don't listen to it
>>71170080
something classical obv
Here Comes The Indian
OOTL, what's up with Michael Gira's rape accusation? Should I wtf I hate Michael now or not?
>>71170047
Larkin was full of shit, awkwardly made advances on her, but obviously not rape
im not some mra fag but he probably didnt do it. That bitch was gross and mikeys got indie cred for years, micropenis or not.
This is old news, no. Considering tracks like Raping A Slave and A Screw you shouldn't be surprised by this. Just because you like an artist doesn't mean you have to agree with every single thing they've done. There's no such thing as a perfect person
We prove that RYM is filled with filthy plebs
Animal Collective is vastly overrated on /mu/. It's good to see that RYM rates them truthfully.
all you have to do is post the top albums chart
>>71170048
yeah but that album is a 4/5

Which of these bands should I definitely get into/see? LCD, Cage, and Shins are some of my favorites but what albums should I listen to get familiar with these other bands? Which ones are actually worth it?
Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary is a great album and they sound awesome live
>>71169834
I'm going for Bishop Briggs and The XX, but my buddy got us a three day pass.
obviously pixies. most of the other bands I (i) have never heard of or (ii) would not be interested in seeing.
Name my band, /mu/
Stretched Out.
