Anyone here old enough to remember when the Beatles were in their prime? Like when they dropped Abbey Road.
How were they perceived at the time? Like one direction is today or more respected by oldfags of that time as well?
around that time people were sure that they would never release another album again. they had heard the rumors of them fighting and practically disbanding after the get back/let it be sessions. we got a single from them the ballad of john and yoko which was basically just a john song with paul playing on it and some other b sides from let it be.
then boom, right after the summer they drop abbey road out of fucking nowhere. strung together from bits from the white album and material they working on during the spring to summer, came out what most consider to be their best work
the month before and after there was constant radio play of 'Come Together' and 'Something'. it was the hottest selling album through 1970 as well
Personally, Sun King is my favorite song from them period

>Like one direction is today
Only by some in the very early days. Pretty much all other musicians and critics considered them to be a serious musical force from Rubber Soul onwards. Their albums were anticipated the way AAA video games or massive blockbuster films are today. As rock music was the most popular form of entertainment at the times and they were the leading figures, every album came with enormous anticipation. There were constant rumours about conflict between the band during recording sessions.

>anticipated the way AAA video games or massive blockbuster films are today
So they were liked by both young and old, yes?

good pick anon
i hadn't heard this version
ITT: good "sellout" albums
that's it though, you simultaneously started and ended the thread because that's the only one
I have to say though I like The League of Gentlemen more than I like Discipline
I wish all arena type rock was this good
>>71202378
shit
It's a good album in and of itself, just pales in insignificance to their subsequent output which was a bit more daring.
It's that the type of music in Pablo honey is looked down upon by the people who are fans of their stuff like kid a or in rainbows for example
Thus the meme is born.
>>71345333
no shit
It's extremely sub par in comparison to The Bends and OK Computer, that's about it. For sure it's still okay

But they are different genres
Looking for suggestions on another record to buy. based on whatever you have that you liked or on what i have already. So far I'm really thinking of getting David Bowie- Hunky Dory. Its an album i never listened too and i saw some good reviews here and there. But also looking to get something different from what I already have, like either Wes Montgomery or Nine Inch Nails-With Teeth . But its a shit ton of money on amazon right now and i know i can find it cheaper elsewhere.
So yeah any suggestions would be great for me to look into. And also yeah if you want to share whatever favorite record you have that would be cool too. Thanks

Also have some beatle albums I found in the basement. Debating about buying a Pink Floyd album, already listened to The Wall, Darkside, and some of Wish you were here.
Also want to get a Boards of Canada album. Unfortunately my favorite song from them isn't on any of their albums
>>71202770
What's your favorite song from them? Boards of Canada have some of the nicest record packaging I've seen. I'd actually suggest getting The Campfire Headphase, I think you'd like it a lot.
>>71202836
Seven forty seven. And yeah thats the album I downloaded a few days ago so i might get that
>Death Grips are the only truly exciting new musical group in the last 7 years

Can we get a numale essental chart?
This album is a must have, but lets expand... what other albums make low-test men feel good about themselves?
Your favorite album
TAKE A LOOK AT THESE DUBS
>>71201711
This album is nearly flawless. Scream is the only track I don't listen with the same pleasure as the others.
So... we can all agree this is the worst thing to ever happen to American pop music, right?
That would be Max Martin.
It's like if you spayed FKA twigs and put her in solitary confinement until she forgot how to be interesting
>>71201642
but FKA twigs is already Grimes but boring and uninteresting
>I don't like Katy Perry
fuck it just dawned on me

checked
Since the dust is settled, I think Magneto is the best song on it and maybe one of the best songs of Nick Cave ever.
Agree?
>>71201419
last 3 tracks are amazing as are first two
pretty much AOTY but maybe not quite
>>71201465
I believe everysong in it maybe except Girl In Amber and Anthrocene are perfect but Magneto is the one that kills me. It is so good and I believe the most sincere one.
>>71201419
I agree even though I didn't like it at first but it really grew on me and I think it's great now. Rings of Saturn, Girl in Amber, Magneto and Distant Sky are all 10/10 songs. Don't care for the rest though.
>4 actually good songs on the billboard top ten chart
Where were you when popular music started becoming good again? I'm actually surprised
Is it time to guess what songs are the good ones?
...One of them better be the Rhianna one. Anti was her best album
>>71345090
Reatrded or b8? There isn't anything even remotely good there.
>>71345090
I'll take a guess and say it's I Feel It Coming and Love on the Brain? Because the rest range from meh to downright bad
going on a medium drive through cornfields today, literally going to be boring as hell, I could use a good adventurous playlist. Indie/Folk/Rock/Alternative preferably.
Please do help lol. I am at a mental block and get seem to be able to put together a new, good playlist.
>>71201314
that new sun kil moon joint is perfect road trip music
>>71201314
what do you normally like? I just got back from a 4 hour drive a few weeks ago. I downloaded
Tobacco- sweatbox dynasty
Timecop1983- just two full random albums from youtube
and a couple of podcasts interviews from marc maron, joe rogan, and some howard stern interviews and "best of" howard stern kinda stuff
hour and a half aint bad. but personally i feel like podcasts and talk radiostuff is the best to listen to for long drives to help break up constantly listening to music...
also downloaded stand up acts that i never heard before
>This man literally invented a genre of music and you're doing nothing but fap and eat hot pockets
How does that make you fee?
>>This man literally invented a genre of music
Did he? You're probably thinking of Charlie Parker.
>>71345087
Whoops! Op here! Sorry I got the wrong picture. Here we go.
>>71345132
How exactly did Charlie Parker invent Free jazz?
