Radiohead is the one of the best bands of all time:
http://musicthatmakesyoudumb.virgil.gr/
People who score highest on SAT listen to Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, and Ben Folds.
But Radiohead was number one.
https://www.besteveralbums.com/overall.php?o=&f=&fv=&orderby=-InfoRankScore&sortdir=asc&page=6
Have number 1, 6, 15, and 16 best ranked albums of all time.
Kid A is ranked the best album of the 21st century.
OK Computer ranked best of all time.
Every single album they have ever released topped the charts, if only the alternative charts for that year.
Constantly evolving, from grunge to alt rock to electronic to even orchestral rock.
If anyone can name a band more genre defining and influential, besides maybe The Beatles, I'll be impressed.
A challenger appears!

That music SAT score meme is still the thing I bring up when I say 85% of research is garbage
People who get great scores on the SAT study so they don't really spend much time broadening their music tastes.
What's his endgame?

To be an autistic dumb shit who writes shitty songs for faggots and 70 year old women who go to all inclusive resorts and do the electric slide.
Most of you probably don't know this, but deadmau5 recently came out with an album called "stuff i used to do". No, don't leave just now. I get that EDM is shit, I used to make it myself, and then moved onto IDM and other genres because it's so formulaic.
But it's also true that deadmau5 has, in certain ways, not fit that trend. As cringey as he might be in certain ways, a lot of his tracks are non-pop works that don't rely on hooks.
…but maybe the most important thing here is the border between EDM and IDM. Because you listen to "stuff i used to do", and a bunch of that is old school dance, and for sure some I'd consider to be IDM. I usually think of EDM and IDM as distinctly two separate things, one is good and the other isn't, but is that characterization correct? Isn't it just a bit too simplistic? For example, I've also seen Flying Lotus live, and as much as I adore him as an artist, his live shows are his songs remixed into EDM. And that irked me at the time, but maybe there's something to it—maybe it has to do with striking a balance between the artistry and acceptable structure. Maybe EDM isn't artistically bankrupt after all.
…or all EDM is shit, no questions. But if that's not the case, then some EDM is good, and groups like /mu/ would have to accept some EDM is good. But then, which ones?
>>71460979
everytime I think of edm fans, I think of the type of people who camp of in front of best buy the night before a new iphone is released.
>>71461045
>edm fans
Well yeah, most EDM is shit. That's of no question. The point is more about the border between EDM and IDM, and how it's not quite clear cut as people might want it to be, and what that means as music listeners (and musicians, for some people on this board, I'm sure).
>>71460979
eventually you realize that a lot idm is no more interesting or innovative than edm and you turn to older dance music traditions because they serve not as hyperbole or subversion but instead as music that doesnt lie to you about what it is.
your obsession with "artistry" belies your naïveté about the liminal space that is the beating heart of dance music. rather than looking for the context in which the lived experience of dance music begins and ends, you're trying to refine a dichotomy that is on both sides tangential to the source material.
you're also ignoring flylo's relationship with the hip hop tradition, and you've demonstrated that you cant adequately analyze his work.
you lead with like the most hackneyed example of EDM possible and really didnt even pose an interesting or even informed question. it's just a bunch of vague gesticulating about two of the most well known electronic acts of the 2000s
Can't stop listening to this but where else do I go from here?

I'm seeing them for the second time in Seattle later this month. I'm so fucking stoked. Their live show is really special. Better than any other metal concert I've been to.
I saw them in Houston a few nights ago. They were fucking amazing.

Made me ridiculously excited to hear the new album, I'm gonna try not to listen to it to keep it fresh.
>>71459226
I literally just came, for entirely unrelated reasons but there's that. Great song too.
I'm stoked that they are premiering new songs at the Sydney Opera House. Saw Sufjan there around the same time last year and now this. Fantastic.
The song was fine, a bit like a less grandiose The Shrine/An Argument. Hope it's not the centrepeice though.

This is the best song this horrible country ever produced.

To me, this defined 2006, most of the fashion is show cased in the video and it has such charm and a beat that everyone enjoyed, and one of the most memorable choruses of the era.
Haha yes. This song brings back good memories.
>>71459006
Good shit man, danced with a lot of skanks to this tune.
>>71459006
I'd say Timbaland in general defined the mid-2000s Pop charts
But for 2006, I'd say this pretty much defined that year, this song was inescapable, everyone still remembers it, and was either very well received by critics and listeners, or deeply hated, there was no in between.
Plus, it's the song that made Justin the megastar he is today
Dave Grohl here guys, ask me anything as long as it's not 'THE BEST' or 'aids' related
