Most good nu-metal albums end up being primarily alternative metal or funk metal, with a hint of nu-metal in them (sometimes none at all and they're just alternative metal that gets called nu-metal). That album being a prime example.

But yeah there's some good nu-metal out there.

I would argue that nu-metal can never be truly patrician not only because it adheres too strictly to musical convention but because it's artistic aspirations are not really that high brow, even if it's more "technical" or "complex" like that Incubus album. Granted, there are definitely good nu-metal albums out there, OP's post being one of them.

never listened to much besides the radio hits during the 90's, but recently stumbled on some guy on youtube uploading tons of old VHS video from the 90's and ended up watching a lot of their live stuff and road antics, like them doing whippits while driving their van

These have been my favorite. Just made a list of my 200 favorite the other day. I'd shout out FKA Twigs - LP1 for being the greatest Alt. R&B of our generation and also Matana Roberts - Coin Coin Ch. 1 for being an absolute emotional and creative avant-jazz masterpiece.
