What are your thoughts on MBV's non-Loveless work?
Loveless is one of my favorite albums but I have a hard time enjoying their other stuff. I like a few songs like You Made Me Realize and All I Need and I respect the aesthetic behind it but it hasn't done much for me. Which of their other EPs should I listen to?

Emperor of Sand is the VH1 version of Through Silver in Blood. Mastodon are not a poorly-done, warmed over Today is the Day or Iron Monkey; Mastodon are the type of lame sing-along lite rock that can otherwise be found on the heavier Motley Crue LPs. The closest comparison I can think of would actually be the speed metal influenced Skid Row – Slave to the Grind but Mastodon have more estrogen in their bloodstream. I bought James Blake's self title on vinyl today. When I put on the first track on LP one, it skips through all of "Unluck." When I put on LP 2, it skips through all of "Limit to Your Love." I tried messing around with the weight of my tone arm and the same problem occurs. Should I consider this one defective?

You probs just need to put more weight on your tone arm. Don't overdo it, but you'd be surprised how much they and the vinyl can take for a fairly insignificant amount of degradation.

The "ideal" weight for my needle is 1.5 to 2.5 grams. It was still doing it at 3 grams. Should I try 3.5? Sorry I'm new to a lot of this.

I usually just put my phone on the thing. Those ideal weights lowball it to fuck because the record conpanies don't want to get blamed if shit goes wrong. It's usually way over conservative, to the point where sound quality is often lost though.
