My gay neighbor is constantly blasting some kind of music that I can only describe as...fag techno dance music. It's very upbeat and distinct sounding. What the proper name for this genre? I'd knock on his door and ask him but I'm too autistic.

it's called house
>>73086553
I think he means Trance
Had this album been more popular, could it have changed hip-hop? I've never heard any songs before that sound like Shadows, Flight of the Navigator, Earth: The Oldest Computer, Zealots of Stockholm, or even 3005.
donald pls go
it was popular as shit though, the only standout is um and its like 2 minutes
>>73086475
3005 was slightly popular, nothing else was.
Gambino didn't have any real musical success till Redbone.
In all seriousness, what kind of atmosphere does the song 420 really capture?

A stall in a mall bathroom with feces smeared all over the walls
You're in a super mall, stoned. The people around you seem alien, but all the commercial products look friendly and inviting. You're caught in a moment of serenity, but something very eerie hangs just over your shoulder.
>muh ironic capitalism
I'm struggling to understand why people enjoy this album so much. So, what makes it so good, /mu/?
>>73086311
I've listened to it a bunch, It's great but it's definitely not GOAT like most fanboys say
I dunno go read one of the thousands of pieces of writing about the album if you're that confused, enough has been said about it already

Ever had an artist or album you were disappointed to find didn't have a lot written about them?
I've written about music professionally and maintain a blog about mostly older music that contains hundreds of various capsule reviews, ratings, and both long- and short-form essays. I don't employ memes or make my own identity a big part of the reviews, which I understand is a turn-off for many.
https://oldnoise.wordpress.com/
I'm open to tackling most things in the realm of at least semi-popular music. In my last thread someone suggested XTC, and I've gotten around halfway with their discography. Another person asked for Fishmans. That's still on the agenda but will take longer for me to digest their music.
Hope you guys enjoy comparing opinions and whatnot :)
Also, most of the reviews are about rock, but I'm open to writing about jazz, country, hip-hop, classical, etc. Jazz and classical especially are tough to write about from a layman's perspective, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

I feel like when I did I had to dig myself to find any information. It's harder when it's a band from a Spanish speaking country, for me at least
>>73086986
Finding info on non-English language artists whose heyday was pre-internet/globalization can be pretty aggravating and in some cases impossible. Sometimes there's message boards and whatnot with apocryphal stories of concert-goers or enthusiasts who had a lot of minor magazine articles from way back when, but rarely anything reputable.

Can I get some quick lists of lo-fi stuff you'd consider essential? I don't think a chart exists. Already have Guided by Voices, Mountain Goats, Pavement, Ween, Sebadoh, Tall Dwarfs, The Microphones, Elliott Smith, Car Seat Headrest and Sparklehorse. What am I missing?
