The hip-hop scene is incredibly boring these days. Nothing big or overwhelming is happening.
Since Kanye left there is some sort of emptiness ...
>>73094586
it's been uninspired since Lauryn Hill and Mos Def where forced to retire desu
Dumb frog poster
>>73094586
Kanye hasn't gone anywhere
So is this worth getting or what? I love the packaging and the extra stuff seems awesome but I'm hearing pretty negative opinions about the stereo remix. Anyone pick up the vinyl or CD boxsets wanna help me be an informed consumer?

IM IN LOVE WITH THE MAN OF THE FUTURE
>>73094485
Why not both.jpg
They're both extremely bland
Why is Djent so hated?
I can't figure out why.
>>73094477
It's just lame overall.
-it has awkward grooves due to its fetishization of complex rhythm structures at the expense of catchiness
-it has an excessively dry and overproduced sound that ends up sounding like a continuous soup of chugs
-it fails to create a strong atmosphere and makes for mediocre moshing music
and the following apply more to other bands than Meshuggah:
-the vocals are either basic grunts or whiny, obnoxious wails that clumsily attempt to sound moving and dramatic but just sound like pop ballad nonsense
-same shit goes for the tacky soft parts, usually boring reverbed solos that are dropped in the middle of the song like a bird shit on your windshield. Really just a lame and shoehorned attempt to make your cawadoody vidya shootan music sound deep and meaningful because reverb=emotion right?
-the lyrics, titles and themes are usually very pretentious, typically a mess of new-agey singularity utopian scifi clichés
-the aesthetic is equally annoying, it's just cheap gradient-heavy desaturated digital minimalism that tries to look grandiose and mysterious and futuristic, but just looks like a graphic design student whipped it up in 15 min tops. It's meaningless, lazy, and not cool. You know, the No Man's Sky aesthetic that says "we're too intellectually advanced to show anything badass on our album covers"
-and generally it markets itself as industrial metal for the thinking man or someshit. Except that it's too clean and gutless to be industrial metal, and that the thinking man is just a pussy who thinks video games should be art.
-generally djent fans act condescending towards the rest of metal; like they think djent is a league apart because it's got jazzy elements or something.
so there you have it. That's pretty much why djent is hated.
>>73094477
It's become a parody of itself (as most metal I would add) and when you've listened to Meshuggah, you don't need to hear anything else djent related.
>>73094740
You sound like an edgy faggot. Complaining about lyrics and vocals when it comes to metal is tomfoolery. If what you said is true Meshuggah would never be as big as they are.
Djent is hated because there are like 4 good bands. And that's stretching it.
What are some life-crushing, awfully sad music facts that make you lose all hope and happiness?
>As Apple's Peter Brown recalled, "it was a poorly kept secret among Beatle intimates that after Ringo left the studio Paul would often dub in the drum tracks himself ... [Starr] would pretend not to notice".
>>73094301
Source?
"According to Australian radio station Triple J, [Curtis] Mayfield recorded his songs by lying on his back, the only way he could get enough air into his lungs, and singing one verse at a time. After every verse for a song had been recorded, they were edited together for the finished, continuous track."
>>73094301
if he was so terrible why did they keep him in the band

i dunno, i still love keep it like a secret but nothing comes close to PFNO
You know what, I'm just going to say it, NEU! despite its supposed influence on numerous artists throughout the 70's and beyond (see CAN, David Bowie, Kraftwerk etc.) is not all its cracked up to be. Not to sound fastidious though I have hyped this album up for years, longing to develop the musical knowledge to appreciate such a spectacle to its fullest capacity only to be let down enormously. The entire album is essentially a 4/4 motorik beat (if that, a third if not almost a half of the length is just silence) with a few tinny synthesizers thrown into the mix, its as if people listened to this and thought like bespectacled children "woooow! dual-panning! I've never heard this before!" before putting pen to paper writing numerous positive reviews for this faux-intellectual imprecation of a "classic album". Let it be known that there is nothing remotely "classic" about this - its just pointless forced-music that refuses to challenge any conventions nor engage the listener. Now that I've said this know that I've listened to the album around 7 times fully through and have tried both NEU! 2 and NEU! 75, both far superior albums in that they actually contain music and not just a series of scattered sound effects that, God knows why, are interpreted as being the voice of percussionist Robert Hooke laying the groundwork for the entirety of the Krautrock scene despite copying the beat straight off of CAN (the CAN meaning that they indeed can form a coherent beat).
Anyhow, your thoughts on this album?
always found it weird that they were considered the same genre as can, they're really nothing alike
>>73094010
You really think that people like Negativland and Hallogallo for their spechul effects? What an over-analysis of two seminal songs.
>>73094061
Well what is there to those songs? They don't really develop of do anything, just a motorik beat with nothing really happening, is that supposed to be enjoyable or something? The entire albums just a soundtrack for being in a traffic jam in late-70's Berlin and having Bowie run up and jump on your car roof before screaming and masturbating incessantly, its just a mess.
Do you think Paul Simon is one of the greatest artists of our lifetime? Why? Why not?
don't need to be coy roy :~)
>>73093937
Yes. His lyrics paint pictures of everyday people like a worn out boxer and a simple drug dealer as precisely and poetic as a norman rockwell painting, showing you the true beauty of everyday life, that we so often cast away or forget about. And his melodies are incredibly complex and abstract hidden behind the guise of simple folk picking.

>>73094044
I honestly prefer his solo stuff ala Graceland (Obviously) and his self titled, but the Garfunkel influence is so beautiful. I often wonder what his south african influenced music would be like had they not had the falling out and Garfunkel went along with Paul.
this is great. any other grime albums worth checking out?

fuck right off

An OK month, let's hope that the next one would be better.
How to make a long solo sound interesting?
I can noodle some interesting intervals and licks, but dont know how to make it sound interesting like an actual solo
It starts at 2:02 after the drum fill and goes by 8 repetitions of the progression
https://clyp.it/2b5nbjhd
Do you have any ideas on it?
Thanks in advance
>>73093733
sounds good anon, would just turn guitar higher in the mix cause i can barely hear it. I would start where you started, and then do some other licks and build it up higher and higher.
get the emotion building up like a crescendo, you know. And then by like a minute in you're just full on jamming
>>73093935
>I would start where you started
b-but theres no guitar solo in there
Post one, two or three 10/10 songs from your country

are these threads some sort of psyops tactic to undermine the culture of everybody's respective countries?
>want to talk about house, techno, breaks, garage, funk, soul, r&b on /mu/

yeah..
just because it's a single driven music scene doesn't mean that there aren't good albums one can discuss.
