Now a sample size of one is hardly enough to go on for a general pattern so I am going to dig deeper to see how common this trend is vs real overpushing of ideas but it is not looking good so far.

Psionics and available supplements. The third edition made psions too powerful, too flexible, and too much of a chaotic mishmash of conflicting systems (kind of like the 5e UA for them). 3.5 fixed that, and also added a lot of new stuff that 3e didn't have.
