Last night I returned home at a rather ungodly hour. I proceeded to eat a slice of cold pizza and stale jalapeno chips before I sauntered off to bed.

Two hours later I was awoken from the most vivid and inspirational dream I have ever had by neighbors loudly Porlocking.I quickly scribbled down as many plot points as I could without my glasses/contacts in pitch black.

Awoke this morning and looked at what I wrote, pic for reference.

Is this my Vision in a Dream? I cant shake how my dreamself knew that I had stumbled on the greatest satire work in centuries.

The dream was somewhat lucid, and revolved around 3 people using ordinary, innocuous sources to inspire massive social change in ancient Acre, the Levant.

What the fuck does any of that half baked drooling even mean

Any of you guys read this?

Any more literature with a theme of tyranny?

Haven't read that, but a few Nabokov stories I just read included Tyranny, namely "Tyrants Destroyed" and "Solus Rex."
>>
>>9175761
Interesting. What are they about?
>>
>>9175765
Solus Rex is strange, I didn't really get it fully, but it is essentially a meandering tale about a king of "Thule," who is a huge degenerate but with eccentricity, who thinks one rules with magic, and it's basically about his downfall.

Tyrants Destroyed is more straightforward. It's basically Nabokov himself venting his anger about Stalin and the Bolshevik takeover of his homeland of Russia, but can easily be read to be about Hitler as well. It's written from the perspective of the tyrant's brother, and all the resentment he habors towards his every move, going into great detail about the temperamental nature of dictators.

Both are about 20 pages and make the claim that tyrants are blockheads preventing high-minded aristocracy

i honestly dont have a problem with reading, when they cut of my internet because of not paying i could read all day, and enjoy it pretty much, but when i write i feel huge disgust toward myself and toward blank page. When i see page full of words, and when i finish work i actually feel some pleasure, and its so nice when you hot into "flow", but its so hard to start. I am crushed by meaninglessness of this act

Try the first few lines of East Coker
>>
>Economics thesis
>people's preference

Stopped reading there. Economics makes assumptions about preferences upon no scientific basis because it has no native tool to predict those preferences or a change in them. That is why economics can only be descriptive rather than predictive in its modeling, and why past a certain level of understanding I consider it to be largely a sport for use in debate and cheerleading until that predictive gap is plugged.

I think reading any kind of fiction now would confuse me at this point. I cannot picture the action that's going on the page. I need my pictures.

Yet I like to read non-fiction like pictured, along with history, science, etc.

Is there something wrong with me? Am I a pleb?

I just finished it last week and was dissapointed as well. It seemed to be touted as a profound book that will wrench at your heart but i never got those feels

it was entertaining and i enjoyed the read dont get me wrong, it just was nothing more than that.
>>
I didn't like Catch-22. After reading Gravity's Rainbow and being caught up in the brilliance of that infernal machine, Catch-22 seemed too staid and sober. I like it when my books are 'on' something, you know. If a book can be described as 'x on [drug],' then I'm pretty much on board immediately. Probably a result of doing lots of drugs and knowing how good a time they can be. Gravity's Rainbow is on acid for sure, and one could argue that many of Pynchon's other books were 'on weed.' Some novels are 'on wine' or 'on whiskey,' but Catch-22 didn't seem to be on anything. This didn't sit right with me, so after I got 100 pages in I had to put it down. Luckily Gravity's Rainbow was nearby (as I always make sure it is), so I opened that up to compare, but the difference was apparent immediately. I serendipitously opened it to the part where the man goes down the toilet, and within seconds of reading I was hooting and hollering and howling as only Pynchon can make ya do.

Hey /lit/

I want to start screenwriting, but I don't know how to write comedy "properly".

Is there a book out there that dissects the nature of humor and explains what people find funny and why?

I don't want to write jokes that will fall flat.

I know Drama; basic story structure ect ect but I dont want to start writing until I learn the innards of humor(because Id rather know how to write something funny before I start trying to write something funny. Because comedies make made dosh)

So, someone please tell me about some book that takes a critical and methodological look at comedy.

>tl,dr

I dont think what I think is funny is actually funny to the majority of people, so please give me a book that reveals why funny things are funny.

Yes, but how?

How do I recognize the prime time for a joke?

How do I construct a joke?

How long should a joke go for?

Are there different types of jokes?

If so, what? Are there any vital components in jokes that make them "jokes"?

How many jokes per minute is too many?

Is there a pacing that must be applied to jokes?

What?
Who?
Where?
How?
Why?

I need answers. I want and need to go full autism to learn the secrets of comedy so I can make mad dosh by pumping out screenplays so I dont have to scrub toilets any more.

Not a book. But this video dissects some of the "funniest" scenes in movies and explains why they are funny. And psychologically explains why people laugh at them.

So philosophy (and probably literature too) just turns into useless theoretical bullshit when it doesn't have to build anything for a market, when it doesn't have to deal with customers and face the kind of rejection that people who have to deal with a market does.

Most philosophers and writers are just useless leeches who run to the government scooping money out of my people's kid's brains.
Molyneux is one of the greatest western philosophers for this reason, he provides something of value, he deals with a market. Molyneux follows the ethical principles of his own philosophy instead of putting his pasty, pale hand into peoples pockets.
