Do any actual historians listen to this guy? Or is his audience just video game playing manchildren who think that history = wars? Is that why he's so popular on this board?
why are you so mad at some guy who can't stop repeating he's not a historian and he does an entertainment show first and foremost?
>>1253827
I'm just curious whether he has any credibility outside of 4chan. I've never heard anyone mention him offline but I've heard actual historians talk about John Green's history videos in a positive way.

It's the latter. Carlin is a joke.

You're doing it right. The moment you start hurting anyone it must stop.
What is the most important non-religious book ever written?
>>1264858
Depends on what society you ask.
>Journey to the West
While spiritual, not entirely 'religious'.
>The Iliad
Basis of western entertainment
>Gilgamesh
Not a book, but still extremely important
>Art of War
Need no explanation
Sure there are many more, but these could be considered the staple of the non-religious human canon.
>>1264858
Don Quijote
>>1264858
Also sprach Zarathustra will be the bible of the future superman.
As of now I would say either the Iliad or Plato's Republic
I know that some pretty evil ideologies like fascist and colonialism existed in the past, but was there any evil religion that done more harm than a good?

Hey. So I've played CK2 and Victoria2 a lot, and tried a few other paradox games. Are there any other good his-related games? Not necessarily as immersive as these, just games that transport you to a different, historically accurate era.

It is a British attempt to divide Europe and further its own global presence.
We can all agree that there's no such thing as randomness, only inquantifiable fluctuations that follow logical processes that can cause drastically different outcomes under even slightly different conditions (the butterfly effect/chaos theory)
So if there's no such thing as true randomness and only psuedo-randomness, then how would you explain being born as a particular person at a particular time? In other words, why are you you? Why are you here in the 21st century as a (probably) first-worlder with internet access and not some 2nd century peasant? Or even within the same century, why aren't you some poor African child infected with AIDS doomed to die at a young ge without ever seeing the world? If it's the result of a perfect particular brain composition that results in "you" then theoretically reincarnatiom should be possible by having someone at a different point in time have the same exact brain composition as you.
However, this itself creates another question of why "you" are a particular consciousness. Furthermore, this would mean that "you" could be two different people at once, if there was hypothetically a perfect clone of you.
If there is nothing random in the world then there has to be a reason, intentional or not (but nonetheless only psuedorandom) as to why you are who you are, and why I am who I am.
So what could that reason be if not chance, which does not exist? There seems to be no logical explanation for it as far I'm aware.

>So what could that reason be if not chance, which does not exist? There seems to be no logical explanation for it as far I'm aware.
Quite simply put, you are an idiot. You are applying human semantics to the universal order, doesn't work like that. For instance there is literally no chance in this carnation that I be born elsewhere as I was born here. It's more a form of 'destiny' than 'chance'. I mean you said it yourself (Chaos Theory), if you give a universe the exact same 'event's as this universe then I will be born at the exact same relative time and do all the exact same things I did in this life.
They do exist within human perception, which is quantifiable
Without competition, what would be the major spur for innovation?
Suppose you have communism, and you make a car. What's the incentive to ever improve on it and not just keep doing things the same way over and over again? I'm not saying there would be no advancement, there obviously would be because it would interest people, but the incentive would be drastically reduced. The incentive for advancement in the USSR was competing with Western capitalism, after all.

>Diogenes was asked why he thought it was that people gave charity to cripples and beggars but not readily to him. “Was it an indication, perhaps, that he should get an honest job?” “No,” said Diogenes, “All men fear that they might become blind, crippled or poor some day, so they give in hopes that others will give. Yet no one ever worries that some day he’ll wake up and find he’s a philosopher.”
Who here is a philosophy major?
Joint in phil and linguistics. Diogenes is more of a character than a historical philosopher. Socrates as well. Not as if that matters or anything, I just find idolatry of him similar to that of a comic book hero.

So you're saying you don't worry that some day you'll wake up and find you're a philosopher because Diogenes is made up?
