Tell me about eunuchs, /his/. They were a mainstay of pretty much every oriental royal court from the ERE to China, from the depths of antiquity to the end of Imperial China and the Ottoman Empire. Every time I read about something in that very broad range, I see that the primary sources complain about the influence of the perfidious and manipulative eunuchs on the king, and implying or stating that the general populace/nobility agrees that that's terrible and needs to be stopped.

If this was such a popular cultural view, why did it go on for so long everywhere? Sometimes a new ruler would banish the eunuchs from palace service, but they would always be brought back later on. Very rarely do contemporaries have anything positive to say about eunuchs, I can only guess that in fact hatred of eunuchs wasn't the general view, and a shitload of historians were just butthurt and jealous that they themselves weren't in those high positions, or that many, many, many kings were just deathly afraid of cuckolding.

>butthurt and jealous that they themselves weren't in those high positions
This is basically it. The entire point of a Eunuch is that they are entirely dependent upon the monarch for survival. They're weird testicleless (or even cockless) sissy men who are too smart for their own good, they'd at best starve to death without a patron. If you're someone who is
>deathly afraid of cuckolding
both in the literal and metaphorical (I built this kingdom and now some cumstain's family is ruling it?!) sense, why WOULDN'T you?

Sure, sometimes you need to toss the cockless dweebs out because they broke the rules, but there are literally zero downsides to having a team of impotent dorks running the show. If the current ones screw up, toss 'em out and get new ones.
>>
When they live and eat in a palace where princesses might dwell without the requisite blue blood, and you don't, you probably hate them.

When the propaganda doesn't want to put the blame on the king or his family, you have to find somebody else.
>>

>the general populace/nobility agrees that that's terrible and needs to be stopped.

It's simple. If the king has non-eunuch counselors from the nobility, they'll try to manipulate him for their own interest, so they can take over. A eunuch can't do that, he can't found a dynasty, so the king has nothing to fear.

Of course the nobles disliked that.

>many, many kings were just deathly afraid of cuckolding.

No, I doubt any kings were. They had harems of women, I don't even think they cared. I think castration was used to prevent plotting - if you have no descendants, you have nobody to hand down your possessions/power to.

If you think it was fear of cuckolding, you'd have to find me a "court eunuch" who became "court eunuch" AFTER he had a child.

So are Kurds descended from the medians and Sumerians as they claim? Redpill me on their origins. I know they speak an Iranic language.

>>
One Kurd told me that they have Scythian blood but I doubt this.
>>
>>1552332
Kurds are (were) nomads so it is doubtful they are descended from the Medes, who were a settled people.

Other than some 'Sumerian' admixture due to living in what used to be Mesopotamia theres nothing to connect them to Sumerians. And even then, they don't really inhabit Mesopotamia proper.

>>1552357
Scythians existed to the North, theres no reason to believe the Kurds lived there at any point.

Kurds are just opportunistic parasites.
>>
>>1552332
This proposed by one theorist in the 19th century and proven false. They have always been nomads and are just ashamed of this.

Have you reached the conclussion that the only purpose in life is to continuously strife to be greater? In that case, what are you doing to accomplish this?

>me, 19
>time to get serious and start living a decent life already
>going to the gym and dieting
>reading history and science (college level, not dumb divulgation ones) books to gain a general knowledge of the world
>studying computer science even on vacation because I love it and I'm planning on becoming a great professional
>gradually eliminating all fiction and games for my life as I consider them a waste of time, besides a few god-tier examples: top level novels and go (the board game) atm
>regularly going out with friends and gf, and trying to put me in positions where I meet new people
>trying to inspire friends to stop being lazy as fuck and pursue their dreams (for example giving them "homework": paint me a drawing like this, write me a short novel in this genre etc)

That's all for now but I'm considering a few other things, like trying to use my current skills (in programming for example) to make tools or art that me and other people may appreciate.

How bout u?

It's not a bad thing to do, and it's good to keep active and all when you're 19, but eventually you have to acknowledge that greatness is a meaningless concept and you have to figure out for yourself what it actually means to you - going by the judgment and values of other people is a waste of time and energy. The more time you spend doing this, the more you realize how many of 'your' values aren't actually yours. Then the fun begins. It could entail some sort of crisis but it's actually very meaningful to figure out your values in the relative absence of external social input, it gives you a lot of freedom. It could actually mean interacting with people and all, it's just a lot different than feeling pressured to do so, which I take it you're doing right now, what with all those aesthetics and dumb tier rankings. And please don't try to pressure your friends with your ideas of "inspiration" unless they really want you to.
>>
>>1552310
I never said the greatness I pursue is absolute, nor defined by the expectations of other people. I just spent a long time thinking where my life was going, then simply reflected upon the qualities of people I admire, and decided I would try to be that.

To me greatness means qualities I admire in other people, and I find satisfaction in having myself. For example, I decided that it didn't make sense to me to live a full life in this world, and not gaing a pretty good idea of how it works and how it's been in the past. Hence I decided to get a general grasp of the history of pretty much the entire world (I'm starting with Japan, then I'll move on to ancient civilizations in the fertile crescent) and a pretty decent knowledge of science (physics up to relativity and quantum mechanics, don't need to be an expert to be happy but at least get a general idea of how it goes. The I'll probably move on to more specific scientific fields that I like).

I don't think all of this is "useful" or "valued" by other people especially. I just think it is great. It makes sense to know this things, or rather, it doesn't make sense not to know them. I greatly admire people who do.
>>
>>1552273
You're misguided. You're making a point out of doing everything "correctly" but to what end? Explain to us why greatness is worth obtaining and why what you are doing will make you great.

Oh and give your friends a bloody break, they don't need your godly all-enlightened shepherding to live their lives.

>Confucius was wrong
5 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1552248
Regardless of how right or wrong he was he is of interest to the general historian due to the massive direct real world influence he had on Chinese politics and society for a big chunk of history.

But since that isn't the point of the thread, what was Confucius right about?
>>
>>1552248
Wrong about what? I think Confucianism is almost natural for China, they have a large population with little meaning to the individual and an emperor that has to rule those millions of people.

I have a genealogical chart of British royalty, and these are the coats of arms it displays for the last 4 monarchs.

I've done a quick search online for other references to these, but can't find anything. Are these fabricated, or just obscure?

How did somebody enter the Soviet government?

How did you "rise up the ranks"?
46 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
>>1552016
>How did somebody enter the Soviet government?
You had to make sure a few members consider you an "outsnading" citizen.
Then, you had to pay a monthly payment for a few years.
Afterwards, you would be accepted into the party.
>How did you "rise up the ranks"?
By kissing asses and licking boots. Mostly.
>>
>>1552016
Your jorney starts in school, where you have to participate in one of "pioneers" child organisatons Basically, those were Soviet Hitlerungends. You must show complete enthusiasm, participate in "pioneers" activities, pissing out your classmates, go to shitty summer camps( which was designed like prisons) and spread Soviet propaganda among the others. Then, you go to a "komsomol" organisation, which is more serious than "pioneers". In, there, you go completely like >>1552085 have said. If you are good asslicker, you have good recomendations and after you turn 18 years old, you can move forward, and become Party member. To become a governor, you have to dedicate your life to administration activity: spying on your surranding, spreading propaganda, etc. and, if you are lucky and smooth enough, you may eventually find yourself on the top of pyramid.
>>
To enter the government, you had to be accepted into the Communist Party, and to do that, you had to meet the Party's criteria for membership.

As >>1552085 pointed out, the Party looked for "outstanding" citizens, those who demonstrated adherence to Soviet ideals. Having nice connections, being skilled at ass-kissing, or being a member of state youth organizations, like the Young Pioneers or the Komsomol, certainly didn't hurt.

On the other hand, having a history of dissent or even a family member labeled as "an enemy of the people" would likely leave a bad mark on your application.

History of writing in SE Asia.

Can someone enlighten me on the Balinese and Javanese script? I know they both originate from Kawi which was written for the old javanese language and Malay, but is Javanese or Balinese closer to the original Kawi script?

I suspect Javanese might have some Arabic calligraphic influence

Brahmi script.
>>
>>1552077
To expand on this, brahmi script was spread via Indian influence. Everywhere Buddhism/Hinduism went, you see the brahmi language origin popup. That means places like South East asia, East Asia, Central Asia, and South Asia. The more direct the Hindu/Buddhist influence from India, the more closely it will resemble the brahmi script. The Korean Hangul has origins in Brahmi via the Brahmi->Tibetan->Phagpas(mongol)->Hangul route. Even the modern Japanese language has links to Brahmi script via the vowel orders. I think that implementation was done during the introduction of Buddhism from China.
>>
>>1552309
One more thing, Hangul isn't only brahmi influence, its influenced by classic chinese as well as other things in mind, its a language created around 15th century or so

How would history be different if he had taken control?
45 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
Hard to say, but I'm inclined to think he would be as ruthless as Stalin, partly because WW2 would inevitably happen.
>>
>>1551963
Stalin's most ruthless period was in the early 30s. How does this connect to WW2?
>>
WWII would either end in an american-german stalemate or the domination of either power, since Trotsky would have failed to industrialize as successfully as stalin.

He also might have caused a collapse even before that, considering the only way he could have gotten into power was a coup d'etat since he was supported by nobody in the party outside his sect. Stalin got the position he got because he represented the majority vote in the party congress, a fact that Trots are all too quick to dismiss.

And honestly, Trots calling Stalin brutal is an oxymoron, you only have to look at Trotskies historical actions while he was still politically relevant.

The "Special relationship" came out of WW2 although relations between the countries were fairly amiable after The War of 1812 though they had a commercial & maritime rivalry. The two countries had an open diplomatic relationship and resolved numerous disputes through arbitration which speaks to their cooperation.
