just open design mode, start from a totally blank pane and split and resize as needed.
its split left and right, left for album art, then the right is split top and bottom, and the top right is split into thirds for the controls, with the bottom for tabbed playlists. Then everything is just resized
I wanted the QT gui because it lets me hide the top menu.

Does your OpenBox only have 1 workspace/screen/virtual desktop?
You can configure awesome to be floating on one screen and tiling on the other.

Also, I haven't tried i3 so I can't comment, but I just started using awesome and it seems fine.
So why not? and why not as your daily driver? seems fine for me.

>why not?
Aversion to how cramped things seem to get when I tile them myself in my floating WMs.
>why not as your daily driver?
I like to test things out before adopting them. Im setting up the openbox system IM gonna use on a testing laptop before putting it on my main one, for example.

Plus, I dont want to learn how to tiling WM right now, maybe over some vacation I will, but not now.

I'm on a 27" 1080 monitor, just swap to the fucking world of CLI, it's so much better.
Also I can adjust windows on the fly when it needs to be floating, I just have to hold an extra key down

>>57297188
I meant why i3 and not awesome?

Also I haven't configured jack shit, running on the stock/out-of-box config, just look up a cheat sheet and rice it when you can be fucked.

Also it's all basically Windows + Vim keys:

Windows + J/ to select
Windows + Shift + J/K to move it around

Windows + 1 to move to different screens
Windows + Shift + 1 to move selected window to different screens

Win+Shift+H/L to adjust size etc

That's all you need to know, maybe how to close windows and run commands (Win+Shift+C and Win+R)

It's not really that hard and you're both just fucking retarded. I'd suggest installing it along side whatever you want and trying it out when possible.

Unity is ubuntus desktop enviornment
a desktop enviornment is a desktop GUI, like the windows shell.
There are a number of different desktop enviornments
LXDE and XFCE are extremely fast and light
KDE Is big and heavy and fancy and configurable through its gui and settings
GNOME is retarded
MATE Is gnome before it got retarded
Cinnamon is I dont know, I guess it looks good though. I hear its like windows sorta.
Ubuntu has flavors(distributions of it that come with different desktop enviornments) for LXDE, XFCE, KDE(its version of kde is buggy and broken), Gnome, Mate, and im not sure about cinnamon.
Most distros come with a desktop enviornment or let you choose what desktop enviornment you want at install.

No, vanilla Ubuntu is the closest thing you can get to "just werk" out of the box, listen to >>57298126 and use Ubuntu MATE (for the MATE Desktop)
Read the Ubuntu section on the wiki at least to see why
Also the counterargument is that you might have a harder time following guides if it's not vanilla Ubuntu, since you may need to change things because you're using a different DE

Because you don't have enough replies.

Unity is special. It doesn't have a classic start menu but instead a "dash". That said, it's not hard. You just type "editor" and it shows you all programs related to editing.
The other significant thing is that all toolbars are unified into one. So, if you have your text editor selected, the bar shows File Edit etc for the text editor, if you have firefox selected, it's the firefox toolbar.
Both is intuitiv, you learn it in 10 seconds. If not, go with Cinnamon or Mate.

What Archfags actually believe:

>Simplicity

>Arch Linux defines simplicity as without unnecessary additions or modifications.

>User centrality

>Whereas many GNU/Linux distributions attempt to be more user-friendly, Arch Linux has always been, and shall always remain user-centric.

The reality:

>It has never been a minimalist distribution. Splitting packages is rare

>Arch has *never* been minimalist... a Linux kernel with every module
>available and every feature enabled at least when there's no non-bloat
>related cost, feature-packed/complex GNU tools, nearly all optional
>features enabled across all the packages, etc.

> [...]

>Community memes don't define the distribution, technical choices by the
>developers do. It's clearly not based on what you say it is, and *never*
>has been. It has always used significantly more disk space and a

It's a distro that doesn't hold your hand and gives you full control because it expects you to know what you're doing. Most of the packages on slackbuilds.org have only a few dependencies you need to install that isn't in the repos save for the occasional edge case.

I can understand talking about bloat when opting to use a WM or xfce instead of KDE or gnome.
I dont understand it when talking about saving kilobytes of space or memory or whatever
I suppose 'larger attack surface for bugs and stuff' is an argument but I cant see how such dedicated attacks against you individually are realistically a part of the threat model of most people who say this, as opposed to some service they use getting hacked and dragnet mass spying, it seems irrelevant if you're not a bank or wanted by the government or storing peoples passwords or something.
Are people posting from antique hardware at their university? Or from their IOT refridgerator? Is there a hardcore military bad-dude posting from the linux on his sniper rifle?
lets talk about this without descending into calling each other autistic and retarded.

Arch is a good, convenient distro. People just need to stop with the "enjoy your bloat" and "KISS/UNIX philosophy" memes, since Arch simply isn't simple or lightweight. I guess the problem are all the newcomers who want to fell 1337 but Gentoo is too hard so they get Arch and need to tell EVERYONE and all others suck.

Should I go with Debian via Crouton or try my luck with Arch via Chroagh?

Windows/NT is Windows.
OS X/Xnu is OS X.
Android/Linux is Android.
GNU/Linux is GNU.

No need to meantion the kernel.
>>
>>57298672
No, you can run as little or as much as you like on both
the actual argument from the wiki against slack though:

>There is no formal issue tracking system and no official procedure to become a code contributor or developer. The project does not maintain a public code repository. Bug reports and contributions, while being essential to the project, are managed in an informal way. All the final decisions about what is going to be included in a Slackware release strictly remain with Slackware's benevolent dictator for life, Patrick Volkerding.

Yeah, that was a concern that it would be too tedious. But once you have things setup it probably isn't an issue. Looks like it would teach me a lot and also be a very solid distro.

Would it work well on a 6 year old dell laptop with 2gb ram? Otherwise I would need to use one of my newer laptops which is my only windows machine.

But GNU made the OS 10 years before Linux was even a thing. There are variants with kFreeBSD added, with HURD added and with Linux added. Why changing the name to one of these kernels? People who use for example Parabola/kFreeBSD surely don't want to refer to their OS as Linux.

You may not like Debian but it is one of the oldest distributions with one of the biggest communities, it has the most derivatives, supports the most architectures and is overall one of the most important free software projects and it isn't backed by a company like Red Hat or SuSE, everything is done by volunteers. Not saying KDE, WINE or anyone else don't deserve donations obviously, everyone that uses or helps people use Linux is contributing.

this is no different on windows, very old programs made for their eras UI clash and look dated. Ive not seen it as much here on linux, but it didnt bother me on windows anyway
>it looks awful (right out the box)
This depends on the DE and whether your distro sets it up to look alright for you on install or not. I havnt used
KDE5 looks nicer as it comes default than modern windows I think, and every other desktop I've tried on ubuntu or antergos looks either as good or a bit better out of the box.
This is in contrast to, out of the distros I've tried, debian or void, which ship the DE mostly unchanged, and XFCE comes looking disgusting, and Mate kinda shit.

But, the ease of customizing and changing the look substantially makes that easy to fix. Just changing the color scheme and window theme from the settings manager and downloading an icons pack, and it looks fine, if no better than other modern desktops.

I'm not scared about compiling, I'd just be botherd by the lost time by compiling literally everything when I just really NEED 5-6 custom packages. It's not like other distros would deny creating custom packages, so I go with Arch and if I need a custom package, I compile it with my custom flags myself. What is best torrent client in your opinion anons?
I want something with gui, no rtorent etc

>im using qbit and it sucks dick
>works fine when there are few torrents, but when i have 100+, it starts crashing
>download speed is shit, not because of my internet, not because of seed

So it would be unwise to try this distro?

I have roughly 2000 and it never crashes for me. I would check your settings because this sounds pretty suspect as well:
>download speed is shit, not because of my internet, not because of seed
>>

What should i check in settings?
Only thing i changed is how much torrents it can download/seed in same time and i changed language.

Best oh-my-zsh theme that uses %?
>>

this is actually one of the only legitimate concerns i've heard about slackware, for the most part software comes from upstream and isn't that difficult to make packages from, but there needs to be more of a developer community and security/bug reporting for the official releases. Linux in general needs more developers with good ideas, not just more "apps".

>oh-my-zsh
Jesus christ. Guys, please stop with the memes.
>>
>>57300689
Are you using an up to date version?
Does it make your internet slow even when not downloading?
>>
>>57300605
It probably doesn't even exist so what exactly are you going to try?

is /g/ seriously shilling against LFS now? Its purpose is literally to build a distro from the ground up, if you don't want to, don't do it?
>>
>>57300710
>latest version

If im downloading something and download limit is 50% of my speed, internet on my laptop works fine, but other computers are like dial up.
>>
>>57300690
Are you using Arch Linux? Just curious. :^)
>>

I'm using Mint. What's wrong with oh-my-zsh?
>>
>>57300739
You should try lowering the max half open connections, something like 15, in options>advanced.

Also drop the global max number of connections to something like 100 and the connections per torrent. If that makes a difference then raise it until you notice it chocking again.
>>
>>57300787

It's worse than I thought.

When did you change them, just now?
If you can try restarting your router after making the change.
Maybe hit up the qbittorrent forum for help if it's still the same, it's your setup, not the client. If other client work better then it's probably just different settings which happen to suit your particular hardware/connection.
>>
>>57300724
Learned now. Should I still be using zsh and just uninstall oh-my-zsh?
