It's not that hard to remove systemd from arch or debian because they are quite modular. However there are many other packages that will pull in systemd or have systemd code. The only way to escape systemd on linux is to install gentoo and set the use flag "-systemd" and blacklist systemd and udev. (Dont set the -udev flag tho because then programs wont be able to use gentoo's udev replacemnt called eudev)

No, gentoo is the only way to escape from systemd because many binaries contain systemd code and gentoo is the only distro in which you can remove that code. Also those distros you mention have significant flaws. Devuan hasn't been updated in a year and Slackware has no package manager.

>gentoo needs days to install
Gentoo took me like 4 hours the first time I installed it, but that was because I was installing it on exotic hardware. The second time it took me under an hour. Most of the install process is just copy and pasting commands.
>gentoo needs months to get security updates
Only if your running on stable packages, but thats the same for any other stable distro except debian.
>gentoo needs hours to update
Only once in a while there's a large update that takes an hour to install. But most updates only take 15 minutes because they consist of small packages. Anyway, you can still shitpost on /g/ while its compiling, it doesn't noticeably slow down your computer, especially if you set emerge as a low priority process.

It is. They have some packages that are maintained without systemd dependencies as well.

I think, besides the forked-with-no-systemd-dependencies-packages and the blacklisted stuff, it just mirrors the current Debian repositories. But their site is vague and half-finished, so I'm not 100% on that

They're paranoid because, despite being free software, they claim that it's SO large and SO complicated that the developers will secretly add in a backdoor that goes undetected.

They also claim that since Red Hat employs Lennart (the creator/maintainer of systemd), and since Red Hat has worked with the NSA in the past, that the NSA has its hands in systemd.

just that I have absolutely no reason to change my rc scripts, Its one of those things where yes there are good ideas in it, but then it grows to do things it really has no business doing (my two cents), basically i perfer some level of compartmentalization so just in case theres a vulnerability in one service you don't sacrifice the whole OS. Its not truly fair to compare it to a kernel, once you hit user space you should have some options, and its not quite matured enough for me from that standpoint either.

No, the linux kernel is modular, you can remove many parts from the linux kernel and make it as minimal as possible. It's just that most distros ship the kernel with all the modules installed for compatibility. However, systemd does not have this same modularity, systemd will not function without having all of it's components.

mc is good, XFE is nice as well if you want graphical, Gentoo is ugly as balls but pretty functional, Krusader is nice but you have to install all the KDE libs and it's pretty heavy on resources. Thunar is the best if you don't care about double panel and want something more like the default windows file manager, it's also good because it can give you previews on images for easy image picking when posting here.

So clearly this is saying there's a big problem (it's at 730K errors as I type this) but I'm a little concerned that it's saying my RAM is 0 MHz DDR3 (it's 3000MHz DDR4).
