stallman is an egoist in denial, afraid of admitting that he just wants some fucking source code instead of a world where he has to rely on other people because he knows he wouldn't get it that way.

Free software has a lot of good things to offer, proprietary software has the highest performing drivers, and makes hardware interactions faster than free software. Fuck philosophy, we live in a world of pure bloat and uneeded and redundant features. Everything sucks. I strongly approve of FLOSS, but I also believe in using what's best for the job. I don't see a problem with developers being able to sell software, and it can create many awesome things. It's not required to only have things one way. While I think FLOSS for everything sounds great, I don't like the idea of disposing of some of the great stuff I've seen developers do. It just doesn't seem right.

100% agreed.

You're using proprietary imageboard software.

I quite like Okulus, it's got the core functionality.

I don't think there's a middle-ground between light-weight only reads PDFs and PDFbotnetOS-AlsoCanOrderPizzas-bloatware.

Foxit used to be the goto pdf reader in windows to avoid bloat but those days are long gone and it's almost as bad as adobe now.

I just reinstalled windows for gaming and I'm probably going to try and find a port of Okulus for it.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

dependencies=$(ldd ubuntu12_32/*.so | grep "not found" | sed "s|\s\(lib.*\) => not found|\1 |" | sort | uniq)

echo "Creating symlinks for: $dependencies"

for i in $dependencies
do
object=$(locate $i | grep "$i\$" | grep "i386\|ubuntu12_32" | grep -v "x86_64")
object=($object)
if [ -z ${object[0]} ]; then

The easiest method would be reinstalling, since the installer would do all the work for you.

There is no efficient method, that I know. All you can do is move everything off, wipe, encrypt, move back etc, or similar plans. I've done this before.

LOOK AT ME
I NEED HELP

I'm trying to run a ruby script by using a shebang instead of manually calling the ruby interpreter and using the script file as an argument.

Anyways, the shebang that I am using is
#!/usr/bin/env ruby

I have verified that this path points to the ruby interpreter. I have changed the file permissions to make the script executable. The problem is that when the ruby script is run, it throws many errors.
After fighting this for a while, I started to get a feeling that it was calling the bash interpreter instead of the ruby interpreter. So I wrote this as a test:
#!/usr/bin/env ruby

echo "If this works, I'll scream"
ls

This script runs fine, meaning that the shebang is referring the script to the bash interpreter instead of the ruby interpreter. I'm so confused. Does anyone here know what's going on?

This shows that it is not just an error with the standard library, but even the keywords of the language are undefined.

Lighter in that it has less gloss?

What does more traditional mean?

Before moving to Cinnamon, I used KDE so my tolerance for heavy desktop environments is probably pretty high. I moved from KDE because I was sick of shit crashing all the time. Even Unity gave me exceptions on every third boot on a clean install

>>
>>57258827
MATE, Cinnamon and Unity were all born from the GNOME 2 to GNOME 3 transition, they just took different approaches.

MATE forked GNOME 2 and keep working on it, Cinnamon forked GNOME 3 but made it more like GNOME 2 and Unity, which was something that Canonical was already working on at the time for the Ubuntu Netbook Edition, replaced GNOME Shell in Ubuntu. At around the same time Xfce and some WM (Openbox for example) also gained some popularity.

I'm trying to set up a dev box so I can play around with Elixir. Elixir's website recommends adding the Erlang Solutions repo and installing Erlang from there, but there's also an Erlang package just on the default Ubuntu repo. Except for drawing perfect frames and offering a smooth window experience. That's just one of the most noticeable things for an user. I'm pretty sure there are other technical benefits.

Yes, a handful developed since the past few years once it hit a stable version. For how many years has X11 been around?

So far only one person has called me that and I don't consider myself a Luddite, since you're on 4chan I assume you've been called a retard many times, do you believe yourself to be a retard?

Anyway my original argument was that while X is shit and obviously needs to be replaced and Wayland is a great opportunity to replace X with something good, the Wayland developers simply refuse to add functionality to the core protocol that is absolutely essential, like global hotkeys, global color change (things like redshift or stuff for color-blind people), etc. This will basically mean that, just like X, there will need to be additions to the protocol later on, so Wayland will be X v2.0 with a lack-luster core protocol and a bunch of shit patched up together to get the functionality that it requires.

By convention variables are lowercase because environment variables are uppercase, it makes it easier to distinguish between them and also means you will never overwrite an environment variable.
>>
>>57267238
Uppercase variables are mostly used by the environment (type env for example to see which variables are currently set). To make sure you don't accidently overwrite such vars, it's a good idea to make lowercase variables a good habit.

I've switched back to Adobe.

>>57267744
No. Gentoo is a meme. If you want a custom package, compile it on Debian.

some bios support it; some don't. (Samsung Foxcon uefi often does)
if your main focus is not damaging windows bootloader and bios doesn't support

>physically move windows harddrive to sata slot 2 (sdb) on mobo
>put linux drive in sata slot 1 (sda)
>install grub on /dev/sda mbr
>grub chainload /dev/sdb

i used to do this in windows 7 but maybe it doesn't work anymore
>>
>>57267786
I meant after reading the wiki I still do not understand. Why can I boot livecd directly while I cannot boot any linux on a separate hard drive?
>>
>>57267887
Then you didnt read well enough, you didnt google your problems and found a result to them, to then move on to the next stage.

>if your main focus is not damaging windows bootloader
This is exactly why I want to set it up this way. But I guess I just need to try it as it seems like it's not a very popular configuration.

I'm obviously out of the loop

I have Elementary on my desktop and I like it for the most part.

My 4 y/o Latitude + ssd is sitting here waiting for an install. Any reason I shouldn't just use Elementary?

I need help to kill

I wanted to know the free space on one of my pi, so I used the df command
for an unknow reason, df got stuck. ctrl+c didn't stop the process, so I just closed the bash. and tried again, same shit.

Now, I have two immortal df process running, eating two wholes CPU cores. Pic related is htop.

'sudo kill 28240 28479' did nothing
sudo kill -9 ... neither.

plz halp, I dont want to reboot (this is on a orange pee """""server""""" that sometime don't success boot, and i'm not at home this week)
>>
>>57268001
pkill df
>>
>>57268001
I'd have more worries than a failed reboot

Guys I'm trying to build something on Arch but I'm getting this error and I have no idea how to fix it. I don't think I'm missing any dependencies

/usr/bin/ld: CMakeFiles/nheqminer.dir/main.cpp.o: undefined reference to symbol 'pthread_rwlock_wrlock@@GLIBC_2.2.5'
/usr/lib/libpthread.so.0: error adding symbols: DSO missing from command line
>>
>>57268024
df is still here
no error message printed

>>57268110
I thinks it's because I mounted a FTP that don't exist anymore
now I cant umount the FTP folder because "target is busy", probably because of df :(
>>
>>57268168
Knowing what program it is, would help.
Did you check if the package is available?
Why are you doing this outside of pacman?
>>
>>57268192
Outside of pacman, it's a miner.

stable, though sometimes outdated? Debian.
up-to-day, but sometimes using experimental patches that break stuff? Fedora.

you sure? they've been keeping things in the testing branch a little longer than they used to.
>>

one of them is a mactoddler that pretends to use OpenBSD (only for occasional web browsing). Having no packages don't bother him that way. (pic rel)
the other one is a cuckpad autist who pretends that FreeBSD has better support for the hardware of his laptop than Linux and windows combined

Yup I recognize the OpenBSD guy.
