That's not limited to comicbook movies though, that's most opinions on the internet in general. It's because people like to use hyperbole to emphasize their points, and because "fence-sitting" is pretty much the easiest position to attack in an argument if you're not going to actually develop your position.

Movie was a solid 8/10 I'd say, at least I liked it for a variety of reasons.

I think the flashbacks hurt it. It was great fun in the present day but fuck the flashbacks dragged it down. And the relationship with Inara felt artificial, like real people don't meet and talk like that. Also what the fuck were Francis' powers anyway?

there's no special secret reason people like cartoons, there are a bunch of reasons why people might like cartoons
as kids, we were attracted to cartoons because they were brightly colored and often contained humor/plot that we were interested in and can follow
when you're older, there are less cartoons that feature things you might enjoy like romance/drama if you're older than 12 years old and there are also more things you can do as you grow older
people don't actually give up cartoons when they age, they just focus on other things that they like for different reasons

there's nothing about the idea or the fact that something is animated that draws people in unless they are interested in either the art or the animation itself

Cartoons are simple and easy to understand visually.
Plus you can do things in cartoons that could never be done in live action.

To a child, cartoons are the closest thing to magic in the real world.
I mean, that's how it was for me.
