Same reason why musicians are always depressed. Their art serves as an outlet for releasing their inner frustrations and escaping the real world.

So what's the deal with this guy? Some kind of long lost relic from comics' past that Marvel got a hold of? Any /co/ recommended?

Miracleman started out as Marvelman, an old UK comics character "inspired" by Captain Marvel (Fawcett Comics' Cap Marvel, now called Shazam). "Inspired" meaning "tremendously ripped-off." He had everything that Billy had, from the magic word that turned him into a hero to the extended family of Kids and Juniors.
Then, in the 80s, Alan Moore reimagined him for an anthology called Warrior, giving him a new gritty, introspective, compelling story. It was later reprinted for the US as MiracleMan for legal reasons and after Moore left the strip, Neil Gaiman jumped in to continue it. But then it got tangled into a major legal quagmire involving Gaiman, Todd McFarlane, Image Comics and a bunch of other players. After a lot of back and forth Marvel finally cleared out all the legal issues and are able to reprint it, although on Moore's request they have erased his name from the book and sent all the royalties to the family of MarvelMan's original writer/artist.
Anyway, it's good stuff. Anything by Alan Moore (or as Marvel has it, "The Original Writer") and Gaiman is good.

>Captain Marvel was published in the UK until 1954 (Fawcett died in 53).
>Bongs Reinvent the character as marvelman, it's porpular for a long time
>It's cancelled eventually
>Grittyreboot under moore
>Character has to be renamed "miracleman" since Marvel could sue, and they wanted to publish in Murrika
>Moore leaves and cockblock morrison from taking over
>Gaiman Continues the series and has some of the rights
Series is infinished

>mcfarlane get hold on some rights
>Gaiman fights him
>mcfarlane tries to push for "man of miracles" a new reborn concept, but he still want the character
>marvel offers Gaiman help with the legal stuff, under the condition Gaiman works for them (eternals, 1602 only exist thanks to this).
>after a long time Marvel can publish Miracleman
>Lost Morrison story is published
>plans to publish new stuff

That's it, what i don't recall if the change of name was before or after the reboot.

Miracleman is an amazing series, but everyone thinks it should had been part of Vertigo and not Marvel. But is fine.

Marvelman was pretty much a Silver age Captain Marvel
Miracleman was about a guy that recall a lost life as a superhero and discover he actually is one.
Sentry and pic related are rip off of miracleman.

I've read every Spider-Man comic, he was a great Peter, but a shitty Spider-Man

Got some interesting answers the last time, so I'll ask again:

Who or what what is the one /co/-related character, team, title, show, universe, or franchise that you've made it your business to keep up with? That you live, breathe, and can even sperg about for hours on end because you know everything there is to know about it?

Pic related is still the closest for me.

I dunno, I dropped out of comics altogether for a few years before recently coming back to it, and I don't closely follow movie news because I like to have some surprise left when I'm finally watching the movie.

I'm currently reading through the whole of ASM so I guess Spider-Man. Minor obsession since age 7.
>>
>>80733630

I don't even know what's happening in ASM right now. He's, like, in Shanghai now and running his own multinational company and is posing as his own bodyguard much like old school Iron Man?

What are some of the saddest tear jerking or emotion drawing deaths of comic book history.

also warning SPOILER ALERT! Do not open this picture unless you have read Garth Ennis' 'THE BOYS'. The death involved will be meaningless if you have not read it and if you have is a hell of a lot more meaningful and impactful if you know the character involved.

why does the live-action movie medium make such a huge impact on people? i don't understand why we need to get so pumped for this stuff when there's already amazing comics, cartoons, and games that are more rich in content than an expensive 2 hour hollywood performance.
17 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Cause people view that stuff as being for kids
>>
>>80730878
Movies carry a sense of legitimacy that other mediums do not.
I think partially because of how well regarded actors are and how much money they cost and make.
Also I think they are the closest people get to the idea seeming like its a real thing. Even though in many ways its just as cartoonish or fantastical. Because its real people filmed in such a way that makes them look like events really unfolding, i think it resonates with far more people than other forms of media.
>>

>why does the live-action movie medium make such a huge impact on people?

>Why are movies a mass media to the extent that they are?

Are you really asking this question? Cause that's a hell of a question, with reasons both historical and cultural.

I don't know how many of you agree, but I think there won't ever be another truly great disney movie. take mulan for example. it's masterpiece, anyone who disagrees is a moron that should burn in hell. but as i rewatched it, there's a lot of stuff that would be considered ""racist" these days. a movie like this wouldn't fly today.

i think we're nearing the point where drawing asians with slanted eyes will be racist soon

Anyone who loves 90s Disney musicals and hates either The Princess and the Frog, Tangled, or Frozen is a complete fucking retard who is so blinded by nostalgia they don't even know why they liked those movies in the first place.

That's also ignoring Winnie the Pooh and Wreck-It Ralph, which were also fantastic.
>>

wew lad, you even got frozen in there! and kept a straight face! well, tone
>>
>>80730910
This is factual.
Frozen wasnt the best movie but its become popular to hate it just because its popular.
And wreck it ralph was on level with any of the older movies like Mulan or Aladdin not to mention Zootopia which BTFOs some of the older movies
