They're really not, you most likely don't have the time or passion. I got into capes when I was young and looking back on it, it wasn't a chore it just came naturally, because I enjoyed them. Keep in mind i'm talking about Marvel. I try to get into DC with only knowing little things about the universe, and I can't because it's over bearing. Not saying Marvel is better than DC, I just got into Marvel at a younger age, and if this was vice versa, I wouldn't care about Marvel either.

Basically you gotta get into it because you care, not because you're wanting to be on the band wagon.

Start off small. With a street level hero. Work your way up.

Personally I use to read wiki articles until I got the gist of the world, then it evolved there, but you're not going to want to do that.

A few continuities ago, he got plastic surgery and attempted to become a heterosexual normalfag once when he (mistakenly) believed he had killed Batman. However, he basically had the same problem as Black Manta; immediately upon hearing (or, seeing in a newspaper) that his nemesis was alive again, even against his now-functioning conscience, he relapsed straight back into the status quo again and never looked back.

His insanity is more or less totally dependent on their mutual existence. He'd never take Batman up on his possibility of reforming, unless Batman would cease to exist along with him.
