Does anyone else have a hard time reading older comics? It's not the stories that get but the repetitive nature of the writing.
For example Frank Millers Daredevil run is great but man the constant narration pointing out that Daredevil is blind and how he has radar and that he's actually just simple lawyer Matt Murdock is really grating.
The same thing happens in older xmen comics as well where everyone needs to constanly explain their powers like it was some kind of anime really kills the pacing for me.
Sure if it's a character's first appearance or the beginning of a new run then yeah I understand that but in millers run I'm 10 issues in and it's STILL beating me over the head with how blind matt is I get it please stop.
Old comics were always written with the mindset that they could be anyone's first time ever.

You have to remember that when these comics were coming out paperback collections weren't a thing, Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter wanted every issue to have the basic premise included so that any new readers could understand what was going on, basically any issue could be a good intro.

I get that especially for comics back in the 40's and all, but the Daredevil comics have a little splash page in the beginning that lays out who daredevil is I just wish they left it at that
What the fuck did I just read?

That D&D comic by Jab was really good.
Is it possible that the reason DC characters haven't found live action success is because they're inherently more cartoony? That would explain why they can work so well in cartoons, but not so much in live action.
Look at the fundamental core differences when it comes to the outlook of DC and Marvel. Yeah, you can say there are outlandish elements in Marvel, but look at how the universe was set out to be molded like: flawed and more human characters, reasonable pseudo-science explanations for their powers, a focus on real-life settings and themes and shared universe from the start. DC's characters started separately and were thrown together to make a DC universe. Not only is there a frigid heirarchy at DC that heavily revolves around Superman and Batman, the characters lend themselves to more "mythic" story-telling, with the DC characters as gods in their universe (depsite attempts to humanize them). Even Batman (who has the meme of being DC's most human character) is a symbol, and his franchise heavily relies on that. Marvel characters are human, have personality ticks and everyday problems, and this translates well to current days media where we like to see our heroes with flaws and daily struggles.
>In before "muh Nolan movies"
Those only proved that DC characters have to be heavily stripped down and hyper-realized to translate to live action. There's a reason the New 52 versions of these characters recieved lukewarm reception. There's a reason it's hard to adapt Flash or the Atom or Green Arrow's domino mask to live action without looking like shit.
Can DC characters work in live action? Are they more cartoony than Marvel's? Do the fundamental outlook of each universe play a role in their ability to work outside of the comic medium? Are DC characters outdated? Is there hope for DC live action adaptations?
You're right brah no one ever liked any of the pre-Nolan Batman movies, or the Watchmen movie, or the pre-Snyder Superman movies, or any of the myriad live action TV shows, or anything. The lukewarm reception to the last three DC adaptations prove that it simply can't be done ever.
>Implying Superman and Batman didn't have insanely successful movies with huge amounts of comic-y goodness
>Implying realism was celebrated as how Batman should be done, instead of pure relief that the franchise was fixed from Batman and Robin
>Implying the Flash show isn't constantly praised for bringing crazy comic and Silver Age elements into the fold
i think its that they try to hard to do what marvel did by changing their characters to fit a world instead of changing the world to fit their characters
No one remembers this
I remember commercials for it before it came out but I never watched the actual thing.

I don't really keep up with DC, I'm guessing Katana doesn't usually use guns? And is that supposed to be Enchantress? Wasn't she part of Justice League Dark or something?

katana is supposed to be a samurai assassin that alone doesn't make sense in this run she was only described as a badass again doesn't make sense her using guns really doesn't break the formula
katana does not make sense

If a super heroine had her time of the month wouldn't that be the end of life as we know it? hell you would think a villainess's period would be an apocalypse in that of itself.

You'd need the character to be at least high reality warper tier for them to be a serious threat, and just a little higher than that you get into cosmic abstracts which aren't beholden to biological phenomenon. Off the top of my head I can't think of a single female character that would qualify as a real threat when they've got the red runs.
