I know this story is "stockholm syndrome: the fairy tale" enough as it is but what if the Beast wasn't ever a prince? What if he was just some shmo living in his mother's basement who got turned into a beast for calling an SJW (social justice witch) a fat hag-faced old cunt? What if Beast were /r9k/ the character?

Beast was always kind of an asshole, so he's trying to force Belle and when she isn't exactly what he wants he freaks out. A whole part of the story is Belle forcing Beast to improve himself.

2. Runs with specific characters are still totally worth reading, and it also gives you a better understanding of those "kino" titles. Reading Books drawn by Steve Ditko, for instance, will let you appreciate the watchmen characters based on his work, as well as the grid panel structure that was so consistent in Ditko's work. Or perhaps you would read the Lee/Kirby run of the fantastic four to see the best of what the silver age had to offer.
3. That being said, independent titles are probably your cup of tea, in which case it's up to you to find the stories you find appealing and the art you like.
4. As far as keeping up, yeah you can ignore most books that come out. Read the ones you like and you'll figure it out eventually

There's so fucking many. I'd say Mondo from Gen X, but that dude wasn't even a character. Onslaught is up there probably. I think Apocalypse is just fucking lame other than his first outing.

Man, I don't usually like east meeting west, but I feel that Jojo's Bizarre Adventure does a better job at having unique powersets than X-men has done in the last decade. I guess the dude who's power is making people forget him was neat?

He wanted to live a normal life in line with the social norms of his culture and was a productive and well liked member of his community.
