Small confession: the reason I'm posting so much Al Williamson lately is because I kind of forgot to post it earlier this year, so I'll just post it until I'm all caught up.

Also, I won't be here tomorrow. Sorry, but them's the breaks.

Anyway, on with the cover story!

25 years ago a bunch of Marvel artists left the Big Two and decided to form their company, with blackjack and hookers. This company would eventually become the closest to a third competitor for DC and Marvel (lol) and the best known creator-owned comic book company out there.

For our final week, we'll be looking at modern Image, an age of superstar writers, popular artists, and... movie/TV pitches?

Next up is... this thing, Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky's Sex Criminals

No. But that doesn't stop the magic of the strip. My favorites are when the parents interact with the stuffed animal
>>
Real in the sense that he was Calvin's stuffed tiger. He was only a living, sentient being in Calvin's imagination, but perhaps that makes him real. These are fictional characters after all. They exist to us, but they themselves are not real in the sense that we usually think of the word. It really depends on your definition and perception of reality, though.

If a Channel doesn't have a personality yet, then you can suggest ideas for one.
If a Channel doesn't have a design yet, then you can suggest ideas for one.
If a Channel has a personality and a design, then you can draw them.
If multiple Channels have all of the above, then you can draw comics of them interacting.

All of them. but mostly those who are /co/ related.

I love this movie, but (other than TFA of course) it's probably just the worst SW movie, just because it bangs up agaisnt George's self proclaimed weakness- writing.
However, I speak not of the dialogue, which I love, but the plotting.
It would have been hard for anyone to do, but I think George fumbles with moving the pieces logically in place for ANH.
Other than Anakin's fall/Sheev's rise, which was, in my very humble opinion, very well done, a lot of the LITTLE events in the back half of the film just feel inorganic.
Yoda's fight/"defeat" and R2 not getting a memory wipe/not telling Luke about..anything (biggest issue by far) come to mind. Other things like "lost the will to live", while perfectly functional in a mythological sense, feel like easy ways out.
And other little things like Leia remembering her mother (again, when taken LITERALLY "beautiful.. but sad." "she died when I was very young" "just.. images really") it makes sense, but it just feels a little contrived.
Same with things like "you served my father in the clone war" "I thought I could instruct him just as well as Yoda" "The Jedi master who instructed me" (those last two are more general PT issues) etc...

BUT, so much went RIGHT with the film, that I still like it.
It just feels kind of unfinished/first draft-y.

I know that one /tv/ "luke did I ever tell you" memester is here, so this post is probably going to be hit with his shitposts.

Alright guys, it's been a long time coming but now we're officially going to critically examine Slott's Spider-Man from start to finish. Currently, the plan is to start with Amazing Vol. 1 and continue until the end of Clone Conspiracy.

I've checking out a couple posting orders online and I've also decided to include supplementary series where applicable. Which means I can either just include the tie ins when necessary, or I can really go crazy and Storytime basically the entire Spider Universe (Venom, Scarlet Spider, Avenging, Superior Team Up). I agree that Avenging 15.1 onward and Superior Team Up should definitely be included but it's your choice if I should include the entirerty of the other series.

Starting up we got Amazing Spider-Man #648, the debut issue in an arc called "Big Time". Little did we suspect just how off the beaten path Slott would decide to take this series. We didn't know....we just didn't know...

Everything is not awesome with “The LEGO Batman Movie,” at least according to a pair of right-wing websites. As reported by The Advocate, America’s leading LGBT magazine and website, John-Henry Westen of Canada’s LifeSiteNews cautions that the children’s movie is “chockful of pro-gay propaganda.”

“Think the sexual innuendo of the Flintstones minus the real humor,” Westen wrote. “It seemed the creators [of “The LEGO Batman Movie”] were so anxious to subtly indoctrinate the little ones into the gender ideology that making it humorous came as a distant second thought.”

Not content to milk his own discontent at “The LEGO Batman Movie,” Westen quotes Michael Hamilton of PJ Media, a faith-based site whose “main focus is on the three main areas that will have the most impact on the future of America: politics, parenting and lifestyle.” Hamilton worries that the film may lead to “an awkward conversation with your kid a few years before you want it,” and goes on to spoil one of the film’s best running gags: the fact that Dick Grayson doesn’t know that Bruce Wayne is Batman.

“[T]wo men adopting a son together sounds like a dream come true to Richard, the orphan Bruce Wayne adopts without telling him he’s Batman,” writes Hamilton, “That’s why, when Richard hesitates to board a bat vehicle without Bruce-Dad’s permission, Batman tells him he and Bruce-Dad share custody of him. Richard doesn’t need Bruce-Dad’s permission; he has Bat-Dad’s!”

Hamilton goes on: “This solution thrills Richard, who unblinkingly climbs aboard (and later becomes Robin). The bubbly young man is tickled as he spells it out for viewers: Yesterday he didn’t have a dad, and now he has two dads!”

to be fair, its not wrong, they were not even being subtle with joker and batman
>>
He then attacks the film’s central conflict, calling the relationship between Batman and the Joker a “he-ro-mance—like ‘bro-mance’ (a platonic sort of romance between dudes).” Hamilton explains that “Batman essentially ‘breaks up’ with Joker early in the story, making Joker cry and setting up Batman as a cold egomaniac.” He then argues, “Rehabilitating Batman for relationships is a plot priority. Batman and Joker’s relationship is the flagship. Piecing together a non-nuclear family is close in tow.”

Stating the obvious, Hamilton adds that all of this results in “making ‘LEGO Batman’ about bringing two dudes together without making it about bringing two dudes together.” Hamilton believes that the “subliminal nature’ of these questionable themes” is “subtle enough most people won’t notice.” He considers this a “mixed blessing.”

Hamilton is more concerned about what he calls a veiled “anatomical joke.” When Richard Grayson tells Bruce that all the other orphans call him Dick, the older Wayne replies, “Well, kids can be Cruel.” Hamilton asks readers, “Dick doesn’t get it. Will your kid?” (Don’t anyone tell these two pundits about Rainbow Batman.)
