As a spic I feel like I need to say that America preview was... fucking godawful. Like, holy shit was it bad. Bad show-don't-tell propping up Bendis would approve of, bad coloring, pretty goddamn horrible dialogue.
>pa' fuera pa' la calle
Like, fuck off, dude.

And really, Miss America Chavez is your choice for a fucking Latino (or Latinx if you're feeling particularly stupid) voice? Freaking Miss America Chavez who's not even from fucking Earth?! What is wrong with you?

Just... wow. Man, am I mad.

>>
>>90199812
I saw a thread wherein a whole bunch of normally Progressive Comics 100% Positive people were cringing like fuck about it, so, well, should be interesting!

Yeah, I'm sure Casey in his Joe Casey way was kind of going for a "Miss America but of the Now" with her and Gillen got his entirely too clever Wonder Woman expy thing in mind and ran with it and now the sense...
>>
>>90199774

I was expecting him to shit the bed but he actually managed to do worse than I feared. He was straight up shitting on Zemo there.

The one--ONE--constant is that Zemo always has the number for each of the Bolts in an unnerving way. He didn't even try with Erik, and he's good at bullying him!

Hello, Storyteller.

First off, I ain't afraid to admit I missed you. Second, the 2011 Thundercats show was such a huge disappointment that I kinda doubt this crap here can top it.
>>
>>90199812

>>90199812

I was originally somewhat hopeful for the America solo because some of the stuff the writer said in interviews sounded good...but holy shit, that preview was godawful.

It's definitely pitching for the Gillen YA market--low but steady, checks a variety of boxes, people have made noises about it for a while--but the distance between pitch and 20 pages a month is...

>>90199982
I went and climbed Enchanted Rock, which was on my bucket list, so I love y'all but it wasn't happening
>>
>>90199914

That Thunderbolts issue moved the Zubbolts run from storytime of boredom & disappointment into storytime of pain territory.

For me personally it was just a bunch of intro pages for a #1 which is looking for an audience, so I didn't get the hate. I expected that. The meat of the comic, if there's gonna be any, was almost totally absent from the preview.

This panel is the whole comic. I want to believe there's the tiniest sense of irony here, but.
>>
>>90200134
It was just infuriatingly pander-y, and you can tell this is going to be the Ta-Nehisi Coates' Black Panther for Latinos starring a lead that's not even fucking Latina!

Also, I don't like either the character or the set-up describes in the interviews, so the book as a whole is just a huge turn-off for me. Like the kind of thing I'd be embarrassed to be caught reading in public.

I rolled my eyes at the "Kate (the REAL Hawkeye)" because that's really hard to pull off--either you come across as defensive because you know she's not, or you fall into the "Making dudebros mad is virtuous in and of itself" category. And, well, we all saw something of what happens to figures who live and die solely on the making people mad front, lol

So I feel like while promising things were said in the preview/interview there was always a solid 50:50 this was gonna be another Marvel Book for X (are you buying it yet?). The college set-up adds to that because you have to be Good to make that good.

But for the actual preview >>90200196 it's to me just backstory pages. Maybe I'm totally off on this one, but I'm not having the same reaction as a lot of people I see. Is it a hook? No, but a basic intro isn't making me disgusted. The cringiest bit for me in that is the "I WISH I COULD HUG MY MOMS" and the worrying bit is the lack of immediate hook or any edge.

What baffles me is why Helmut didn't just, like, go up to their front door and knock. "Hello old friends. Life seems to be shitting on you a bit. I can help you with that. Just come on back to me and we can clean up this whole mess. What do you say?"

Would've been a better sales pitch than rather uncharacteristically going thug on their asses for no good reason.

The refusal to deal with Standoff in any way was one of the most idiotic decisions Zub made but became especially grating here where he seemed to ignore that Karla, Erik and Norbert teamed up with Helmut just fine there.

Also he completely botched the Norbert and Helmut dynamic, being the only writer in twenty years to do that.

Me? Biased against something I don't like? Say it ain't so!

Also, whoever said you can't judge a book by its cover was talking out of their ass. Crossovers literally only exist to pander to two or more fan bases at once. I suppose theoretically, you could maybe squeeze a good story out of mixing two franchises, but simply never happens.

He absolutely has no choice. He did the epic fantasy structure wherein the mystery helps drive the plot, and that means you have to know what happened and make the reveal do serious dramatic work. It's great when it works, not so great when it's "that's it?", and miserable when it's "and we never, ever found out".
