Hey /biz/, question for you. You all talk about how the first step to being successful is to find a good paying job. How would a person go about finding one of those? Is it all in networking or is there some other trick to finding a good job?

Networking, having a decent resume, displaying confidence in an interview.
>>
1) It's a numbers game. Send out a bunch of resumes online, tailor/tweak each resume so that it fits the job you're applying to. Include a cover letter.

2) Network at meetup groups depending on which industry you're trying to get into. Become a regular and go in there with the intention of making friends. Do not go into the meetup begging for jobs or you will sound like a desperate loser. Put the effort into building a rapport with them. Find their interests and talk with them on the regular. Since they will have a connection with you, they will be more inclined to help you if you casually bring up that you're looking for work.

3) You have to look the part. Look at the people already in the industry/company you're trying to get into and dress EXACTLY like them. Start acting like them, too. Many people underestimate the power of this. You have to look and act like you already belong there, hence they'll be more likely to assume you'll be a good culture fit and you'll get hired.

With all of this said, if you can't find a job in time, create your own llc, and then say on your resume you were employed by it and put your duties on there with a nice title. You'll get extra points for creating your own company and being regarded as a driven entrepreneur.

I have 0 useful skills, except a bit of financial/IT knowledge.

I've never worked in my life except cushy jobs. I can't get hired in the trades in USA due to a DUI.

I have about 525k, and all it does is grow and grow, but I still remain the same useless sack of shit.

I'm smart, but I can't go to school due to crippling anxiety. I want to work in a job, but I am too embarrassed to start at $8 in retail. Is landlording a good start, I would have to relocate and go hyper-leverage like 75% LTV, in a city I have never been too, and know nothing about.

Maybe you should do the same

What the fuck is a "banker".

It's obviously not someone who works at a bank, do they own a bank?

Why would a bank let their employee become a billionare?

Maybe 100 years ago, bankers actually had a job, but in modern times a program can evaluate a default rate, risk/reward, credit score, and just about everything faster/better than a person.

Black Rock one of the worlds largest financial managers just went 100% automated, laid off all their "stock pickers", and are going with a passive managed approach calling it "robotic" "automated" using buzz words instead of saying SP500 or w/e.

What the hell do bankers even do anymore?

>>
>>1914854
People throw the word "banker" around a lot when they are referring to anyone who works for a bank or in asset management. Traditionally, I would consider people who work in investment banking (i.e. people who help companies raise capital by selling their shares via IPOs, private placements, M&A deals, etc.) and people who work in commercial banking (i.e. people who secure financing for companies) to be "bankers." I wouldn't say people who are managing funds are really in the banking industry. In some cases, they work for a bank, but they are in asset management functions, not banking functions. I suppose you could say people who work at the retail level in a bank are technically bankers, but those are low level jobs and nobody is talking about those jobs when they say they want to get into banking.
>>
>>1914929
how do you get into banking?

>"i.e. people who help companies raise capital by selling their shares via IPOs, private placements, M&A deals, etc.)

All of this is essentially sales, I see the need for a lawyer, CPA and salesman but not much else.

Mortgage / Bond sales = commercial banking (i.e. people who secure financing for companies)"
>>
>>1914989
The investment banker is the salesman.

Why FA?

So I just opened my first LLC with the state, got my IRS EIN number and a business bank account.
I do aquarium installations and service mostly on large aquariums/ponds and other water features with animals in them.
I also worked with an ex-partner of mine who did coral propagation and sold it online which something I'm interested in expanding into once I get more clients and revenue to actually rent a warehouse or something to run the grow op. What I will not do however is open a shop/retail which is these days a dying proposition even in something specialized as marine aquariums.

My math skills are terrible which hampering me on my accounting knowledge. But as general question do most people who take payments say in this case the invoice for my monthly service fee and then automatically deduct the % that goes to tax into business savings account from your business checking?
Right now I only have one client which is a gross of $380 a month for aprox. 35mins of work twice a month. (just a 20 gallon FW planted aquarium). I aim to get at least 10 more clients this month in that range. ( my base rate is $380).

I feel like I do the job better then most of the chuckle fucks in the area however I feel disorganized and its something I'm trying to fix but I just don't really know where to start.

I would say pay some ocd accountant to help you with the math and doubke as a secretary??
>>
>>1914744
you're not going to owe taxes on $380/mo

once you get to the point where you owe taxes you just estimate how much you owe quarterly and send that in to the IRS along with the little coupon for estimated taxes.

now since you went with the LLC you're going to need to also submit the company's share of FICA withholding taxes on top of your own. Look up how to make employer contributions of FICA tax and follow those directions.

Also because of the LLC you're required by law to have workman's comp insurance on yourself. Look into this as you get a couple more clients.

Your LLC and workman's comp protects YOU, but it doesn't protect your clients from you. Most clients are going to want to see that you're insured. Get a contractor's liability policy as soon as you can. A couple million in coverage should be good until you get employees. You may also want to look into getting a business services bond just so you can say you're insured and bonded. Clients do prefer it. Smart clients won't hire you until you get insurance. Your insurance agent can advise about both liability and bond.

Personally I'd forget about the coral propagation project until you're grossing at least $50k and paying yourself at least $24k. Warehouse space is going to cost a lot and you'll almost certainly lose money on that project. It's something to think about when you can afford to throw money away.

You should be writing off a home office and storage space most likely. That way you can deduct vehicle expenses 100%. We can discuss this if you like, or I'd urge you to talk to an accountant about it.

- VISIT THE WEBSITE FIRST DAMMIT!! - www.robinhood.com

> How is it free?
"People" invest your settled funds when you're not using them, just like banks.

> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
Not being approved in 3 days seems to be the new norm. Nevertheless, call/email their support if you've been waiting more than that.

> When is it coming to my country?
The only "plans" are on an Australian and Chinese beta. Neither of which has gained much traction.

> I hit sell when the stock was X.XX, but it actually sold at a lower price, why?
Robinhood graphs are shit and only show you an average, not true real-time prices. To get Bid/Ask prices and important things like candlestick graphs, you should use a more robust platform.

> Where can I get better charting or bid/ask?
Real brokers, like TDAmeritrade's thinkorswim. Otherwise you should be using tradingview.com, stockcharts.com, finviz.com, or a non-pile-of-shit for your graphing in addition to Robinhood.
