Story mode, when you're catching a Pokemon you've never seen before. It's safe because at least it doesn't fuck any stat up.
For competitive play, the 10% boost to one stat is always worth finding an area to take a 10% loss in.

ORAS has the best map design and richest amount of variety and content, but wasn't as good as it absolutely should've been, so many will rate it lower than it is as for them a game that came out ten years prior provides the same experience but better.
SM is something different, which many will praise it for alone, but it has some pretty big design issues that may or may not bother people. Among its many core mechanic improvements there's also some bizzare omissions. Though on the other hand it's a notable step up from XY and ORAS in certain areas, namely PvE combat balance and character writing. In the end it's love or hate, either great or awful depending on what one prioritizes in the series.
XY is the safest of the three in every possible way and does nothing more than adequately. But, I would say nothing is outright awful in it, unlike SM, and it didn't absolutely blow any reasonable expectations, unlike ORAS.

Lillie annoyed me to no end in Sun. She forces herself into the game every 5 minutes and completely prevents any progression until you sit through her "poor me" monologue filled with cringy dialogue or save her for the 74th time. All the characterization she gets is crossing a bridge (Conquering a fear that was never established) and changing into a schoolgirl outfit. It's painfully obvious that the writers half-assedly tossed her into the story to be weeaboo bait who overstays her welcome. All the characters love her and think she's brave and beautiful and must protect her. She even essentially becomes the protagonist by bringing out the big legendary and defeating Lusamine.
Honestly my favorite scene with her is when she left
