It changes how most augs work, adds new mechanics, ups the difficulty. Hardcore mode is great but new player would be fucked. You're going to replay the game seven times anyway, might as well properly appreciate the changes.

Why? It makes sense when fighting in the overworld because you can move around and thus dodge attacks, attack an enemy's weakpoint, etc. but when in a battle field you're limited to what you can do. All you can really do is select and enemy and choose an attack. What's the point of having real time combat there?

It now makes sense why the reviewer named Dan Ryckert gave XCOM 2 three stars out of five and bitched about the timer. His video playing XCOM shows he's fucking terrible at it.
