pleb. It has the best story, pacing, and action of the Craig movies.
CGI monsters enable boring filmmaking. With practical effects the filmmaker is limited, and limitations brew ingenuity. The original Alien costume sucked in good lighting, so we got an intense thriller. Jurassic Park: awesome rain scenes with the T. rex, kitchen scene with the raptors. Now we just get King Kong, flailing about, aliens that move in that fluid, CGI way that makes them completely unthreatening. Marvel movies where the hero and bad guy are fighting like Dragonball Z characters. It's tiresome and not very interesting. Reign it in people. There's no sense of tension if the monster doesn't have a presence.
The Witch was so effective as a horror because it built a playground for your imagination to play in. I just got out of Alien Covenant and didn't give a shit about the characters or creatures the entire movie.

I agree wholeheartedly OP. Something I've also mulled over is the impact that CGI has on the actors. I can't help but feel that there will always be a difference in performance between an actor staring at a green screen and being told to pretend something or someone is there, and an actor faced with an animatronic or some other physical, convincing prop. That isn't to say that there aren't actors that could give a stellar performance even in a blank white room with nothing to work with, but those are few and far between.

The "Alien was shit in light" only help making the film better. Alien was supposed to be a sacry movie so adding more darkness gives the audience a sensation that unknown is present (like in Haloween) helping to create an ambient where everything can happen anytime

Not a regular on this board so idk how it's been received on here...just got back from Tuesday cheap movie night and this was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Felt like I spent money on a movie no adult has business paying for unless they're babysitting a 10 yr old child.
How did this get such good reviews? I liked the first one and am pretty ambivalent on Marvel movies in general...but jeez it was an hour and a half of REALLY lame (even for this kind of movie) quips, so many cliches I wasn't sure if it was intentionally parodying them, and then millions of dollars jizzed out on SFX at the end (which did look good for the most part). It didn't help that I had some fat he-she with red hair in front of me laughing at every penis joke Dave Bautista said.
WTF did I just see? I just have to rant about how gypped I feel right now.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid general.
Admit it, as shitty as the new actor playing Rodrick was, at least the rest of the cast did a damn good job this a step in right direction for the most part. Fix Rodrick's character through good writing (along with the original hairstyle), make Greg a little bit more dickish and let Rowley have more screentime (if the movies deviate from the source material, it wouldn't hurt to add more scenes with him) and the inevitable sequel would be infinitely better.
Also,Markiplier really let himself go

It's not bad for baby's first scifi but I would stay away for the first couple of weeks. The collection of aliens all trying to work together (or not) was originally a look at the UN but it looks like now it's going to be globalization.
The only win-win is if it's bad it's going to trigger /pol/ and if it's good it's REALLY going to trigger /pol/.
