You could be writing right now. Or now. Or now. Or now. Or now. Or now. Or now. Or now. Or now. Or now.

Why is Turgenev so good at writing about love
>>9613229
Why don't you start, bozo. This is a useless thread unless you give something to talk about. Why do you think he's so good at writing about love? Russian literature is a huge topic.
>>9613229
What of his is essential next to torrents of spring and fathers & sons?
>>9613262
Fine then. I just think that Turgenev's characters are very well written and loaded with shit. He writes female characters who have some damn attractive yet dangerous personalities and expresses the narrator's feelings in some fantastic prose. Then again, I am reading a translation so I'm sure the original is even better.

Have you read First Love yet? Highly recommend that one.
What are the best non philosophy non fiction books I can get in PDF form with a single Google search or linked right here? I don't want philosophy or fiction because I take that stuff too seriously to read it on my phone during commutes.

Read Wikipedia articles.
recommend a novel about someone being oblivious of nearby suffering, but it should be mainly the inability of the protagonist, not surroundings oblivious of protagonist problems.
If I haven't read anything before what would be necessary to read before The Recognitions by William Gaddis? Do I have to read the Bible and the greeks?
>>9613170
yes
>>9613170
read the book if you want to. But some helpful things would be the greeks, bible, restoration lit, russian giants, turn of the century brit lit, german romanticism, modern poetry especially eliot, and various mythological texts. Pretty much what you'd expect from any high modernist text: everything. But I recommend you just read whatever you like. Read some secondary literature on the recognitions so you can situate without slogging through the entire canon just to read this one book
you should also use the Gaddis annotations website for historical stuff/translations etc
Hi /lit/!
What is the absolutely best font one can use for reading walls of text? Bonus points if it's sans-serif and aesthetic but readability is the top priority.
My pick would be Segoe but I'm really looking for something even better if it exists.
>>9613136
Let me give you my font history:
First I used »Segue UI« for at least 3 years, the I switched to »Verdana« and kept that for 2 years. Less than a week ago I dropped »Verdana« for the in my opinion currently best font »Liberation Mono«. Monotype fonts are generally easy to read.
One of the tests is employ is the »rn-m« (left is r and n, right is m) difference. The font, which lets you distinguish between these two will have good readability in general. Use the word "learnmusic" in your tests.
While you can look at fonts seperately, there are other important elements which provide good readability for running text:
(1) line distance: 1.5 is perfect
(2) text width: I find ~10 cm to be perfect.
What happened to good old 12pt TNR? Don't be a hipster faggot, OP.
I'm a fan of Alef personally, but why on earth would you want a sans-serif font at all?
So what are these literary agents thinking that I managed to get my postmodern schizophrenic scifi epic on their table? Like do they know genius when they see it or are they getting creeped the fuck out?
I think they're ignoring you because you can't write a coherent sentence.
they're mostly just thinking about lunch and their plans for the weekend. your writing is just another thing on a pile and they're forgetting it faster than they can read it.
Just came in the mail. What can I expect? I enjoyed Revolt Against the Modern World if that helps
Recommend any good podcasts on writing/literature.
I used to listen to The Story Grid but they talk too much about just literature as a job or business.
Frank Delaney's re:Joyce is a sentence by sentence analysis of Ulysses. It could be dry and boring, but Frank is very fun and knowledgeable. And he's Irish. He died though, so it only goes up to the middle of Chapter 10. Still there's over 300 episodes and they're very in depth.

Know any other ones more broad?

How did the aliens from "The Earth Men" adopt an humanoid form and created a comfy 20's village in "The Third Expedition"? They seem like different kinds to me.
"London, 1918. You are newly-turned Vampyr Dr. Jonathan Reid. As a doctor, you must find a cure to save the city’s flu-ravaged citizens. As a Vampyr, you are cursed to feed on those you vowed to heal"
its a video game description
So I will ask, any good Vampire books?
Currently writing one.
'Salem's Lot is one of King's few books I wouldn't regard as absolute trash, though not to say it's interesting either.
The Strain is a decent trilogy. I simply wish Del Toro was the sole author.
honestly the early Anne Rice novels aren't terrible

I think the first three are incredibly solid. I haven't read the latest two, but I know everything after Queen of the Damned varies. Blood Canticle is fucking garbage though.
What was Henry's developmental disability?
tism
Not only is it the best book in the Bible, it's also the best book of all time.
Literature can't get any better than this. Prove me wrong.
