ITT: Pleb level book critiques/reviews
>it didnt have a hook
I guess its a valid complaint but i feel like plebs throw it around for any book that is mildly difficult or they didnt like for any reason
I want listen to listen to something that will lift your spirits. Some of you seem unhappy.

hey anons,
what are your opinions on the literature of this time? which works (preferably in English and German, for these are the languages I am fluent in) are worth reading? What are your views on the different philosophical branches of rationalism, from Descartes to Kant?
>>9620613
Voltaire's Candide, and Goethe's Faust obviously. A Modest Proposal for shits and giggles.
What's going on with this /lit/? Hoax? Created by a schizophrenic genius? Is it a code book?
>>9620524
Alchemical resource encoded with a conlang.
Figure out the syntax, figure out the base meaning, figure out the language of the birds, fly to the next reading.
hi /lit/, do you use something to rate and/or catalog the books you've read, the ones you're reading, the wishlist, etc?
>>9620491
yeah it's called my brain
Goodreads and an .xml file
No why would I bother?
Are there any krauts (or non-krauts for that matter) from Leipzig out there who would be interested in meeting up and talking about literature?
I am somehow happy with my social life, but the people I spend time with have a very limited interest in literature and whats attached to it. So I thought it could maybe be interesting to meet some strangers from the internet who share my interests.
It is probably unlikely that someone will take me up on that offer, but if you would be interested in discussing in person what you are writing or reading right now, let me know.
Are you a sexy high school girl?
Believe me, OP, you don't want to spend time IRL with people who browse this website. I know for a fact that, lived I in Leipzig and not in my cozy New England mountain town, I would stay as far away from your proposed meeting as I possibly could. You should thank me, as you should thank everyone who doesn't show up to your meeting for not burdening you with inane discussions about why David Foster Wallace doesn't suck.

Maybe
>/lit/ tells me a book has a great love story
>It involves cuckolding in some way
What are the pre-requisites for reading this?
>>9620247
It can be read pretty fresh: about half of it is devoted to high-level conceptual issues, and the other half is devoted to the formalism. For the latter, it might help to have a little background in logic or mathematics, but it's not necessary.
It's a great read, short but meaty, much like my phallus. Good luck OP.

My book. Audio version. Polish language.

i want to get weirdly obsessed with the legend of the grail. what should i read?
Read ChretiƩn de Troyes' Romances before Le Morte d'Arthur.
The History of the Kings of Britain is the first source to mention Arthur, but its fairly skippable unless you really want to get into the History of the character.
>>9620136
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is pretty dope. Not about Arthur but there's a lot to learn in there about his values and impotence as a king
What's your guilty pleasure book/series? That one you know isn't objectively great but you find you love and have read over and over?
>>9619698
I genuinely enjoyed the Harry Potter books. When I was a kid. And I bet they still retain some of their old magic.
>tfw you finally understand that the author is a meme and the work is freely and entirely created by the reader
What are the best books of history? I'm looking for stuff more about an era or event, rather than of a specific person (i.e., don't recommend Caro's LBJ or other biographies please,) and prefer something more political history aligned. Have already read Thucydides and The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.
What era OP? This is probably what you're looking for:
>The Story of Civilization - Will Durant
11 volume series, each volume covers a well defined age in human history, excellent writing. I am reading volume II, The Life of Greece right now, there's so many details to take in, he covers it all from family customs to mythology to art to philosophy. Each volume is also self contained, so you can start at any point.

I enjoyed this as pop history, but you have to be more specific.
Maybe what we refer to God is just a symbolism that our mind created for expressing what our brain think "time" and "space" and "identity" is.
>>9619653
or maybe not.
>>9619653
does it matter?
