how prevalent was suicide before religion taught people that it's immoral? is there any way of finding this out?
>>3005330
Based on the writings of various churches from that time religious suicide was very common.
if god is all powerful and all loving why doesn't he make everyone christian and save them? what's the point of having free choice under god's created world?

Because God, in all his benevolence, wants us to find the path to righteousness ourselves. He gives us the tools but not necessarily the capability to follow His wisdom into salvation.
On the flip side of this is that religion itself is an amalgamation of ethical values based on the culture that spawned it and no true (see correct) one exists.
A third side is that God takes many forms and fills whatever role His people want of him so as to lead them to salvation, hence the existence of different religions that share sins and virtues yet wear a different hat.
Because Eve screwed it up.

So, the soviets had the best doctrine prior to the purges?
also tank general I guess
>>3004659
The purges along with the (erroneous) lessons learned in the Winter War; an emphasis on overcoming fortified lines, and in Spain and Poland; the disbanding of Tank Corps with the deep strike role reassigned to the cavalry.
They were in the process of rectifying these and forming new Mechanized Corps and Tank Divisions when the Germans invaded.
Probably, but the effectiveness of Germany's Blitzkrieg points to superior armored tactics against the other countries and Barbarossa started out very bad for the Russians until they got their collective shit into their red commie sock and kicked ass.
Was he really that bad?
He just wanted to dance
What if the spaniards colonized Australia instead of the Anglos? pic related named the continent Australia de spiritu santo(southern land of the Holy Spirit) and wanted to establish a colony called Nueva Jerusalem. What kind of colonial history would it have? Would the spaniards convert the Abos and create a mestizo population rather than Shoah them?
>>3004466
They would create a bunch of petrol huffing Catholic halfbreeds.

>What if the spaniards colonized Australia instead of the Anglos?
Another Argentina - ie a poorer society with more problems with corruption.
Quite possibly would have been taken over during the Napoleonic or Spanish American War.
>What kind of colonial history would it have?
Pretending that the French and English let Spain take the whole continent unmolested you would probably have it starting out small and religious only to be displaced by more secular interests when actual wealth was found.
Then you would follow the same dodgy Spanish practice of selling huge parcels of crown land to raise money for domestic policies which would inadvertently lead to the aristocratic and corruption problems the British specifically sought to appose.
Blackbirding (pusedo slavery) would have flourished instead of being crushed.
Not sure if they would have been able to federate as easily.
>Would the spaniards convert the Abos and create a mestizo population rather than Shoah them?
You severely overestimate the numbers of aborigines in Australia even before disease came into play even if blandaing up was a goal their population would always be tiny. Likewise as nomads with a heavily nomadic culture converting them to Catholicism and integrating them into society would be more destructive to the aboriginal people than the English Isolating and dispossessing them.
Would he have lived longer if he hadn't fucked with Israel orwas his death really from natural causes?
He slept like 2 hours a night and smoked like a fucking chimney
It was natural causes. He lived an extremely unhealthy lifestyle.

Can we talk for a second about Ecclesiastes?
How the fuck did this shitty and pointless set of incoherent and repetitive ramblings ended up being one of the "most influential books in western tradition"?
This crap reads like a high-school edgelord's emo blog AT BEST. I had it hyped to me as a "timeless wellspring of ancient wisdom", when to me it just seems doubly hilarious that the fucker who wrote it obviously couldn't foresee the Industrial Revolution.
Most of the writers being guided by the Holy Spirit were unable to foresee the fall and 2,000 year scattering of Israel as a nation

"A German's home is an asylum and is inviolable.(Article 115)"
How far did they take Asylum? Was this really a get home, home free rule?
What are you even talking about? That word should translated to "sanctuary" to be more accurate. "A German's home is his sanctuary" meaning nobody can take it away or bother you insisde your home. The article does include another line that there can be exceptions, so all necessary laws would still apply.

Why is Duncan so comfy?
As this board was founded I was also on a manic phase of bipolar cycle. When I read books on history, I was thinking less about the books themselves but more about how "interesting" they were. I was wondering: those people watching TV and playing videogames, why didn't they realize learning about history is so much fun and why didn't I start reading earlier.
But I know this state isn't really helpful, because it is in fact a sign that I am not interested in reading and want to watch movies and play video games.
So I guess it's important to have you people with me, so that when I am manic or depressed I have an objective comparison to check my own status. Thanks.
