ppicasso_paella.jpg

I got in an argument with my boss about this picture. It shows Pablo Picasso, there is a plate of Paella on the table, so I assume this picture must have been taken in Spain. He seems to be smoking some sort of cigarette or cigar.
Now my boss claims that Picasso in this picture is talking to the guy on the right, which is supposed to be a spanish Matador (I don't know where he got this information).
I claim that Picasso isn't talking to the guy visible on the left, the blurry one with the open mouth. I don't think so, and I need to prove it somehow because 6 other people supported his claim to be true. I need to know if my perception is distorted or not. In my opinion, Picasso isn't looking at the visible guy, but to the guy right next to him. To that guys left, to be exact.
I tried to find the source to this picture, to maybe find out more historic details about it. But there seems to be no source at all. I tried google reverse image search and tineye, everything just points to some kitchen manufacturer, but not the original source of the photography. Some french journal shows more of the picture and I think the source is printed on it in the right bottom corner, but it's just a preview and it's too blurry to read.
here:
http://www.lecho.be/journal/ipaper/20170624#paper/sabato_fr/123

I think by finding the source, I might find out what exactly happened in this scene. Who picasso was talking to, to be exact. I also plan to find out if there really was a matador present on this table.

Can you help me?

Can we just have a thread about monuments and memorials that we like, and why we like them? I'm in Europe, so I'm hoping to visit a lot of them in the next few years.

I'll start

Been here, the Alamo memorial out front is just as cool as the church, imo. The Mexican military dragged their bodies here and burned them.

Have you seen drone footage of it? I'd love to visit, and am planning a road trip to Mongolia eventually. Imagine when they find his tomb, the memorials then.

Why did they hate black people so much?

they didn't hate black people, they just really loved cotton
>>

after the war they wanted to get back at the union military occupation government during the reconstruction. turned out to be easier to just kill blacks. since they were no longer property, they no longer had the protections that they did as slaves. so the blacks were attacked in lieu of attacking the government.

before the war. the south was a class stratified society. the slaves and the free blacks were the bottom of the ladder. hating blacks was about keeping your self above someone else in society. more like how indians with the caste system dispise the lower castes. then any sort of nazi eugenics nonsense.

during reconstruction the southern whites were also all stripped of their right to vote or run for office. a lot of blacks took positions of power because they were the only ones voting. which put them at the top of society. which is why jim crow laws were passed. to put the blacks back in "their place".

;then you have a century of southern whites growing up seeing blacks as servants and menial laborers.kept in a lower station by the force of law. So the whites grew up thinking this was normal.

I know its more of a question for Video Game board but figured /his/ would answer this one better. Been wanting to get into the old HoI games. I played 4 and liked it but wanted to try the others.

I have HoI2, HoI3 and Darkest Hour but not sure which one is the "best" of them. I wanted to geta general opinion because I know these games take a while to learn.

What I liked about 4 was the ability to turn countries ideologies (i.e. USA into communisn). Is this possible in older titles? Or mods?

ITT : Anarcho-capitalism. Does it really make sense?

Orphan of political ideals, I’ve recently started approaching the anarcho-capitalist theories which seem to be so popular lately.

As a management and finance graduate, I have a good understanding of economics, but most universities, at least in Europe, still follow the more orthodox monetarist and Keynesian schools, rather the unorthodox Austrian school that inspires modern capitalism.

Some of the reasons are obvious. On which base can we pretend that a state of anarchy so similar to pre-historic and primitive societies can be successfully applied to a capitalist society where some public institutions are undeniably necessary, as well as some public properties? Would mankind ever been so great if the Romans didn’t organize with a strong central authority and provided all its provinces with roads, aqueducts, sanitation, tribunals and police?

I’m asking to ancap nerds on this board to clarify a few points:

1) How can an anarcho-capitalist country (or region) defend itself from external aggression of a statist country if its army was privatized? Imagine a situation like the URSS in the 20s when it had no friends: if it had no State, how could Ancapistan defend itself? Raising taxes for an army is against its principles

2) How can Ancapistan defend its borders? The usual answer is “through covenants” among land-owners. If this is the case, how can owners from very distant regions (say, US-Mexican border) organize? How can you limit free-riding? Can every inch of border land be realistically privatized and controlled by an individual or a corporation?

>[continued]

3) How can a judicial system be privatized? How can the police be privatized? Can they even exist if there is no State? Who are the judges and who promotes them as such? Which citizens is the police supposed to serve? Which criminals are the judges supposed to judge? Who pays for the judges and police salary? Who pays to maintain and manage prisons? If a community paying for these services isn’t it the same as saying that they are paying taxes?

4) It is easy to privatize highways and railways, but how can roads and streets within a city be built and maintained?

5) Isn’t in a community best interest to make sure that everyone has at least basic education (reading and writing, history and math) and thus be willing to provide it for free to the poor?

6) Who would be the judge and a referee in the switch from public to private property? On the D-day of ancap revolution, who’d be entitled to own, say, the land of a beach, of a public square, of a city park? Wouldn’t this automatically generate conflict?

7) Wouldn’t an anarcho-capitalist society quickly turn into an oligarchy in the hands of a few powerful corporations? Once all the capital has been amassed in the hands of a few, isn’t it easier at this point control any form of dissent, including fair market competition?

Finally, any specific readings you’d strongly recommend? It seems to me that some authors like Rothbard and Hoppe are struggling to justify certain conservative prejudices within their view of an anarcho-capitalist society.

They lost Cordoba and Baghdad and science/Math/Tech was taking over by bumkin clerics who were retarded. They never religion to do anything more than stupify the peasants, so once they were in-charge of intellectual pursuits they attributed everything to Allah and punished anyone who disagreed.

The mid-east has always been that way, even since before Islam. Babylonians were highly scientific, but at the same time unbelievably superstitious. Once you lose the intelligentsia, superstition is all that's left.

There is literally a book called "What went wrong?" about this topic.

Literally all people used to be superstitious before the age of enlightenment. Beeing superstitious is an inheritly human attribute, which comes from false pattern recognition

Western armament
>overengineered, complicated crap
>gets obsolete every 5 years so it needs to be constantly upgraded to work
>expensive
>breaks fast
>ends up in scraps fast
>virtually zero demand for it by foreign armies, low export except to allied countries who are obliged to buy this crap

Soviet armament
>durable, sturdy, simple, reliable
>never gets obsolete, works well even after 50 years
>requires only minor upgrades to run like new
>cheap
>extremely high demand, armies around the world compete for licence contracts
>performs so well in combat that it's still used in modern warfare with little or no drawbacks

What did the Soviets get so right that rest of the world got so wrong?

Bullshit. Third world armies and shite militias & terror groups use what they can get their hands on. That does not mean the shit they use never gets obsolete.

Also Western armaments also have high demand for licence contracts. It's only that you usually have to be an industrialized country to be able to produce such weapons.

Hell, that goes the same for Slavshit. You think African or Middle Eastern people manufacture Soviet stuff themselves? Its mostly Russia or China that ever does.
