I Have an 11 year old Black MacBook (Core 2 Duo) and trying to get Ubuntu 16 on it has been the biggest pain in the ass.
Apparently I need a physical DVD/CD, I can't get it to boot from a USB thumb drive and trying to get it working with rEFIt / rEFInd is challenging for me because I am currently drunk.
Would I be better off installing Windows 10?
Should I even fuck with this, or should I just buy a $400 lightweight PC?
The MacBook ran hot anyways, fans were loud as fuck.

First off break it down and clean the dust out for god's sake.
Burning a DVD isn't exactly rocket science. Stock Ubuntu will probably run like shit on it however. Look for something like Void or Debian or hell FreeBSD.

OP here. Posting from a T510.. I like it a lot but it has some battle wounds over the years and is too big to lug around for what I do now.
What Thinkpad should I buy? Maybe I'll just pony up and buy a new X Series with Windows 10 on it?
My T510 has served me well over the 7 years and unlike the MacBook it isn't an obsolete piece of shit. It's just heavy and has a few 'issues', but is perfectly usable at home.

if you are taking that from Windows Task Manager, then if it hits 99%, you are using all your cores, unless you have 100 cores
