Everytime I ask if someone can link me an archive or dump to educate newcomers to /g/ I get the "hurr durr check the sticky" shit. So let me try this again
Is there any gathered resource online where someone new to /g/ could educate themselves and/or avoid dumb questions in the future?
Sticky.
Sticky.
You stupid fuck.

Do people that study CS have the right to call themselves "scientists" or "engineers"? I talked to this one person with degrees in CS and Chem and they want to argue that they're a software engineer. Why the fuck is engineer so loosely used these days?
Dumb frog poster
>>60852881
>not an answer
CS People aren't software engineers. They're math people. They're not engineers or scientists. CS is a very academic subject.
There's a lot of people who think they're taking computer science degrees when they're not though.
Everyone is too busy discussing consumershit like GPUs, headphones, arguing over which fucking distro is better, arguing over systemd.
Here are some things I'm wondering why we never discuss since they are very tech-relevant and could probably help some of you NEET bastards get jobs.
* Kubernetes
* Start-up culture
* Continuous Integration (like Jenkins)
* Data structures/types (/dpt/ is shit at this before you mention)
* Docker
* New database tech like RocksDB, Redis etc
* Message queues
Until you start to have threads on these (and I'm not talking about one thread every 2 months), you shouldn't consider yourself a legit tech board.

Pp is asking me for the emails with my customers. I do erotic art so they will ban me. I need to fake the discussions I had with my clients. What chat service should I use? One that is fairly popular, would be nice if the date wasn't show below each message, like in Hangouts. I want the recreate the discussions with my clients
Use discord ya dingus

You're not allowed to get paid for erotic art on Paypal?

That's not the official build, that's LineageOS. Stop trying to justify that shit
>>60852700
Well, what *is* "flagship these days other than a marginally faster CPU wrapped in hype and propaganda?
There are so many things they could have done but all they deliver is the same stuff, again and again. I have an old Samsung Galaxy S3 and while the software is marginally better in later issues there is only an incremental software difference and zero compelling hardware progress.

How do I stop writing everything in Mousepad (default text editor in XFCE)? How do I get the goodies like jump to definition? What else should I want from IDE? What are ctags and silver searcher?
Already quit Emacs twice to BTFO with this one.

This is an experimental general Internet security thread for anyone willing to discuss, help newbies or learn more about Internet security in general.
>DNS
Who among you are using DNSSEC [1, 2] already? Why do you use it? What do you use it for? Have you considered TLSA (DANE [3]), SSHFP [4], OPENPGPKEY [5] resource records (RRs) yet?
>HTTP
Who among you running your own Web server? Do you secure your traffic with TLS and HTTP security headers? Do you use HSTS [6] enforce a secure connection? Do use HPKP [7] for certificate pinning? Do you use CSP [8] to enforce content restrictions?
Who among you running your own mail server (MTA)? Do you secure your traffic with (START)TLS? Do you use SPF [9] to restrict only authorised hosts to send mails? Do you use DKIM [10] to cryptographically verify message authenticity? Do you use DMARC [11] to set domain-level message handling policies?
Share your thoughts!
Newbies section:
There are numerous introductory videos about DNSSEC [12, 13], SPF [14], DKIM [15] and DMARC [16] to familiarise yourself more with. There are also numerous websites [17, 18, 19, 20] that can help you checking your server's security.

If you don't do anything illegal you shouldn't need encryption
For those of you underwhelmed with the depth of technical information, I can relate. But seeing as we're all limited to 2000 characters for each post I had to cut away a lot of details in order not to go past that limit. This is exactly what I feared when trying to merge the separate DNS and HTTP security threads in a general Internet security thread but a fellow anon suggested I should merge them anyway since these separate threads were already "extremely specific". So, let's just see how it works out for now...

Oneplus is a shitty brand.
But they are getting complaints because of the camera placement?
This world is so fucking retarded.
>>60852362
>But they are getting complaints because of the camera placement?
Yeah, apparently if you copy Apple with just one camera it's fine, but if you add a second then you're worse than Hitler.
OnePlus is also getting complaints because they decides to abandon the OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X after just a year. For a company that prides themselves in being the flagship changer and never settling they sure do settle, in shit update guarantees and copying shit designs. Plus, former fanboys of OnePlus are also fearing that OnePlus will also abandon the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T too early as well. Plus, this is a precedent for shit updates that even the next OnePlus 5 will have. They'll probably abandon it after just one update. Plus, even worse is that they'll make a bullshit middle cycle version after just six months probably calling it the OnePlus 5T. Fuck that shit. Plus, they're Chinese and the Chinese phone companies have tended to begun copying iPhone too much. Sure Apple has very good design but I do want some originality. Like, the only original and good thing that has come out of China and recent times is that oh so delectable White Rabbit Creamy Candy. I fucking hated that bullshit milk scandal with fucking melanine. Thank the Lord those shits got executed. I hate how they changed the term to Golden Rabbit. Argh!!! Anyways, OnePlus is totally ded.
I have 29GB of free space and I have nothing to fill them with.
Tips?

Is it just me or are the versions of kubuntu after 14 all completely shit?
Ive managed to install 15 with difficulty, same for 16, but ran it for a few months while it seemed to crash more and boot to stupid screen arrangements wit no hotkeys or alt-f2.
Installing 17 was impossible. First attempot it locked up on partition manager screen. Second attempt it locked up as soon as i clicked the 'install kubuntu' livedesktop icon.
Meanwhile 14.10 has been just fine on my (other, main, only slightly newer machine) intel NUC the whole time...
WTF?
Anything past 14.04 eventually becomes too much of a nuisance stability-wise to use for me
I've been using Xubuntu 14.04 for about a year now and I don't plan to """"upgrade"""" any time soon
>>60852359
what happened? they were doing great things, and now it seems like shits on fire and pointed at the ground.
Is it just us? Surely there would be a lot of noise from the greater community if it started to get broken... Is there new people in control or something?
I'm a bit of a hermit, so I might not hear about it anyway, but iv'e seen no mention of gaggles of neckbeards bereavement-wailing about its decline.... or have they all gone full retard and now use ubuntu? (which still seems to have a network and cli only installer, so maybe all is not lost)
....but plasma?......FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFuckoffcunt
Ubuntu flavours are quite bloated, the best option is to get ubuntu server/minimal and from there install whatever de or wm you want.
My mom keeps calling me to ask stupid questions about excel like "how do I select all columns without the second one?"
Do any of you have similar parents and know a set YouTube tutorials for excel? I'm sick of playing tech support.

You are wasting your time. Tech retards can be taught basic excel 1000 times and will still ask you every single time

Accountant here... usually when people ask me dumb shit about Excel I will show them at full speed or slowed down slightly, if they can't grasp it that's their problem.
If I care about them or if I'm getting paid for it I will solve the problem by making it into an idiot proof template.
I think being proficient in Excel is a good intelligence-test. I've met several people in my career who have been using Excel for decades who can't grasp some of the most basic features.
If you love your mother, OP, make her templates with lots of notes, and maybe data validation and protection so she can't fuck it up. Color highlights and check figures are your friend.
What is she using Excel for, anyways?
