And of course saying this will piss off a lot of people but this cover is pretty indicative of how Cho simply does not get Wonder Woman at all.

"SEEK PEACE, PREPARE FOR WAR", and a fucking skull at her feet.

Again, absolutely excellent artwork, but it carries on the Kingdom Come character.

She's still very long aged, making her practically immortal in comparison to humans, thus making her practically inhuman.

And all so her and Superman can be shown as a quasi-immortal couple able to witness the human evolution and serve as callbacks to Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van, Superman's mother.

You know, I don't wanna shit on Azzfags, because if you love Azz's run, fine, it's well-written. If you don't like previous runs, fine, because the character isn't for everyone. And if you hate Rucka's run, old one or new one, fine, because that's your opinion.

But people who are upset at Rebirth for "shitting" on Azz's run are fucking hypocrites. That's just a bullshit thing to say.

>>92320511
I'm upset because this book is BOOOORING as hell. I liked Superbro, but him being erased/fused didn't bother me because I liked the story and new Superman comic.

This is just so goddamn boring. It's like Rucka is trying his hardest to make the most dull book ever. It doesn't even have pretty art to look at.

At this point, I welcome anyone (even Lobdell or Snyder or Johns or Tynion) to jump on this book
>>
>>92320631
>It doesn't even have pretty art to look at
Now those are the real lies!
>>
>>92320562
I think the difference is that Wondy in New 52 had a pretty solid first run that started it all off, her old canon pre Flashpoint is besides it and it is, still, untouched and it can never be touched again becase it's been so long.

With Rucka, however, he flat out said that what kickstarted this new run, her 36 issue origin to the New 52 was a lie and this is the truth.

I don't care either way though, if it's beneficial to the story you can overlook things.
>>
>>92320570

>He literally called the shit "the lies" though, as if he is some sort of white knight savior of Diana.

And Azz revealed that Diana's clay origin was a lie told by Queen Hippolyta, that Queen Hippolyta had a secret and forbidden affair with Zeus that no one knew about not even the other amazons or gods, that the amazons weren't nice like Diana believed and that they were in fact shitty people that killed innocent man and males babies.

So how can you be okay with Azz revealing everything you knew about Diana origin and her people was a lie, but can't be okay when Rucka does the same?

Like I said, like or hate the run, that's your opinion and is totally valid and fair. And Rucka is definitely an asshole, without question.

What I hate is the indignation over it restoring Wonder Woman's original backstory or saying it shits on Azz's run when Azz went self-admittedly out of his way to shit on Wonder Woman's entire history.

It's like if they made Earth One Superman his new canon origin.

How can you be okay with one writer revealing everything you knew about a character is a lie and turning things over their heads, but can't do the same when another writers does just the same, but this time revealing everything you knew about what was revealed before was a lie and returning things to how they used to be?

And well, that's Rebirth as well, though. It changed things just as New 52 did.

And this part right here actually seems to fit with the New 52 Amazons instead of the classic ones, weirdly.

With immortal Amazons Hippolyta was the only queen.

But this is in the desert, so maybe it's the Bana-Mighdall ones?

You argument makes no fucking sense.

Wondy New 52/DCYou runs are also untouched, the same way Wondy Pre-Flashpoint runs were untouched.

Azz flat out kick-started his New 52 run revealing what readers were knew and were accustomed with in regards to WW origin and background were a lie kept by the amazons, the same way Rucka kick-started his Rebirth run revealing what readers knew and were accustomed with in regards to WW New 52 origin and background were a lie made by some enemy.

But you can excuse one while not excusing the other. The reason? You're a fan of the former. Nothing wrong with that, but come on. Be fucking honest instead of creating stupid arguments to justify your hurt feelings.

I'm fine with any Elseworlds that changes the story of a character as long as it improves the story, example given being Red Son and Mastermen, it's not a regular Superman story but hey, something good came out of it and so I don't care, plus, those Supermen are different from the New 52 Superman who was at some point distinct from Pre-Flashpoint Superman.

They're all different, and in the same way I see Wonder Woman from New 52 different from the one before the Flashpoint so I don't mind any difference in stories. For me if you're talking about Pérez's Wondy she's made of clay, I wouldn't jump and say BUT 30 YEARS AFTER PEREZ'S RUN IT WAS REVEALED SHE WAS DAUGHTER OF ZEUS. Because they're different.

And Rebirth didn't really change anything though.

It did. It revealed that New 52 was a fabrication created by an unseen enemy that has been fucking with time-space to make everything horrible.

So it basically gave a blanket check to explain any changes done to Wonder Woman's past. New 52 canon now is something bad that happened because an enemy changed things and now characters are learning their true pasts.

And that's the end.

Thanks for reading, as always, folks!

Some people don't like this arc so let me know what y'all think.

Note: bottom left picture is clearly Sensation Comics #1, I think top right might be first issue of New 52.

I like it. Mainly because I love Steve and this had so much fanservice, and I think did a pretty good job at setting up how he works as a love interest.

I don't mind raceswapping, though I will admit Morrison didn't do much with slavery symbolism (speaking as a black dude, I would kill to have Wonder Woman tie me up).

With Etta it's not that she's black that I mind, it's that she's not the comic relief that I'd assume she would be. It's like reading a Superman comic and seeing Jimmy Olsen be a bad-ass or something.
>>
>>92322955
>It's like reading a Superman comic and seeing Jimmy Olsen be a bad-ass or something.

You mean business as usual then?
>>
>>92322818
Fantastic read.
>>
>>92321833
>>92321867

The problem is that Steve doesn't seem that integral to the Wonder Woman plots outside of being the catalyst for her to come to man's world.

Which has nothing to do with the character, but everything to do with the writers. You just need that good run that will make Steve mesh well with everything else.
>>
>>92323246
Agreed.
>>
>>92323246
Part of that I think is because Perez basically relegated him to a tertiary character which remained his position until the New 52.

Marston is the only person to make him an interesting character at all, IMO. He works best as a subversion of macho cliches. But a lot of people don't know how to make that work in the modern day.

I felt Rucka was making him a central character in the Cheetah arc, but then halfway through he just kind of drops out.
>>
>>92323879

I feel that ever since New 52 writers portray Steve Trevor as poor man's version of other characters.

In Geoff Johns' hands he was a poor man's version of Snapper Carr and Rick Flagg.

In Rucka's hands he seems to be like a lighter Batman. I at least got that impression in arc where Doctor Poison first showed up. His characterization there reminded me a lot of Jimenez' take of Batman.

Here hoping the movie can established a more unique and solidified interpretation of Steve Trevor.
>>
>>92324047
I say this all the time but Marston wanted Trevor to literally be a Captain America analogue, who was like the hottest selling male character at the time.

He's supposed to represent to young boys that you can be a macho man who punches Nazis in the dick and still be rescued by a woman or submit to their maternal protection.

But then Captain America was the model for THOUSANDS of other macho hero characters over the decades, so by trying to play Trevor straight, he comes off very generic. And in the modern day it's not that big a deal for a man to cry or to be saved by a woman. And the latter often comes off as GRRL POWER rather than promoting an ideal of men.

So honestly even I don't know quite what I'd do with Steve. But in the past few weeks I've been thinking that I wouldn't make them necessarily OTP, but have Diana have multiple love interests over time, since she's always represented "alternative lifestyle" and counter-culture, as Morrison put it.

Not saying she should cuck Steve or get in threeways or anything, just be a bit more free in her love life. That's something that could separate her from Superman, who has a stable romance, and Batman, who has nothing but shitty non-relationships.

Damn Tex, are you almost done?

Thank you for this storytime, anon. My first time reading a Wonder Woman comic and I'm having a major blast. I don't understand any of the conversations. I'm guessing this is the "ruckafag" "run"? I'm legitimately happy reading this page, haha.

Steve and Diana are so pure... And gorgeous! Was Steve always like this in past iterations? I'm surprised he never found a girl till now
>>
>>92321531
Oh my god man, what the fuck is happening? Is this an American high school/college campus??
>>
>>92321699
I appreciate Steve's existence in the DCU animated movies! But to be fair, those movies are probably way less casual than the Justice League Unlimited
>>
>>92322643
I didn't want to comment about Steven of fear of sounding like the town slut of /co/

But THIS!

There's a bunch of other curiosities and not-quite-best-of stories I wanna run, like the space pirate arc, a sample of Byrne's run so folks can see why I hate it, Godwar which is mediocre but interesting, Odyssey which is a clusterfuck, and some more.

I've had more fun talking about Wonder Woman with people in these threads than I've had on /co/ in years so I'll continue up to and past the movie release.

STEVE IS A SLUT! A SLUT!
>>

Huh. That Venus Wonder Woman looks a little weird. Something wrong with the boobs

What if Steve works in a private security company that gets hired by hotshots all over the world, and there could raise Diana's eyebrows if he unawaring gets deployed security guarding a ruthless criminal? And sometimes helping out if he's nearby or something. Or saved or whatever. Not sure if that still sounds generic

I mean, is it really NOT MUH if Azz's run itself was really disrespectful? Moreso in interviews than in the book itself, I suppose.

This scene has like EVERY decent Wondie writer, except I think Jimenez, sadly.

Also Diana not being a flacid cunt for flacid cunts sake.

Diana confirmed for liking casual fun with girls? Because her domming female heroes is my friends fetish. Totally not mine.
>>
>>92319616

So, in Rebirth ol' Wondy isn't ageless or immortal? It seems to change with the seasons. Some settings she is unchanged by the years after adulthood, and others she ages normally, and others still simply slower. DCEU seems to be going with the idea of her not aging at all; I assume they will use the Ares-is-her-father angle for that.

>>92319670

It's like none of the people involved in writing Wondy have ever the pure passive (and some times outright) aggression that is women, especially if there is something they want, or might want, or if they feel someone might have thought something they don't like within the earths atmosphere.
>>
>>92354329
All official canons had her immortal, but lost her immortality when she left the island.

The differences are in how long she's already been alive. Post-Crisis she's 22 when she left the island. In the movie she's thousands of years old. Rucka mentioned in an interview that Diana is thousands of years old, as well, but there's no in-story statement of her age.

But it's definitely still canon that she loses her immortality when she leaves the island. And something DC was pushing early in the New 52 was that Diana was 18 when she left the island, I don't know if that's still true.
>>
>>92322332

I know it's popular to hate the DCEU, but I can't wait to see CGI Ares and Diana fight in live action. Especially after how she fought Doomsday. It should be as filled with skill and martial might as pure super powers.
>>
>>92322485

The fact that Diana wasn't then bent over the nearest wrecked car breaks my suspension of disbelief. Even Ares must want to tap that, and she just gave him an open ticket.
>>
>>92357574

She's only immortal still after leaving the island in Elseworlds for obvious reasons.
>>
>>92359019
Ares is the patron god of Sparta so he's probably more interested in dudes :^)
>>
>>92359591
Probably much much much younger dudes :(
That's probably the only flaw about Spartan society, everything else is freaking awesome
>>
>>92318615
I'll need to read this for the upcoming movie?
>>
Thanks again Texas great stuff.
I like this Rebirth issues but my only thing is her outfit and look. It's clear they're making her reflect the WW Movie look and I hate that. Mainly because I don't care for the WW Movie Gal Gadot look and just want comic book WW other than that I like it
>>
HEY Texas or can anyone else help, I got into an argument with a friend about Wonder Woman. I said WW isn't a Demi-god she is just Athenas champion with favor of the gods and my friend so No she is a Demi-god.
So is WW or is she not, a Demi-god?
>>
>>92363350
In Azz's run and DCAU she is in fact, the daughter of a Hippolyta and a God, Ares or Hades.

In pretty much every other Wonder Woman piece of work, she isn't. Also in a good portion of these works, her dad is a black woman, not a god.
>>
>>92363350
Only in the New 52 is she a demigod, daughter of Zeus. Apparently this is gonna be in the movie as well.

But prior to 2011 she was formed from clay, and blessed with powers by the gods Aphrodite, Hera, Artemis, Athena, Demeter, Hestia and Hermes. There's a possibility this might be restored by Rebirth.
>>
>>92364140

She basically has to be a demigod in the DCEU, just to be alive as of BvS and utterly unchanged. I wouldn't be surprised if Ares is actually her papa in the movie, as it would fit the overall tone well.
>>
>>92364863
Nah, the Amazons are all immortal. Usually she loses that when she leaves the island but it looks like it's just going to be a permanent power in the movie. Her passive ability, if you will.

kk cool thanks. Yeah he likes to argue just to argue I fucking hate it. I have read comics my whole life and he says this shit.
"A person can get the blessings from a god and that makes them a Demigod"
the fuck
>>
>>92364968

The amazons aren't truly immortal, though, they're left unchanged because of the island's magic. Am i right or wrong about this?
>>
>>92363621

Wonder Woman wasn't a demigod in DCAU. Hades only helped Hippolyta model Diana's clay form Ghost style. Or so he claimed.
>>
>>92322750
I really, really like this Wonder Woman
>>
>>92367227

Me too. She feels like a more innocent Post-Crisis and/or DCAU Diana, and they are my favorite renditions. (Fuck Nu52 Wonder Woman, with Doomsdays spiked cock.)

This storytime has inspired me to have this volume on my DC shelf. I've generally collected only Pre-Flashpoint stuff, so this will be the first and only Rebirth book. That alone tells how impressed I was with it. Who says storytimes are stealing. Thanks Texas Anon.

>>92367958
Titans changed her origin, but then Titans Annual just changed it back to the weird DCYou one where she's like a hate golem or some shit, which a lot of people are confused by because why go to the trouble of making a new simpler origin that fits in with Titans' changed continuity just to immediately retcon it again?
>>
>>92372527
That's very bizarre. Maybe it means they planning to use the clay origin for Diana but used golem for Donna so that the trapped-in-labyrinth issue wouldn't be completely off due to this retcon
