What do I do with lentils? I'm looking for a lowish calorie side of some kind that I can work in daily. I get nearly no fiber regularly and butt cancer has a history with my family. Is there some sort of barebones but decent tasting soup I can make? Can they be eaten by themselves? Is there a way of cooking them so they taste good? I did so and I liked the taste more than garbonzo beans but I'd like some better options.
It depends on the lentils. In my opinion the best lentils are the french ones, Lentilles du Puy. I like to do them in a salad: prepare your dressing and when the lentils are ready add them straight away so that the lentils absorb all the dressing. Then you can add tomatoes and tuna. Otherwise cook them and add an onion studded with about 4 or 5 cloves to the water and eat them with sausages. Depending on the sausage you can add them to the same water. But the masters of lentil cooking have to be the Indians. Any decent Indian cook book will have loads of recipes for lentils.
